The front office staff were so sweet to us, I really thought we were going to be in good hands. It was my first emergency so after waiting an hour we got back to a room where his vitals were taken. We sat there for 5 hours without being seen!! Without asking if our animal needed food or water. I had asked several times what the delay was and they simply told me my animal wasn’t critical enough to be seen yet. At that point we left and went to a different ER where they got him in quickly and his condition was addressed but did get worse because of the time we wasted. I’m so disappointed in the lack of care they showed towards us.

It’s hard for me to do anything right now after losing my beautiful blue eyed Lily but I have to write this review. On the night of 10/23/2024, my husband was tucking Lily (hairless Sphinx feline), and her sister into bed when he noticed that Lily was breathing really hard using accessory muscles. Alarmed, I Googled the nearest Emergency Vet and this place came up with the most number of stars on Google Review and being relatively new to Fresno, we had not established regular Vet care yet. We rushed her to the hospital around 11pm and they roomed us really fast. Next, Alex the Vet Tech came in to weigh and get vital signs from Lily. Next Dr. Tolman came in to assess Lily then it happened so fast it’s kind of a blur. All I know is that I felt very comfortable with both Alex and Dr. Tolman and felt their compassion. Lily was fine and playing several hours ago and now this. Knowing that getting all of the labs, radiology and the specialty film read will take several hours, they promised that they would call as quickly as they know something, so being exhausted and thinking all will be fine we went home while the treatment started. We said see-you later to Lily and went home. As promised, Dr. Tolman called me about an hour after getting home and she broke the bad news. It was confirmed that my Lily was in heart failure and she gave me several options. I chose to have Lily treated and kept her a full-code. Dr. Tolman explained the treatments to me and I requested that she move forward. The plan was to try and off-load the fluids, so that Lily can breathe better and treat the failing heart and stay over night and once stabilized, I could take her home the next day. Dr. Tolman promised that she will call me if Lily has any changes. About 4am my phone rang and I already knew and started to cry. Dr. Tolman explained that Lily was declining and we need to make some decisions. My first question was if Lily is suffering and Dr. Tolman said she is fighting to breathe and we need to consider letting her go. By this time I was frantic and more frantic I became the calmer Dr. Tolman became trying to soothe the situation. Next, I asked if there was any way to turn this around and she point-blank said, “no.” As a Registered Nurse with a background in Trauma Intensive Care, this is where Dr. Tolman really earned my respect. There were no umm or hesitation in her words which told me that making Lily comfortable was her priority. I really appreciated that as I too did not want my precious Lily to suffer. Alex got on the phone to confirm and she was very sorry that we were going through this and she was authentic. These people deserve more than 5-stars and those that are complaining because of wait times, have you been in a human ED lately? This is the cost of healthcare. I would absolutely recommend this Emergency Vet Hospital and matter of fact, I added their location and number on my Emergency list stuck onto my refrigerator for my cat nanny in case there is ever a need while we are traveling. I hope we won’t need them anytime soon but if you’re looking for a truly good ED for your babies I would recommend this one. They also arranged for a private cremation and I will be picking up Lily’s ashes as soon as they call me. They also kept the carrier and the blankets so that I can pick them up. When I picked up the carrier, I noticed that Lily’s blankets were washed, thank you. You made one of the most difficult day of my life endurable.
Key points: Compassion, Knowledge, Professionalism, true love for our furry or not furry friends.

I wouldnt recommend this place their charges are outrageous they wanted $3000.00 to run test on my dog and never physically examined him this is not including treatment which on the high end could be another $10000.00 to be fair, everyone there were nice but they force you to put a price on your pets life what are you willing to pay to save your pets life? $1000? $5000? $10000? you are in an emergency situation time is crucial but these ridiculous charges are put in front of you very stressful this is my truth my experience im writing this to hopefully help someone not to go through what i went through there are choices do your homework find places that are reasonable that can perform emergency services when you need them before going to a place thats transactional 1st and care 2nd and leave you with no options backed into a corner to make a tough decision

My dog, Joey, spent 2 nights 9/14 & 9/15, as an inpatient in the hospital under the care of Dr. Randy Castanza and Dr. Corbin Langholf. The care Joey received was exemplary and Joey has fully recovered from a very serious condition. I also want to recognize the excellent care provided by the Vet Techs, Olivia and Alexis. They treated him as if he was their own pet. To provide the care they do requires extensive triage and the public doesn’t seem to understand that the sickest dogs/cats go in first so there will be a wait just like in an ER for humans. Plan on waiting but know when your pet is seen by the technician and veterinarian, your pet is their priority. Thank you Dr. Randy and Dr. Corbin for saving my Joey.

Very courteous and helpful staff. After speaking with Nicole (receptionist?) I felt comfortable going home Sunday night and waiting until Monday to have our fur baby be seen by our local veterinarian. Thank you FVS&EC

Nothing wrong with the place. They try their best. I just feel that fees amd charges are excessive. A fee for taking blood pressure?, AND an additional free for EACH injection is a bit much [No im not talking about the med] we are talking the act of giving the injection $62.00 EACH ( in my mind one fee would suffice, you already prepped the site for the first shot and could have everything with you for the others... its litterally seconds )

I didn’t even want to give one star. I have never written a review for anything in my life but this was necessary. I took my cat in for a skin infection that was spreading. They told me at the front desk it would take over an hour to see someone which is understandable considering it was Sunday. However 3 hours to even get a room is deplorable. I understand my cat may not be a high priority but to not even give updates about the wait or even see how the pet is seems ridiculous considering there were worse pets who hadn’t been checked on either. At least warn us it can be a 4-5 hour wait. When we finally got a room my cat had been stuck in her carrier for over 3 hours and she had an accident. I asked if I can get some wipes to clean her fur but they said they can’t because of POLICY! what?! You can’t even clean her up? Or give me something to clean her? The best you can do is some dry paper towels. They told me to get someone if she got some poo on the floor and that’s something they can deal with…She’s just supposed to sit in her poo for another hour that you said she might have to wait to even be seen? Disgusting disregard for animals. I finally had enough and wasn’t going to make my cat who was already suffering sit in her feces for another what could be 2 hours and some. When I had left the staff seemed more interested in their own conversations them patients.
Again no compassion from staff or sympathy is disgusting.
If you don’t have to go save yourself some time and heart ache.

We’ve had to take one of our dogs to Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center twice now and I’m so thankful for this place! Once for parvo and again for an allergic reaction causing terrible swelling in my dog’s face. The staff were kind, caring and got us in and out as quickly as they could. The receptionists, the techs and doctors were all so helpful. They were so good with our dog, they took time to explain the medical issues we were facing with her, listened to our concerns and gave advice. We were given multiple options outlining all costs before they proceeded, they were very transparent the entire time. I feel their prices are very reasonable for emergency vet services. I highly recommend Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center.

the staff here are skilled, compassionate, and so so kind. thank you to Alexis and the rest of the med staff, they held my hand through a terrible experience. when I expressed financial anxieties, they walked me through all my options clearly and educated me about different avenues like pet credit. when time came they offered my family and I so much grace and dignity as we cried our eyes out for my baby girl. I am grateful for the keepsakes as well, I wish this place all the success

My GSD began experiencing signs of bloat late on a sunday night. I was so panicked; we live in Chowchilla and had no idea if he would make it on the drive to Fresno… I’m so grateful for the staff here. They were able to get him in for surgery and have saved his life. It truly felt like they recognized him as a part of our family and treated him as such. Their communication throughout the whole process was amazing and I feel as though I can contact them at any time of day; they will always be there to address my questions/concerns. Thank you for all you do and for saving my baby Drogo!!! Even though he’s a difficult patient; you went above and beyond!!!

Due to some ridiculous policy, a poor dog that was in desperate need of care was refused treatment! Don't call yourself an Emergency Vet Hospital if you can't provide service to an animal that needs emergency care.

So glad we found this place. Our senior dog took a turn for the worst last night. We knew it was time for her to cross the rainbow bridge. We drove from Merced to Fresno as our options were limited here. The staff was warm and caring with us and cared for our good girl through her final moments. We will keep this location as our primary alternative option if our vet is unavailable or after hours.

I went in because my male dog was peeing blood and I have to say during my time of stress and anxiety, the staff were super friendly and guided me through a breakdown of the costs of what the procedures my dog needed. When my dog had his accidents the staff were super friendly and cleaned up the mess he made. The nurses and the doctor actually came out and informed me on how my dog was doing and what they wanted to test for and rule out what was going on. We were able to go home with medication and so far my dog is doing a lot better. They also have a tv, a charging station for your phone, snacks and drinks while you’re there. Yes it’s gonna be a wait but understand that the staff are doing all they can to keep your fur baby good. Thank you guys so much! Definitely will come back here if anything were to happen to any of my dogs.

Went in because my dog was peeing blood. The staff were super friendly and helpful. When my dog had accidents in there they would clean up his mess. They have snacks and drinks as you wait while your pet is taken to the back for testing. They also have phone chargers as well. They do get busy but they are doing their best. The nurse and doctor both would come out and inform me on what they were doing to my dog and how he was doing. They took very good care of him and he is currently doing well with the medications they gave him. I highly recommend this place for your fur baby! Would definitely come here again but I don't want to (if you know what I mean).

This place is disgusting and horrible. They care about profits more than animals. My dog was hit by a car and was bleeding really badly from his mouth, he split his tongue, cracked his lower mouth, and tore the stub on the back of his wrist. I drove him to the nearest ER on google and this happened to be it. Ran into the ER with him in my arms and the very sweet nurse Vanessa (the only person who really even cared throughout this whole ordeal) took him from me and ran him to the back. They then put us in a "room" which was a makeshift room that was so hot I was literally sweating sitting there. I had to ask to just wait in the lobby. Anyways the doctor comes out and I'm covered in blood stressed out, my son is crying, and the first thing she says is "so are we putting him down". I was like UH NO. Then she goes on and on telling me he's not going to be able to eat and that I need to pay $3000. I said I don't have anywhere near that. I said can you please just make sure he's not gonna bleed out and I will take him home and see if he heals on his own. Anyways she tried taking advantage of me charging me $3k because I brought him home after giving them $250 for antibiotics and pain meds and he is healing up just fine and can eat JUST FINE. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS JUST MONEY. Not to mention they didn't even notice his torn hanging stub on his wrist until we mentioned it to them.
