This place is truly off the radar. I've lived in Oroville for over 20 years and stopped here only once YEARS ago, and don't remember it being this cool! This place is a bit difficult to visit as it's only open on weekends for a few hours during the summer. This time our visit was completely unplanned and we happened to arrive during one of their "Family Fun Days". They had donkeys and friendly docents in period costumes roaming the grounds and some of the buildings had music playing. I don't know if it's always this festive! I don't recall visiting the museum or hotel on our previous trip. For its small size, this place has a lot to offer, and the most unbelievable part is that it's FREE! I can't believe such a place exists just less than a half hour from Oroville. Very underrated piece of California Gold Rush history, right here in Butte County. If you happened to be traveling along the 162 on a summer weekend, it's definitely worth the detour to visit this place, as it's not as popular as other Gold Rush towns, but very interesting.

I was there to celebrate the life of a dear friend who recently passed. The facilities were great, especially for an event requiring a full kitchen. Tables and chairs were available on site, and there's a nice, flat concrete area adjacent which could host indoor/outdoor activities.

Come one, come all to the Museum's Hometown Christmas Event, Saturday November 27 from 11am to 7pm, 2022, held in the Gold Trader Flat Pioneer Village. Perfect holiday event for the family. Vendors, Victorian Tea room, Father Christmas, elves, donkeys and lambs, Hot chocolate and spiced cider, musicians and carolers roam the decorated mountian village in the pines. An event not to be missed!

Way back in the woods, along a meandering shady drive, you'll find the most fascinating museum. Housed in an old school building are displays of photos, items and stories pertaining to the Yuba Sutter area. Logging machines , old rifles, indian artifacts and more. Then outside you walk into the past. Buildings resembling an old Gold Rush town beckon.Open on Saturday and Sunday from June 1 to August 31. Every third sunday is an Ice Cream social.Be sure to check out the book store and the Gift shop!
