I want this to be a 5 star review, it was an amazing ice-cream place for 10+ years, but about 3-6 months ago when they changed management the ice-cream lost some of its flavor and it tastes icy now (like freezer burnt). At first I thought this was just a mistake but after trying it multiple more times I concluded that their ice cream has definitely gotten worse, and that is why it is 3 star ice-cream now. I hope this isn't a permanent change! Sure, there are still lines of people out the door at times, but I'll bet they are no longer locals.

I heard that the place gets crowded, but we lucked out after lunchtime when there was no line at all. It is small and there aren't much chairs to sit. They don't accept cards and the selections are limited. The two young women working the counter weren't nice but weren't mean either. I got 2 scoops but my friend got 1 scoop of the salted caramel. It was okay but melted really fast on a day that had overcast and wasn't hot at all.

We stopped here to get ice cream the other day, and we're very glad we did. The flavors were really excellent, especially the salted caramel, which I think may have only been a temporary flavor. (My girlfriend remarked that it was one of the best ice cream flavors she had ever had.) The prices were quite low, we thought, and the servings very large: A double in a waffle cup was definitely more ice cream than I needed, but I'm not complaining. There are some slight disadvantages of this shop. For example, they won't do normal cups for a single or double scoop, only for a pint or quart, and so you either have to get a waffle cup, which I don't really value, or a metal cup, which means you can't leave. Also, they don't have compostable spoons or anything like that, only offering metal ones, which again means if you're eating from a bowl and don't have your own spoon, you need to stay put. This wasn't the worst thing in the world, because the shop is on a nice town strip with some benches outside, but in a rush it is a bit less convenient than I would like. Also, the store doesn't offer samples, and so you don't really get to try your flavor in advance, but thankfully all the flavors we tried were pretty good. The storefront is also pretty small, and so I can imagine it getting quite busy if a bunch of people go at once, although that wasn't the case for us. All in all, this was a very good ice cream shop, and we definitely recommend it to other people. Try the salted caramel if you can!

My friend introduced Fairfax Scoop to me and they have some of the best ice cream I have had. Their flavor options are amazing. I had the vanilla honey lavender and lemon poppy seed. I loved both. I can't wait to try more flavors!

One of Fairfax’s most iconic spots for decades, always a line out of the door on warm summer nights and with good reason. Great ice cream selection and definitely get it in a waffle cone or bowl

Definetly a local little ice cream shop. Loved that they have specific flavors to choose from. Vanilla Honey Lavender and Grasshopper were amazing!!

Just the very best! There's no ice cream--and no ice cream shop--like the Scoop.

Excellent ice cream, made from sustainably made cream. Prices pretty good for Marin.

A boutique ice cream shop with a great mix of flavor options (black sesame, honey lavender) and classics (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry). I love their zero waste target and the commitment to locally sourced and fairly sourced ingredients. The prices are not as high as at other boutique ice cream shops, and the quality and care is high. Because of the narrow nature of the shop, indoor seating is more notional than available, and the line always seems long. Stick with it; it goes faster than you think and it's worth it. Cash or personal check only. Benches outside.

Very busy Not a lot of selections No real place to sit and eat Decent but not outstanding ice cream, which had a bit of an icy consistency to it instead of being creamy Efficient but not very friendly service

Best ice cream in the world. I would sell my soul for a pint of vanilla honey lavender, but I don't have to because it's affordable.
