Bad business!! Rude/mean guy!! YELLED at me!! Borderline fraud!! Used to take our cars here for smog. Never had any problems. They always did one re-test for free, like most places. Took my car in after getting it fixed to pass smog, and it failed. He showed me the code and why it didn't pass. I told him that's exactly what we had fixed a week ago. My mechanic told me to drive it 50 to100 miles to see if the check engine light comes back on. It I did that, so I was surprised it didn't pass. This guy told me to drive it 250 miles or 15 cycles of turning it on and off. Also told me now they charge $25 for re-test. (Not really happy about that bc other places don't charge for retest, but whatever). So I do what he tells me and I send my husband in to re-test. He calls me and says he's coming back home that they can't do the smog test Because they have to be able to turn the car off and on during testing. My car has a really weird Ignition and for some reason people have a hard time starting it and stopping it.So now I have to go and take the car in myself. I bring my husband with me. I asked the guy Is this true? Do you have to be able to turn the car off and on during testing? He says yes you cannot get an accurate read. I repeated myself back to him so I could make sure that he knew what he was saying to me. So then I tell him interesting because when I got my car smogged first by the female who worked there, she didn't turn my car off and on. I told her of the issue I had and I left the car running for her while She did the test. So if the information he is telling me is correct that would mean that the first test was not an accurate read. As I'm starting to explain this to him he starts back pedaling and saying that's not what he said. I am calm and telling him "no, you are incorrect. You are now changing your story because I caught you in a lie." Then he starts yelling at me and telling me I'm "trying to close his shop down" (not what I was trying to do) and he doesn't have to help me and he is not going to work on my car. My husband is right there and he's saying "yeah dude you told me this and now you're changing your story." Like really you are gonna yell at a female who is there with her child because you were trying to rip me off and I was smart enough to catch you???? I took down his posted Information to report him to the Better Business Bureau and the Bureau of Automobile repair. I told him he did bad business and should learn how to speak to a female. Try that somewhere else and my husband will shut you up real fast. Lastly, The customer who was right before us having the same service.I was listening to their conversation and he have the same issue that we did, so this is not a one time thing And after looking at the reviews on yelp looks like other people have the same experience.

First, the employees at Mak's seem like nice people - friendly and service minded. That said, I clipped out a coupon that showed the price for a smog test to be $37.75 + $8.25 for the Star certificate. This is pretty much what I paid two years ago at the same place. When I arrived today, the price quickly rose to $61 - the extra $15 for them being a "Star Test Station." When I asked why the extra fee wasn't listed on the coupon, I was told that this was the owner's coupon. I left without getting my car checked out. It seems less than honest to advertize a price that isn't honored.

Horrible place! Total rip off. Charging more than twice what other companies do for a smog. Does lot do good service either.

I came here twice hoping to get a smog check. The first time although it was still open the man working the counter said the mechanic went home early. I just tried again around 2 pm on a Tuesday. I drove up and the mechanic said he was eating his lunch and come back in about a half an hour. So I decided to go elsewhere as this was the convenient time for me. No other cars were in the racks.

Don't use this location for U-Haul! I went to pick up my U-Haul on a Sunday and the lock for the cargo area was put on backwards so I could not use the combination given to open it and get my key to the truck. Of course they are closed, so I had to be sent to a different U-Haul location. Thanks a lot for delaying my move.

Rip off company! Don't take your car here to smog; they will charge you multiple times when other companies will re-test for free. This is a scam company.

They will cheat you. We rented a uhaul drove it six miles, filled it up with 3 gallons of gas, ans they wanted to charge us a $48 gas fee. Dont go here, unless you want unfair prices, and to get gouged. *******************

My grandpa and parents have always come here to get their car smog checked. It's the easiest place to just walk in without an appointment. Never have had a problem or issue, it's a good place to go if you need to pop in.

I’ve gone here for years and years with my vehicles and this time I had a coupon and he tells me the coupons are no good for my car because I drive a Mercedes. So I agree to pay the full price no problem my car did not pass smog because I had some work done on it and I had to drive it to reset the computer and now you want to give me the coupon price so I cannot bring it back to retest for free. all because I am a woman and he thought I could take it vantage of me. Well you just lost a customer and anybody and everybody I know who’s a woman I will tell him don’t go there. I never post bad reviews but this was above and beyond.Service: Smog certification

Made an appointment on Website for 9:30 which was confirmed. Arrived 9:28 as he was bring a car in to service. Waited in office. Eighteen minutes later he brought in another car to be serviced. Left the first owner waiting at the counter for ten minutes before he cash him out. I didn't even receive a glance of acknowledgment and after 30 minutes I left.
