I took my car to West Automotive in Escondido recently. I had two concerns about the car; blue smoke coming from the exhaust and a sloshing sound coming from under the dash. A diagnostic fee would be charged to determine what the problems were. Two days later I was notified that the initial test regarding the smoke came back negative and further testing would be needed with an additional diagnostic charge. I asked about the slushy water noise under the dash and they said that would be separate with an additional diagnostic charge. I was under the impression that the original diagnostic charge would cover the two problems I expressed at the beginning.I wish they made it clear that there were going to be two separate charges for the two problems and the amount they charged on the first day covered one problem only.

I’m new to the area. I called to schedule an appointment. They had many options available to bring my car in. Car was serviced and I had the option to accept or decline other items, categorized as urgent or important to service. Good communication, customer service and smooth checkout.

I do not recommend this mechanic. I brought my car in on a tow truck on Oct. 13th for mechanical failure, my car was jerking on the road and had a horrible metal on metal grinding noise. I recieved a call on Oct 16th stating 3.7k was recommended in repairs. Myself and everyone I spoke to suggested that the symptoms sounded like transmission failure, so when WAE called and said that the issue was due to several things like the Crankshaft pulley and the axles, and listed unrelated services like a coolant leak test, carbon cleaning, airbag light fault, oil leaks and idler pulley repair, I decided to get a second opinion. I told WAE to give me a few days while i figured out what i wanted to do and that i would call them back. This was around 4pm on a weekday. I called insurance to inquire about tow services, scheduled a tow for next day and forgot to call. I own that i forgot to call, but when i DID call to inform WAE that j would be declining service and taking the car, the Service Tech Dylan, was very rude, telling me that i forgot to call and that the car wasnt ready and I could get it by the end of the day. So i said, im coming to get it now. And when i arrived, the car was ready. I asked him why he acted like it was such a big deal to have my car ready and he told me he didnt know where the service tech was. The first irritant want him making me feel stupid for forgetting to call and making it seem like my car was torn apart. I did say i would like a few DAYS, so dont tell me youd of kept the car on the service rack while you waited for me. So i took my car and dropped it at a reliable mechanic that know to be honest. Within 15 minutes of the other shop having my car, they said without a doubt that the transmission needs replacement or rebuilding, and that the noise is coming from the differential specifically.I called WAE to ask for a refund and Dylan answered, I was fine until he got a tone and said he remembered this case well. When I told him I'd like a refund and to speak with a supervisor, he continued to be rude. I told him he talks down to people, he called me rude and hung up.I called back and spoke to Matt, the Service manager and he told me that I wouldn't get a refund and that he has never had a complaint about Dylan. He said I was being defensive and I told him I wasn't meaning to be rude to him, but Dylan's tone and treatment was ridiculous. He doubled down that I didn't ask for help the right way and told me I wouldn't get a refund for their misdiagnosis. They never admitted fault and only apologized to SAY they apologized. They definitely don't mean it and dont think they did anything wrong by the service provided and the way their tech speaks to people.Do not do business here, take your car elsewhere.

TWICE SHAME ON ME!Twice I've had issues with this company.Recently I took my Dodge Challenger in to take a look at a over heating issue.Dropped off vehicle and the next day they called with a $2200 estimate. DILLION informed me that the OE part was 4 to 5 days out and was $1000 for both radiator fans. HMMM, I called the Escondido Dodge dealership and they have the parts in stock and retail is $300. DILLION'S excuse came in multiple layers. We have to mark up parts to keep lights on. The certificates on the wall are the best mechanics. Then it was that dodge dealership only gives a 6 month warranty. Were they buy there parts comes with a 24 month warranty and we only sell the best. WAIT are your parts OE Mopar? YES. So for an extra warranty on the fans I have to pay $700 more and wait 4-5 days longer for the parts it to get in. Sounded like DILLION was pulling fast one on the customer. I called there sister store in Kearny Mesa and Talked with Alan. I told him I needed both fans installed and I was wondering if you order parts straight from Dodge parts dept. Alan replied YES we order from them all the time.I then called and asked to speak with the manager at Escondido and I get MATT.MATT said Alan is just a guy that's answers phones. Then he said we do things at his shop differently. I said can't you just order the parts and add a disclaimer that says parts from Dodge have a 6 month warranty. NOSo what do you want to do. I said put it back together and I'll take it somewhere else.I took my Escalade in years ago and there mechanic said I needed a whole new air ride system. I called the dealership that I purchased it from and they said that only the covers were missing to protect the bags but there shouldn't be any problems. Talked with Owner Brian and he apologized that his mechanic made a error and he was sorry for the missed diagnosis. I let it go that time and thought I would give them a second shot.SHAME ON ME TWICE. Very shady place. I would strongly suggest NOT taking your vehicle to these guys!Service: Auto brake repair

I have had car repairs done here twice and both times they have exceeded my expectations. They're AAA-approved and have very good service and communication. The techs give you a well-detailed run-down of the issues and what needs to be fixed. The shop area and front lobby are also very clean. Just be aware, they are very busy (which I take as a good sign) and usually book out a week or two in advance. Being from out of state, I was relieved to find such a great repair shop. I will continue to use them in the future.Services: Exhaust

I was told my was 150.00 that went up to 350.00when I went in. I wanted them to do a diagnostic on my honda prelude. I had sciatica bad and couldn't work on my car. I am a mechanic. They charged me 500.00for a problem I already knew and wanted to charge me more and never told me exactly what was wrong. I never did anything more to my prelude. All I wanted was for them to find the problem and they couldn't. On 8/11/2023took my honda to Bakersfield had it slogged and it passed so I basically paid west escondido automotive for nothing. I am going to get a hold of BBB and let them know what happened and I have all the Paperwork.

Don’t trust these crooks. Take a vehicle there if you want to get overcharged for work you could have done yourself and then a week later your entire engine may end up in ruin. Their scam of diagnostic lead to total chaos. Go to a dealership over these con artists and their negligence.Services: Transmission

The employees are nice, although they rush through the invoice description. Found an error on my invoice when I got home and had a chance to go over it. Also, their rates are too high. Best part is shuttle service.Service: Auto battery replacement

Exceeded my expectations. I have been using a dealer for service for 8-years and was pleased. However a change in the dealership’s management and approach raised concerns for me. First time at West Automotive, their transparency and willing conversation is exceptional.Services: Transmission

I took my Kia Borrego in for diagnostics and told them I thought it was the alternator. This was confirmed for me from West Escondido Automotive. They mentioned the engine oil was empty and that there was some battery corrosion. They recommended obviously an oil change and battery service, along with the alternator. Which I agreed to. It was a lot of money. But I really had no choice. There was absolutely no mention of anything else from the diagnosis. The next day I was called and informed that my radiator was cracked and I was leaking coolant. They wanted an additional $1300+ to repair. I absolutely did not have this kind money. I asked why this was not discovered during diagnosis. The response I received was "well, we were concentrating on the alternator, because that's what you told us". This is correct. I did tell them I thought it was the alternator. But THEY were responsible for diagnosing the car! I will add here that this vehicle that I have owned since 2012, has NEVER overheated, ran hot, or even ever got close to the danger temp. I repeat, never! I also have never, during any service on the vehicle been told that the coolant was running low. Again, NEVER! voiced my concern to Dylan the service tech and his response was they are a reputable company and they would never make up something. Okay... I also emailed the owner voicing my suspicions in writing, because I wanted documentation. I told the owner that if this vehicle suddenly starts to overheat, I would know for a fact that my suspicions were correct. The very next day after picking my vehicle up, it ran hot and the coolant was empty. This is not a coincidence!!! This company damaged my radiator and refused to acknowledge that they damaged it! This is an absolutely evil company. They know full well that they caused the crack in the radiator and anything else they try to convince me of will be lies! I cannot stress enough to stay away from this company! Their prices are outrageous and they lie to their clients!
