I have been a Y member for the last 8 years at this location. Unfortunately, the Encinitas YMCA has gone downhill in the last few years. Pros: - Safe environment to workout - Plenty of parking - Lots of staff at the front desk - Plenty of classes and daycare if you have kids Cons: - Staff at the front desk lack training and professionalism - Water leaks into the building during the rainy season ruining equipment (the building is literally falling apart) - $65 a month is overpriced (other gyms in the area charge $20-$40) - 2-3 Treadmills down at the same time - Most treadmills have loose belts which is a hazard - Broken mirrors - Lack of small weights - Some machines have rust - Stuffy and humid during the summer, it's actually cooler to workout outside - Lack of equipment, it took 8 years to get a hip thrust machine Suggestions: Fix your equipment or charge less for memberships. Reallocate the money that is wasted on overstaffing to fix the building and gym equipment. For a non-profit the amount of money charged is ridiculous especially for the low income community which a nonprofit should be targeting. How much money are you spending on decorating for the holiday galas, where is the donor money going? How much are the staff paid? Be transparent, spend the money more efficiently and show your members you care about their membership by improving the facilities.

I used to work here ! Loved this facility and the staff! Very clean, very organized! And Ecke offers a lot for the community! Thank you for providing a lovely facility!

This camp has everything you can do, Every summer yearly. The staff are nice and so are the LITs all the activities you can do... it's sooooooo much fun... Except Extended Day was too corny when I was 7-10 years old in 2018, YMCA pick up and drop off was too corny too, in the morning. Cringey ass Music plays and I get too annoyed. Some of the campers hated me, but I was still a great kid.

Our experience with the YMCA's skateboarding program has been fantastic. The YMCA creates a supportive and inclusive environment for skaters of all levels. The instructors are not only skilled but also genuinely passionate about the sport. My child has shown remarkable progress in their skateboarding skills, thanks to the well-structured lessons and individualized attention. The YMCA's commitment to safety is evident, and the facilities are top-notch. It's more than just a program; it's a community where kids can learn, have fun, and develop a love for skateboarding. I highly recommend the YMCA's skateboarding program for both beginners and those looking to advance their skills.

been a member in encinitas for over ten years. great classes, helpful staff around the facility. lots of elipticals, and bikes, and a good amount of machines and free weights. covid did hit them hard, especially because when there's no money coming in from canceled memberships, it's hard to get back up to full speed; but I still get my fitness work in among a great mix of age groups and personalities here. And I know that my dues help support all the re-established programs for the younger members of our community! I recommend the Encinitas YMCA

The guy who runs indoor soccer was screaming the F bomb at me 2 years ago.. when I took out my phone to record, he instantly went back into his office. In November of 2022, I was spit on intentionally by an opposing soccer player right in front of the ref and a ymca worker. Because nothing was done, I spit on the player back. Because of this, they banned me from ever playing again. They never even spoke to me to hear my side of how things went. Perhaps there's a conflict of interest from the earlier incident? Now the rest of the team has finally quit since it's not worth getting injured. The refs don't protect the players and the people in charge don't care to do anything about it.BEWARE

I've been a member of the Y for nearly 20 years. I use the weight room and cardio room 3x per week and have used the pool. The facility is clean and the equipment is well-kept. My husband and I have also taken yoga classes in the past. It's a great place to work out and it's how I stay in shape. It's not the most modern of facilities but that's not what I'm looking for. During Covid they made every accommodation to keep it running by putting the equipment outside. I was so appreciative of that. I am definitely a fan and will keep coming back!

Great Gym, this YMCA has summer camps for kids and also for kids with special needs. The YMCA is also a great place to work out. There is a pool and also a Kindergarten? This YMCA even has a skatepark. You have to pay 10$ for entry though so it’s kinda a scam. Great Gym, would recommend for the all around gym experience.

This gym used to be great but has really gone down hill in the last couple of years. The hours have been cut significantly, they closed a well used area of the gym and now rent it out to random fitness companies that cost money for members to use, they made the masters swimming cost money when it has always been free to members (and have lost a lot of people over this) and with all of this "cost cutting" somehow memberships have gone up quite a bit.The only good thing I have to say is that the maintenance and cleaning staff are very nice and do a great job.I hope the administration realize that this penny pinching model is ruining the San Diego YMCAs reputation and driving people to use other gyms.

Been coming here for sports, adventure guides, swim, arena sports and every year they get less and less friendly and although no major facility improvements or infrastructure changes their prices go up and up, makes you wonder where the money is going. But not the first time thats been asked.....Definitely not impressed Ecke, I don't think the founders or the donors pictured this type of program, lackluster outreach and downright nasty people working for them. The further way from the front desk you get the more abasive and rude they get.Case in point I needed to walk from the arena parking lot through to pick my son up from swim, a woman was at the door and instead of letting me walk the 20 ft she said I had to drive or walk to the other side of the bldg and come in thru the main entrance and was all kinds of nasty about it. I can see that in the height of covid but now, come on get real.I challenge you to get real with your community, return on the investment we all have made with you by pouring our money and kids and time into your branch and be real, common sense, nice, cordial, accepting and understanding we might get back to the Ecke inception back in the late 1980s.Guarantee Todd and Jonathan don't know how their folks are acting, I can't think they would keep them around if they did. For God sakes be better.

The Ecke YMCA Competition Pool was full of bird feces when I swam Friday, 1/2/2023. The roof panels in the center of the swimming pool were removed over the next lane, towards the deep end, and hundreds of bird droppings were on the bottom of the middle of the pool. I came home with a rash. I called the YMCA multiple times Friday, 1/20/23, left voicemails, and no one answered. I sent an email to the San Diego County YMCA with no response. After four days of antihistamines for the pool rash (only on torso under swim shirt because I was covered with zinc oxide from head to toe), and I called the Ecke again this morning (5 days later). No one answered, and I left more voicemails. Pools containing feces must be shut. So, I called the County of San Diego Health to report the Ecke YMCA pool. After, I received a return phone call from the YMCA which denied culpability (claimed noone has complained) and canceled my membership. I asked for the Aquatics Manager's extension (the one online is wrong), called it, and no one answered. The pool needs to be emptied and cleaned. Left 2 stars so people would read. The YMCA rep actually said that he received compliments on the cleanliness of the pool. I didn't add that there was a large bandaid stuck to the the pool and hair and mucus floating. The Executive Director, Lauren Hall had her assistant return my call six days later about feces in the swimming pool

Great facility, they need to expand their hours especially for the pool and gym.
