The resort is an absolute gem, perfectly blending modern design with the natural beauty of the California coastline. The setting is breathtaking, with the hotel perched right next to a stunning beach that provided the perfect backdrop for the most incredible sunsets we’ve ever seen.
From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the immaculate condition of the hotel and its attention to detail. The management team, including Richard, Francisco, and Dennise, warmly welcomed us, making us feel like valued guests from the very start. The impeccable service truly set this resort apart—every staff member we encountered was kind, helpful, and went out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect.
Our room was nothing short of beautiful, featuring an unbelievably gorgeous ocean view that we could have gazed at all day. The resort’s location is ideal, close to Carlsbad, Delmar and just a 20-30 minute drive from La Jolla, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. However, there’s so much to do right at the resort that you may not want to leave.
One of the highlights of our stay was dining at the on-site restaurant, Vaga. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there, and the entrées were delicious, featuring fresh ingredients and unique flavors that left us craving more.
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and they went out of their way to make him feel special with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the room. Also, if you are a Hyatt globalist, they will treat you extremely well here at Alila!
In summary, our stay at Alila Marea Encinitas Resort was absolutely perfect. The combination of stunning design, breathtaking views, impeccable service, and delicious dining made it a truly unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to return to this world-class resort and create more wonderful memories.”
“Very quaint motel! Our particular family-style suite had a partial view of the ocean, and was conveniently located near lots of spots where we could walk to for breakfast or lunch! Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating!
Rooms: We booked a family suite that had one bedroom with a queen bed and full kitchenette and bathroom, and an adjoining door that led to a second bedroom that had two full beds! Perfect for me and my two boys in their 20s!
Walkability: There were several cute breakfast and lunch spots that were easily walkable from the motel. I will definitely stay there again!”

About half an hour to the zoo, safari park, mission beach. It's an adult oriented neighborhood. I didn't see a single child, which is a good thing for here. There is nothing for children to do.
The bad reviews have to be from people with weird expectations. This property was built in 1920. That's part of the charm. It's a small, privately owned hotel, so it won't have all the fancy amenities of a giant chain.
The rooms are charming. Very clean. It's an old building so some small defects (loose tile, small showers) are to be expected. But again, that's part of the charm. The road outside is pretty busy from about 6 am to 6 pm, then quiets down a lot. I slept with my windows open. Some sound from neighboring rooms comes through everyone's open windows, but none through walls. I'm an early bird, but if you're a late riser and light sleeper, you may have to shut the windows after 6 am. Garbage trucks, traffic, the normal stuff. There is also a train that goes by, but I stayed a week and only heard it honk it's horn once.
I hate to even post a review because I don't want everyone knowing about this place. But I couldn't resist.”
“Just a great place no complaints speedy breakfast large king rooms and no need to drive the beach is less then five minute walk enjoy the enchantingly beautiful scenery the sunset is amazing purely a great place to stay”
“Awesome place to crash at! The service is impeccable and the staff are friendly! The rooms are very clean as well! What more can you ask for??
I will be coming back when I visit.”
“This is a wonderful 30 year old inn. My room was large with a huge deck with oblique view of the Pacific. I am sure the more expensive rooms had direct views.Furnishings were neat and clean with glass tops on all flat surfaces. They showed little wear. King bed was just soft enough and comfortable with great linens.Air conditioning is built into the room, not a unit under the window like most hotels. It was excellent and quiet. Open sliding doors to patio deck in evening was a delight. This is the first hotel I've stayed in that the TV remote allowed one to pause the programming like a DVR. Nice touch. This is also the first hotel that offered free indoor parking, a real added bonus. Breakfast was poolside at the cabana and included several options of hot and cold fair. The location has great Pacific views. It is unfortunately very close to I-5 and associated traffic noise. Turning into the drive is a challenge also. The staff was first rate throughout my stay. I recommend without hesitation.”

Rooms: Our room was updated, clean and comfortable.”

There was even a pool where children could play. There's also free coffee. Prices are very reasonable. Who can complain? It was a good motel.”
“We absolutely love this little slice of paradise. My family has been coming here for a couple years, and we always have the most magical experience. It’s so beautiful, peaceful and I swear I sleep like a baby! (My babies do too :) Cannot recommend this place enough! Thank you Moonlight Inn!”
