My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Alila Marea Encinitas Resort in August 2024, and it was an experience we won’t soon forget. The resort is an absolute gem, perfectly blending modern design with the natural beauty of the California coastline. The setting is breathtaking, with the hotel perched right next to a stunning beach that provided the perfect backdrop for the most incredible sunsets we’ve ever seen.
From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the immaculate condition of the hotel and its attention to detail. The management team, including Richard, Francisco, and Dennise, warmly welcomed us, making us feel like valued guests from the very start. The impeccable service truly set this resort apart—every staff member we encountered was kind, helpful, and went out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect.
Our room was nothing short of beautiful, featuring an unbelievably gorgeous ocean view that we could have gazed at all day. The resort’s location is ideal, close to Carlsbad, Delmar and just a 20-30 minute drive from La Jolla, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. However, there’s so much to do right at the resort that you may not want to leave.
One of the highlights of our stay was dining at the on-site restaurant, Vaga. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there, and the entrées were delicious, featuring fresh ingredients and unique flavors that left us craving more.
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and they went out of their way to make him feel special with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the room. Also, if you are a Hyatt globalist, they will treat you extremely well here at Alila!
In summary, our stay at Alila Marea Encinitas Resort was absolutely perfect. The combination of stunning design, breathtaking views, impeccable service, and delicious dining made it a truly unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to return to this world-class resort and create more wonderful memories.

Terrible Service at the Alila Marea Beach Hotel Bar
Our visit to the Alila Marea Beach Hotel Bar was a complete disaster. The waitress with the braids and sunglasses clearly hated her job, and it showed in every aspect of her service. She ignored us for nearly an hour, leaving us to sit there wondering if we’d ever be served. Eventually, we had to go to the bar ourselves just to get a drink.
At one point, she even sarcastically asked my wife if she was trying to make eye contact with her—totally unprofessional. To add insult to injury, the drinks we fetched ourselves were $28 each for martinis, which is just outrageous.
With so many fantastic places in Encinitas and Carlsbad, do yourself a favor and avoid this place. We definitely won’t be coming back.

Alila never fails me. Very good hard product, elegant but modern design, extraordinary view! Stayed in the ocean view suite for 3 nights in a row and had no complaints about the amenities and views. The nearby beach was public, but you can see the sunset from the room anyway. The in-hotel restaurant VAGA is pretty good as well.
Rooms: Good hard products

My girlfriend and I had the most incredible stay at Alila Marea Beach Resort. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the exceptional professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail from the staff.
I would like to especially acknowledgement to Francisco from Valet, whose politeness and helpfulness stood out, and Katie at the front desk, who provided wonderful assistance with a friendly attitude and willingness to go the extra mile. Additionally, Sidney, the Director of Rooms, played a crucial role in making our experience nothing short of perfect with her dedication and commitment.
I would also like to commend Richard Sorensen, the General Manager, for his exceptional leadership and management of the property. The serene ambiance, luxurious accommodations, and stunning beachfront location made our stay truly unforgettable. It is evident that the team at Alila Marea Beach Resort takes great pride in delivering an exceptional guest experience.
We look forward to returning and will certainly recommend this resort to our friends and family. Thank you for a remarkable stay!

I was here for a conference, and did not stay overnight. The entire place is amazing. The views, the location, the building, everything is beautiful and perfect. The staff though, without exception, is beyond perfect. They are caring and seem to know what I needed before I knew it myself. Each person was always smiling and you could tell they were not only concerned about making the best experience for the guest they could, but you could also tell they were treated right by the management- caring attitudes like they had come from above and it was obvious the management also wanted every guest to have an amazing and wonderful experience. I am going back for the same conference in September and will be staying a few extra nights as well.

Great stay! Wife and I went away for a quick weekend getaway and this hotel was the perfect spot to do it. Hotel is the perfect location - easy access to Encinitas and all the great stuff in the area. Private beach access was great. Hotel has an attendant that gives you towels, cold water and will set up an umbrella and beach spot for you. Pool was awesome with beach views up on the bluff. Inside the hotel it’s all first class. The bar and restaurant - Vaga - are awesome. Great crowd at sunset and lots of people really enjoying the setting. Can’t go wrong with this spot.

I was married at the Alila Marea, so my review encompasses the hotel, but much more than that. If you are looking for a place to book your wedding or other event, look NO FURTHER than Jonathan and the Alila Marea. I can not recommend this hotel enough, sing their praises to anyone who will listen, and especially want to highlight the oz behind the curtain, the director of catering, Jonathan F. This man is magic. He is cool, calm, collected, kind, thorough, and helpful. My husband and I looked for months at venues through the SD and Palm Springs area and were frustrated. We live right down the street from the Alila so in summer 2021 we figured we would walk down and check out the new hotel. Absolutely incredible, I wish I could bottle the smell that hits you as soon as you walk in the doors into the unique and beautiful lobby. We walked into Vaga and took seats at the bar and proceeded to have an evening of delight after delight. As we sat there, my husband and I said, why not see what the deal is with this hotel for weddings? We laughed, expecting it to be insanely priced with no availability but figured we'd ask and prepared to be rejected. What happened next can only be described as one of the best choices I have ever made. We were introduced to Jonathan and immediately appreciated his approach. Where many other venues wouldn't work with us, Jonathan went above, listening to our budget, our preferences, and working with us however he could. We had a less than 4 month window once we selected their venue and date and Jonathan kept everything on track. He scheduled our tastings, offered many vendor options, helped me along when I didn't really know what decisions to be made, every step of the way being a kind professional. We even had to postpone our wedding 4 days before the original wedding due to my husband's parent's falling ill and I'll never be able to appropriately articulate how incredible Jonathan was to us. The first words out of his mouth were of concern for my husband's family and not at all about costs, inconvenience to the hotel, the magnitude of work I am sure we created for him having to postpone so close to our wedding date. We ended up having a dinner for 27 friends and family that still came to town for the original wedding date and Jonathan helped us create an awesome dinner for a last minute pivot. We postponed our date to 4 months later and here me now when I say this "THIS HOTEL CRUSHED HANDLING A POSTPONED WEDDING RESPONSE" I doubt any thing I ever experience for the rest of my life will be as professional, compassionate, kind, and top notch as Jonathan was, and the entire Alila staff. We know this was a wedding, an event, a cash event for the hotel. But NOT ONCE, did they make us feel like anything besides friends. Our food the day of the wedding was SO GOOD and I have lost track of how many of our guests said it was some of the best food they have ever eaten. The bartenders CRUSHED it, the servers were attentive and friendly, the hotel even made last minute food changes for my father who has esophageal cancer and was struggling to swallow his dinner. I am grateful for all the advocating Jonathan did on our behalf and the way he treated us and our families and friends. We loved our wedding and venue as much as we do because of Jonathan. We also barely had decorations or flowers because you don't need it there. That hotel is stunning, do yourself a favor and book a night there or head up for a meal at Vaga, I promise you will not be disappointed. 10/10 for this hotel, we walk there every month for dinner or drinks, it is a happy place. Jonathan, THANK YOU.....we will never be able to articulate exactly how much we appreciated you, but please know you have two super fans in us and the many ways you assisted us have left lasting, happy, joyous imprints on our hearts.

While the property is beautiful, it is not set up for a day pass usage. There are no changing rooms or storage room for guests that are coming in just for the day. My friends and I had to change in a bathroom stall before and after the pool. There are no showers to use after either so while we had dinner plans at the end of day, we had to go home to shower and get ready. For such a luxurious place, the amenities were less than accommodating. The view and pool were great.

We loved our anniversary stay here. All the staff were friendly and so helpful.
The room we had was upgraded due to our globalist status and we loved the extra space. I would reconmend a higher floor if able for the better views. Great bath toiletries that smelled wonderful.
The pool was small but fine. Plentiful lounge chairs.
Free yoga and sound meditation on the lawn facing the ocean. Also used the free E-bikes multiple times. Free with helmet and locks included.
Quick valet. Never waited more than 5 minutes.
The restaurant on site was good. Globalist breakfast was excellent.
The location is secluded which is good and bad. Not anything to walk to. The local beach is fine but rocky. But if you're willing to drive or bike you're not far from multiple coastal cities.
But yeah, this is more of a romantic secluded relaxation place. Not a sit and have 100 activities for the fam resort. Just know what you're getting into.
Will def return.

I just stayed at the resort this weekend and we had a wonderful time. Our room looked at the ocean and had a nice big balcony which we loved. The food a the resort restaurant VAGA was really good! We loved the complimentary e-bikes and surfing. Beautiful location too!
