Like the other reviewer says- they simply aren't going to actually try to help you. And they'll be condescending while they're at it.

I will never go here again. Lines are extremely long. Only good thing about this place is that it my commute are shorter bc traffic dies down bc of me waiting in line for so long.

This is the worst excuse for a Safeway ever!! They still charge full Safeway prices however, because they have partnered with pac and save or whoever they make you bag your own groceries! Then they claim they're passing those savings into us, the customers. But really, they're only pocketing any savings they have from not hiring sufficient staff to bag groceries... so, come here if you want to be ripped off even more than you are at regular Safeway stores. They do have security here but it's not to offer to walk ladies out when it's dark and you're alone, it's to protect the store profits against shoplifting... they don't even bother to make the beggars out front leave...

COVID precautions are terrible. The carts are not cleaned, the baskets are often missing. The selection and size is much better than the Grand location which is why I still go. It has food, but the covid experience is pretty meh.

I got these today. A 2 pound bag of all rotten lemons. Not just some... all. And getting to the store is a chore for me so I'm simply out my money. Frustrating.

I don't think management actually wants anyone to shop here. First off, being forced to buy a single protein bar inside of their "we don't trust you" section of the store is time consuming and ridiculous. Second, where are the baskets? How about some carts? The last two times I've gone, I've had to shop for what I can carry, or put items straight into the bags I brought - which is shady and gets you HELLA looks. I live in West Oakland, and sometimes I drive to Alameda for my Safeway experience. Since I could only buy a third of my list tonight, that's definitely where I'll be going my next trip.

I really wish I could recommend going here. They have a large selection and prices are good but they need to make some serious changes. First of all pre COVID I would always be waiting forever to check out. They have so many cash registers but every time they only have about 3 lanes open. I just went back today to grab a few items and they are not taking the proper measures to prevent the spread against COVID. They are not sanitizing carts and no wipes to be found. I saw a spray bottle and a rag that looked liked both have seen better days. I only wanted a basket that you carry and they didn't have any of those available near the door. Plenty of full size carts though. Seems like hand held baskets should be easy to keep stoked up at the entrance since they don't even leave the store. Better off doing your shopping somewhere else.

I really wish I could give this store a better review. It's unfortunate because they keep well stocked, pricing is good & some of the staff are REALLY great. However, they're not taking Covid seriously - they did a great job at first, it's filthy, they don't have anyone cleaning carts or baskets (which scare the crap out of me to just look at - half are filled with trash or broken). I know it's tough and the clientele can be rough around the edges there - I see fights 30% of the time I enter the door. They just recovered from the looting, but come on! I believe they can do better but for now (and the past 4 years) they have let our community down.

Pak 'n Save is my go to "Safeway". It's one easy bus ride away, on a line that's more frequent than most. Most of the staff are helpful, some checkers are friendlier than others but that's not important. The bakery, produce & meat departments are pretty good and they've managed to keep most non-perishables on the shelves during this shelter in place. I like their own brand of breads & bakery items. The only hassles I've had have been from some racist customers (I'm an older white woman). One woman, behind me in line, was busy on the phone and her 3 year old son in his stroller wanted some attention - so he scooted up right up to me and proceeded to kick my calves hard. When I complained, she failed to noticed his actions (of course), but berated me for complaining about her beautiful child! But I digress, other than a few similar run-ins over a dozen+ years are part of life. This is a great place to shop!

I used to go shop here before the COVID-19 pandemic. The store is well laid out. The bakery items and rotisserie chicken are great. I've always had friendly service from the deli workers and cashiers. My only complaint was the lack of sushi in the deli area. There are homeless or sketchy looking people walking through the parking lot - I wouldn't feel safe going here at night. They have security guards at the store but I didn't see any patrolling the parking lot. During the COVID pandemic, management allowed too many people in. There was no line outside the store like with other Safeways indicating they didn't limit the number of shoppers. It was difficult to keep a minimum 6 foot distance (per CDC recommendation) from others while walking through the aisles. Pandemic shopping trip #1 - Cart wipes were all gone and I didn't see employees wiping carts down, employees had gloves but no face masks on. Less than 50% of shoppers had masks on. Pandemic shopping trip #2 - cart wipes were available, employee was disinfecting the carts, employees had face masks and gloves on. Most shoppers had masks on. I'm giving them 2 stars mostly because of the friendly employees, otherwise it would be a 1 star due to lack of safety and health precautions for COVID-19. I called customer service to address those issues.

This is a fairly standard Safeway, though the receipts still say Pak 'n Save. I don't get why the reviews are so negative. I didn't go there for months after moving to the neighborhood since based on the reviews I assumed it was awful. But I've been going there for the last several weeks, and it's fine. Not as high-end as the one in Rockridge, but also less crowded. Y'all need to chill out.
