I had a very similar issue with a roasted chicken a while back. The chicken was at least 3 hours past itsdesignated throwaway time and looked hideous. When I brought it to the cashier's attention, she tried to tell me chickens cooked in the morning will last all day. When I approached a second associate and voiced the concern , the associate wandered off to find a manager... and was seen later in the back baling cardboard no sign of manager.
When I called the store to complain I was chastised by the manager on duty (Justin), for reporting the problem, telling me I had no right to complain and if I didn't like it don't buy it.
Wow.
Not getting any resolution from that store I called a neighboring store in Rancho Cordova. They were just as useless. In fact those two stores then chatted about the incident like two high school teenage girls between themselves, never offering an apology or any issue resolution.
I filed a complaint with their corporate office... was told the manager would call me back. That never happened.
Smart and final as a store, talks up their customer service but this is just another one of those organizations that talks the talk, but cant walk the walk. As noted from similar postings. It's a shame. They have some really nice hard-working Associates, but their management is pretty poor.

Got a oven roasted chicken that was 4 solid hours past expiration. When I brought it to the store's personells attention they were dismissive, defensive and frankly pretty rude. They treated me like I made the chicken and sold it to them, horrible customer service I wont be going back.

I'm an early shopper so I love that Smart and Final opens early so I can get groceries out of the way. This location is always clean, well stocked with the coffee I buy, and the staff are super chill. 10/10 Highly Recommend. :)

There is a laundry Matt next door I thought it would be a good idea to go get laundry detergent and softener at smart and final so I did! As I went to purchase the i teams I was excited to see I was able to get cash back so I pushed the button asked to get $30 back The cashier was so rude said to me "next time you need to ask because I don't have cash for you and that's going to mess up my register and it to early for us to give money out" My response was why would I need to ask you? It's your responsibility to have the register ready. No I don't need to ask. And the cashier began to say no ask now I have to give you $5 dollar bills only. (Which I didn't mind at all) as she handed it to me she said now go! Overall that's so disappointing and disrespectful! I don't care if people are miserable working there but that gives the. No right to be rude towards others.

I remember Smart & Final was usually focused on business customers many years ago. But they're mixed with regular household and business customers purchasing at their store now.The Smart & Final Extra! in Elk Grove is pretty big in size. It is about the same size as most larger supermarkets such as Safeway, Raley’s, etc.I don't see a lot of wholesale size packing meats or other items in the store anymore. Most of the meats, vegetables, snacks, dairy products and drinks are packaged for retail size.The store looks very new and clean. The checkout counters are fast, and the cashiers are polite. Shopping is enjoyable here.The parking lot is very big with enough parking available even during peak hours. The area is very safe.

Not a fan really. They have a bunch of off-label stuff and store brand things that aren't cheaper than if you bought it from elsewhere. Their stock is low often also and not too great a selection. Employees are fine I suppose and parking is easy enough. But there's no real reason to shop here. It's not terrible if you have no other option for food. But not good for deals, or selection, or anything grocery stores really offer...

Always a shortage of items. Flyer highlights were always empty. Warehouse guy is an unapologetic asshole. Stupid customer relations below leaving auto reply messages but not doing anything useful to improve the service quality.
