If you're going to this market for service deli, DO NOT! They're not accommodating for crap. I explained my situation and ROCIO (not sure how its spelled) assured me she would help. SHE DIDNT! Service Delivery staff was trash. Now I have a party with nothing to feed my guests. DO NOT go there. Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else.

OMG!!!! Here we are again! If I had the time to drive back and toss this at the butcher I totally would. Another trip for carne asada. And get the same issue. All this extra nasty fat and film I need to remove and toss out. There goes 1/2 pound of money in the garbage.

Horrible customer service!! I went here earlier today and politely asked a cashier if she could help me out with a little issue I had. I had a gift card that had $500 but the numbers on the card peeled off and the card also got demagnetized. My only option was to go to stater bros where the card was purchased and have them reprint the receipt by simply scanning the barcode on the back that was still visible. The cashier loudly said "oh sorry we don't don't do those things here". She embarrassed me infront of other customers by yelling and rolling her eyes at me. I wanted to scream at her but I have manners, I bit my tongue and said thank you. I was super polite I didn't deserve to get treated this way!!

What is the point of having an express line with a 15 item limit if you're not going to enforce it? I went in to buy 3 items and was stuck in the regular lines for 20 minutes because a lady with a FULL cart of groceries was holding up the express line. And there was a line of people behind her with 15 items or less? The cashier should of sent her to another line, even though everyone behind her in line was voicing their annoyance.

I got a cake made for my niece's birthday. They did everything I asked for and it was only $20.99. It came out beautiful and was ready the next day. The frosting has a little sparkle, the decorating is so well done. Give whoever decorated it a raise. I'm so happy with how it came out, thank you!! (Disclaimer, I didn't actually taste it because I don't really eat dairy but my family said it tasted good)

3 stars for the beautiful and well stocked stores. The lack of personality from some of the cashiers and box-boy/girls prevents the 5 star rating. I've been coming here for years!!!! Employees have always been friendly, pleasant and helpful. But this younger crowd they've got working here is pathetic. A hello or have a good day would be nice. And when packing our grocery bags go a little easy! I mean damn! If an 18 year old can barely lift the bag he/she packed to put in the cart imagine how if is for someone much older and not as strong?? Come on....talk to your people. Crack a fucken smile at least! Im starting to enjoy the drive to the new Whittier Stater Brothers where every employee is friendly.

Nice remodel, clean store, fully stock but the prices are high to compensate for the remodel, I guess. Store associates are friendly and helpful but the lines are still slow, even with a "box boy" at every cashier. For example, a can of pumpkin at a competitor was $2.59, here it was $4.99. Nice store but this is my "desperate"ly need something store" only.

This Stater Brothers recently went through somewhat of a remodel. I've lived in Downey since 1998, and I've had my go of all the markets within our radius. I'm glad to see this market investing in itself. We do most of our shopping here, especially for the meat department. I'm one of those special people who loves liver, and that is not an item that's carried by many butchers. Surprisingly, I've had great luck finding it here, along with a variety of of other meats. Their in-house burger paddies are so good, and they have a great mix of sausages, and prepped ready to cook meats. Overall, this entire store is always well stocked. They have a cut-and-dice station that offers fresh ready to go veggies and fruits. Amazing idea! who likes to chop onions? Not me! Grab some pre-sliced veggies for a sauté, or pick up some fruit for your next gathering. The layout just works, I dont know how to explain it, but you have a sense of where everything is. I enjoy walking this market, and I love that for the most part they always seem to have a good ratio of cashiers to customers. Other places are pushing the self-check-out pretty hard. If I can make a small personal request to management, place fresh basil in your inventory. This is one those ingredients I find myself having to visit other markets for. Hats off to Stater Brothers in Downey on Firestone. Your efforts in store improvements and customer service do not go unnoticed.

The cashier that checked me out who's name is Alexandra according to my receipt (she didn't have a name tag on, she's in her late teens-20s and had her hair in a bun wearing a black zip up sweatshirt on) took an extremely long time scanning my items. She'd pause in between scanning my items to talk to her 2 coworkers about the most non-urgent topic, the time. "Oh my God, it's already 12:30! I can't believe it's already the middle of the day"! *silence for a minute* "I'm still so shocked about my profound realization! It's really TWELVE THIRTY! WOW GUYS CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?" That's great and all go ahead and have your iq lowering convos amongst yourselves, it'd just be great if you kept working as you did, don't force us to try to make sense of your amazement with the time and how this amazement is stopping you from scanning my steak. Sunday at noon people are usually at the grocery store to make a late lunch after not eating breakfast, this was the case for my boyfriend and I and I and we were hungry. I understand some naturally have less emotional intelligence than others, all I'm suggesting is that you do your best. People that act like this should probably only work jobs that have no/minimal customer interaction.

This is my written standing ovation for the meat department at the Stater Bros at Rives & Firestone in Downey. Not only is their meat beautiful and high-quality, but a time of pre-packaging, no substitutes and "all we have is what's on display," to receive truly full and personalized service is a rare treat. Not long ago, I'd gone to a stand-alone butcher shop here in Downey looking for thick pork chops. All I saw were very thin ones so I asked if I could get a more meaty cut, only to be told, "No, those are the only kind we have." To be fair, I did leave rather than pushing the issue and requesting a custom cut. He might have done it if I'd asked. But frankly, if a butcher shop doesn't offer to actually butcher meat for their customers, I'm not going to waste my time there. In comparison, I arrived at Stater Bros today with a very specific request. Not only was my order filled without question or hesitation, the butcher was exceedingly pleasant and went out of his way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I've dealt with this butcher before, a young man named John, and what I appreciate as much (or maybe more!) than his helpfulness and obvious extensive knowledge of his craft, is that it comes with absolutely zero mansplaining. I'm sure other women can attest to the sad truth that masculinity zones, like home centers, auto-parts stores and meat counters are often bastions of condescension and unnecessary advice. For instance, I once needed a battery for my car and the guy at the counter informed me that I'd have to remove the old battery before I could install the new one! "What? You mean I can't just load up on multiple batteries and create my own electric vehicle? Silly me and my inferior female brain!" So, if you're looking for something special for your next BBQ or soirée, or you just need fresh, quality meat for your everyday dinners, all served with a smile and individual attention, you can't go wrong at this Stater Bros. It's now officially my go-to stop for all my carnivorous cravings!

05/06/22.......I bought 9 piece chicken meal at Stater Bros in Downey about 4:31 pm......we were very disappointed for the chicken tasted old or like frozen fried chicken. We ate anyways because we were hungry, but, it was not normally delicious as it use to be. QUESTION: Do you guys save the left over chicken and sell it the next day??
