Gross. Masa was so spoiled, we refrigerated it for only 2 days for our party and when we opened it we couldn't believe how rotten it was. I think this was extra from New Years because there's no reason for this to go bad when it's "freshly" prepared. I should've listed to all these bad reviews on here. Unfortunately they will not give you a refund or exchange. Will never go back here again

I love their maza for tamales!! It's a little far from where I live but I would drive there every year for the holidays to buy some maza to make tamales for the family.

We have been loyal customers of Amapola for over 20 years and by far this was the worst experience! We faithfully get our masa for tamales from Amapola every Christmas. As we started preparing our tamales we noticed the texture was too grainy. We attempted to spread on the husk and was clearly not the same texture as other years. We decided to go back to Amapola and ask to either have it replaced or get a refund but to our surprise it was the worst experience! We were greeted at the door by the "Vice President" Jaime Lopez. Not only was he condescending and rude but was not interested to hear us out.We mentioned we have been loyal customers for many years and noticed the difference in quality. He immediately cut us off and said there was nothing he can do and thats the quality they have. I proceeded to ask if he could pls check the masa I had in hand and said he was not going to check and wasn't interested in what I had to say. He stated Amapolas policy is once I walk out those doors it isn't any of their concern!!!Amapola has always had good quality masa and now to this unfortunate situation you have lost several customers as all our neighbors, family and friends will no longer step foot at Amapola! I asked to speak to the manager and he said I would have to call corporate and speak to the owner but couldn't help me any further. So unprofessional! So rude! I still can't believe how poorly this matter was handled. I will be calling corporate to deal with this unfortunate incident. Please do not purchase your masa there! Once you step out that door they do not guarantee their product!!

Just because I couldn't get a cajeta due to my recent arm surgery and the cashier was being mean about it. I get that it is the tamale season and waited over an hour in line to obtain masa, but I just asked if any employees were willing to help me.

THE WORST MANAGER! We have been a customer of amapola for over 20 years and this has been by far the worst experience ever! We religiously get our tamale masa from your Downey location every year. We used to love the masa there but this year it came out way too grainy to use. We were not able to spread it on the husk and it was clear it was not mixed properly. We went in good faith to let the store know and had an encounter with the "Vice President" Jaime Lopez. We told him our concerns and he refused to return or replace our product. He said as soon as we walked out that door it's not his concern! We were paralyzed with his response. We even asked him to look at the product himself and refused to even look at the product! I asked to speak to his supervisor and said I can call corporate myself! Rude! Unprofessional! Never Again! Thank you Jaime Lopez for ruining our experience with Amapola for good! Even when they had a masa issue years ago we were not treated this way and kept our loyalty with Amapola. You lost a customer and will make sure our neighbors, family and friends know of this experience.

I purchased masa preparada last Sunday December 17, 2023 at the Amapola Market in Downey as I have for a few years now. The masa was bland, and my tamales came out bland as well. The masa was not salted sufficiently and it tasted like it did not have much manteca. It was very disappointing and I will not share them with my family as I have in the past. I will not buy my masa there in the future.

The best masa in town.. they also have the best tamales ready for any occasion :) Be aware that holidays gather 100s' of people for the masa, plan ahead to get in and out fast.

Staff were rude to the elderly for holding shopping carts for support while standing in line for masa and were not allowing them to go into the store until all carts were taken from customers.

They raised their prices right at the commencement of the pandemic. As it was, their quality has never been great so even before I felt this market was ripping off. Their masa and tortillas are great. They have a deli and the food is good as well but not too good for the prices. Se pasan. Their produce, if you Purchase fruit or veggies, make sure you eat them within 3 hours cause it'll go bad, swear. Bakery, same thing. Bread taste good but if you don't eat it within the next 2 hours, it gets hard as a rock. Speaking of bread, I went yesterday to get bolillo for menudo I made, each bolillo is now 50 cents and it was such a bad quality bolillo, unbelievable. Sometimes their meat is nasty too and can foods can be expired oe milk goes bad within 3 days of purchase. Never been a fan but over 23 years, I do go in there maybe 4 times a year and I always end up regretting it. Except tortillas, they're so good!
