This is a warning to anyone expecting quality work. I cannot speak to the quality of other people's experience, but I will let you know what I went through with this shop.
I brought my VW van in for an engine and transmission rebuild. (cost me about 8k). After about a week, I was informed that my car was ready. I went to get the car and paid in full. I start the car and it immediately stalls. I then left the car for them to fix. I come back multiple times and each time, they try to blame every part possible except their work. After 6 months and multiple trips, I finally get a barely drivable vehicle back.
I decided to take the car to another shop and they fixed all the issues in three days. They found many loose nuts and bolts and many other embarrassing issues that no mechanic should ever make. (bad spark plugs, no shims under distributor, very very loose or missing bolts, wrong engine timing, bad mount for transmission, scratches all over passenger mirror paint (I witnessed them scratch up another car right in front of me.), damage to torque converter.) I still can't believe the negligence Al's shop has.
I would give Al's VW shop one star but they did answer my calls and keep trying to fix the car. My engine has good compression and the transmission seems to function. I do not recommend this shop at all.

Thanks for another great engine build. The best. AL is a Engine builder that is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. What sets AL apart is that he is a expert builder AND machinist - he can pretty much build anything you can dream up. He does everything in house. I would not go anywhere else for a VW motor - stock, performance or even Baja.
