Mine is a mixed review - the PRO is that they were open when I needed for an semi-urgent issue, and equipped to give the right treatment (steroid and benadryl shots for what looked like a spider bite on dog's face). The DR assistance and take home meds and instructions were right on. The vet tech was kind and helpful. The CON I'd mention is that you really want to clear your schedule for this place - my 15 min treatment took a good 3.5 hours from arrival to leaving. I have a frame of reference because I had this same treatment done once before at another vet. The cost was not cheap but about what I'd expect. There were only 3 other people in the waiting room and at least 10 people working there, so I suspect there's a lot of pet ER work going on behind the scenes. Based on my experience I'd recommend trying another place unless your pet really needs urgent treatment after hours.

PSA for pet owners: Please beware of Blue Pearl if your pet needs time-dependent life-saving care. My dog and I presented to them 35 minutes after he ingested something poisonous. Rather than treating my dog, I was instructed to "call poison control." (This is after checking in and sitting in the lobby ~30 minutes while the lifesaving window of inducing vomiting/utilizing activated charcoal was closing). Two different people (vet techs?) came out at separate times to speak to me in the lobby and both told me I needed to "call poison control." (BTW, this is regarding the ingestion of raisins, so it's not some mysterious chemical that any competent veterinary professional would not be familiar with). So, in summary, rather than saving my dog's life, I was told to call a hotline that would instruct them how to perform veterinary care. WOW! Thank heavens at that point I elected to leave and head down the street to the other emergency veterinary hospital in town. Upon our arrival they IMMEDIATELY took my dog back into their hospital and induced vomiting. This is before they even had me filling out forms, etc. *This* is how it's done! I cannot thank you enough for the excellent care, Ali and Dr. Garlinghouse (and I apologize but I didn't catch the first person's name who rushed my pup into the back) at Monterey Peninsula Vet! My boy is raisin-free(!) and home and resting now.

I am giving this review a 3 star- maybe it should be lower. The staff is exceptional! The Dr NOT to use is Dr. Leslie Takesake. She is lazy and not compassionate nor thorough. Its a very sad thing when your pet is misdiagnosed and dies! There are many other very good vets there- just please refuse her if she is assigned to treat your pet.

Not a good experience. My pit bull mix had pneumonia. I had just 'put down' (the day before) my elderly blue nose pit due to complications of aging. Our house was reeling from the pain of it all. I could not lose another dog in the same week. I brought her to Blue Pearl out of desperation. I am a firm believer that businesses survive if the market will bear them. Blue Pearl must responds to a need. Pet emergencies. I am disheartened, though, and will not recommend this business. I paid close to 4000.00 to have 'Libby' stay overnight. The charges were in excess, but I was desperate for her to be OK. The next day, the Vet presented treatment options which included a CT scan of $6000,00. I chose a more conservative approach. I am sad about all of this. Needless to say, Libby is healing very slowly. She is very sick and under my own vets care. There has got to be a way to have reasonable emergency care for pets, where a business is paid fairly for their service without what I experienced which was gouging

Blue Pearl Pet Hospital is a pretty good place for emergency veterinary care. The place does seem to be very busy so the waiting time can be several hours. Some of the staff in the office are unfriendly and rude but the doctors and technicians really seemed to be devoted to the care of the pets. The care they provided for my little dog was very good and very caring. The only thing I didn't like was the long wait without receiving any kind of updates. Overall I rate this animal hospital with four stars. I do believe they can make some improvements to their policies and procedures as well as improving the attitudes of their office staff.

I really appreciate Blue Pearl being open when I needed it. That being said, they put me in a room for my consultation that had a sign that said not to use it for 24 hours because it had to be quarantined for bordatella. As I waited for the dr I saw the very small sign on the door and lost a lot of confidence in the care my pet and I might receive. I hope she doesn't end up with bordatella, too. The meds prescribed were too big for my small pet to swallow and weren't chewable. It was suggested I put them in a pill pocket or treat, but since she wasn't eating AND would have had to chew to eat it, the pills were not able to be administered. What a waste!! Needless to say, the treatment did not help my pet get better and I'm currently following up with my vet. I feel that going to Blue Pearl was a waste of time and a BIG waste of money. I was desperate to help my sick pet and I feel we were not given adequate care.

Due to the word count limit, I had to attach pictures of my written review. The pictures contain stories of my bad experiences at this place. For those taking the time to read, please know that my intentions are never to spread hatred and that I'm sharing my story in the hopes that a change for the better will stem from speaking up.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE FOR EMERGENCY VISITS!!!!! Until very recently I had a fifteen-year-old 9-pound Pomeranian that had been very healthy with no notable health problems. I have been very proactive and made frequent veterinarian check ins to assure she was in good health and have continually run regular lab work which has NEVER had any areas for concern. About 3 weeks ago she began spitting up (very small amount) after eating dinner. She still seemed well, and her vital signs were good, and she was eating normal, happy as usual. I decided to take her in anyway just because it happened 3-4 days in a row, and she was in her senior years. I took her to Blue Pearl on 9/6 around 6pm because it was the only available emergency Veterinary Hospital nearby and my work hours aren't flexible, so I didn't have time to make a regular apt. during the day. After about a 3 hour wait a vet technician asked me to go back into a consultation room and before they asked what the reason for her visit was, he asked "what is your current financial ability"? I let him know that I wanted her to get the care that she needed but I was also alarmed that it was the hospital's main objective before even knowing what the issue might be. Before running any tests or even seeing a vet they asked for a deposit in the amount of $5,161.00 (estimate attached). I paid and went home and waited for an update the following day. 9/7 I didn't hear anything so I finally reached Talli Hogan around 3:00 pm on she said that I could come pick her up but that they were hoping for more improvement on her lab work and suggested that I leave her there another day and insert a catheter, so I agreed. I called the next day and she explained that her labs did improve overnight and suggested to keep her longer and collected another charge amount of $2,881.58, I was reluctant but took the advice of the "trained professional" and agreed to pick her up Saturday morning, 9/9. Saturday morning, I continuously called as I had already paid about $8,000 over 2 1/2 days and couldn't afford to keep the bill running but they were understaffed, etc. and didn't have anyone that could prepare her discharge paperwork. I told them to just let me take her home and they could call me with the updates. Eventually I just drove over there about 2:00 pm and they released her. I was informed that she had stage 2 kidney disease and purchased all of the suggested medications. I have never seen her so sick. She was in much worse shape after the intense number of medications. (She was only 6 pounds) She was totally sedated and was in grave condition. The extreme overdosages made her extremely ill and she was barely alive when I brought her home and after about 48 hrs. once the meds wore off, she was a bit better but unfortunately it was too late. After a few days I could see how much she dramatically declined from the heavy drugging and terrible experience so not wanting her to suffer, I called a local vet that was able to come and euthanize her the following week. In total she was there for approximately 60 hours. According to the bill and looking at the "daily" medications she was given up to 8 times a day, most of which I was instructed by blue pearl to give only once every 24 hrs. I can only assume that would be considered malpractice. I have attached the bill of medications for a small 6 pd. dog for the 60 hrs. who went in with lite nausea and come out barely alive. I have contacted them by telephone, email, and postal mail, requesting a detailed explanation and/or reimbursement on the overdosages and explanation on the difference in charges of hospitalization, nursing, and examination fees each charged every 12 hours. After reading over 150 bad reviews, I am mortified that she had to endure this at the end of her life and regret more than anything that I didn't research them before taking her in. Beware as I realized they change business names to stay under the radar, I have charges from pet specialists as well. This has been t

Terrible service and incompetent staff. Over priced because they know that they have your ass over a rain barrel and they are the only emergency clinic on the peninsula. I cant believe that on such a pet friendly area.. we have only one emergency clinic. Go to Santa Cruz emergency clinic!

I don't know how they don't have 5 full stars! I've had to take my dog there twice and one of my cats this week as well. they are friendly and explain everything they may need to do, they give you all the information they can to help you decide what needs or can be done. all 3 times I've been impressed with the entire staff. I cannot say enough good things about BluePearl. I've had to use the other emergency service off Ryan Ranch and it'll cost you $1000. just walking in the door, they aren't as great as they used to be and price gauge the hell out of you. BluePearl hasn't done that any of the times I've had to use their services. I have sent a few people their way, will continue to and will continue to use their serves as needed. I'm thankful for all they did for both my Yorkipoo and my ginger cat. can't say enough good things about them.

Worse mistake was taking my dog here. It was pretty evident that my Sophie had a problem with her mouth. Had they looked at her teeth and saw how her mouth was chattering they would have figured out that the problem was something was stuck in her teeth. Instead they her diagnosed with something stuck in her esophagus which wasn't true at all yet they prescribe medication that was not necessary I ended up walking out of there spending nearly $400 for an incorrect diagnosis. We contacted them to discuss this issue with hopes that they would have at least offered a partial refund however it took us three phone calls to get them to finally return our calls and when they did they refused to change the incorrect diagnosis. Zero stars as far as I'm concerned.

My kitty had a nail bed infection that I noticed on Aug 24th (a Thursday). We took her to a vet that gave her some wipes for this infection on Friday. After applying the wipes for three days she seemed to be getting other symptoms. She was having a hard time breathing and we noticed that this was only occurring after she was getting her nails wiped. We then realized that she had been licking the medication off of her paws. On Monday night around 9PM she got really bad. When we arrived at BluePearl on Monday night, when the lady that come out to the car to retrieve our kitty said that it is very common for kittens to get respiratory infections. We waited 5 hours and they charged us over $300. We explained the wipes situation to multiple people there including the vet and they didn't even acknowledge that the wipes would be the problem. They didn't give us any kind of peace of mind or diagnosis. They said they couldn't tell us what it was without some tests being done and having to leave her over night. The vet wanted to do a bunch of tests including blood work, ultrasounds, and x rays that would cost up to $2,000.That didn't include the over night stay, I'm sure. I didn't feel right about leaving her overnight somewhere with a bunch of strangers. When we declined and asked for antibiotics for the respiratory infection, they made us feel like we were doing our kitty a disservice. Telling us "I'd rather give you antibiotics then not do anything at all". I felt like this was a back handed comment and they were a little upset that they weren't going to get $2,000 from us. They prey on pet parents emotions. It was very hard to see my kitty in pain and they knew that. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because I was hysterical the night she got so sick since she is my first pet and I love her with all my heart. I didn't know where else to take her. I am glad we got the antibiotic because it seems to be already helping. Only because we had to basically demand them. I won't be going back here. They seem like they are money hungry and don't really care about you or your pet's well being. I took my kitty to her regular vet the next day and they gave me something else to help her nail bed infection, told us to stop the wipes, and advised to keep giving her the antibiotics. They also gave her Cerenia to help her keep the medication down since she threw it up that morning. When I explained the experience I had with BluePearl, they told me I had to be careful with places like that because it is very common for them to be only after the money. I don't advise going to BluePearl and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Find somewhere else to go or wait to take your pet to their normal vet if you can. I will be looking for another ER just in case I am not able to make it to her normal vet in the future.

The vets are great but the front reception folks are inept at customer service! Zero compassion and no desire to be helpful. Seems though they are there just for the paycheck and have no desire to communicate effectively with pet parents. I felt as if I was being blown off! Perhaps some customer service training woul be beneficial!
