I had never heard of this museum until recently, when we went for the firs time. Wow, this place is impressive; it is filled with stunning displays, so you may be occupied for an hour or two. My husband said it is known for their cars, and they have a fine selection of historic vehicles, but there is so much more. There are no live animals, but the natural history area is comprehensive, as are the other areas. They are located in an outdoor mall with a manmade pond occupied by geese. I highly recommend this museum!

An enjoyable afternoon at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA. This beautiful museum in Blackhawk has a spacious venue perfect for parties and events, they host a New Year's Eve party as well as, a Halloween Party. The museum has 3 levels: Into China, World of Nature, Art of Africa, Auto Gallery on the First level, and the Spirit of the Old West on the Third Level. I was amazed at how much there was to see and the informative information on Confucius, the Old West in California, and the African Tribes. So, much history tucked away in this Danville museum.

The Blackhawk Museum has so much to see, it is truly amazing. Be sure to plan at least a couple hours to take in the 5 different galleries.

This is one of a kind museum and a must visit! They have an amazing collection of cars, a wildlife exhibit unlike I’ve seen elsewhere with a huge variety of animal exhibits up close, a massive and awesome section on America’s history of the West, and dedicated galleries on China and Africa.

Absolutely a hidden gem of a museum! Not just a showcase of antique cars, but has a terrific area showcasing fish, animals, birds, butterflies, & moths from all over our planet in displays showcasing their natural habitat. Plus additional rooms showcasing African art, and Chinese works of art. They have an upstairs exhibit too, but it was too close to closing to find out what was up there. You have to visit this museum to experience it for yourselves. We went on a Friday afternoon (closes at 5pm). Check for what days this museum is open before going.

So fun, so worth it, it's such an exciting experience for everyone even the adults lol. There's so much to do at this museum and they have a live rhino that charges at you. Make sure you go through EVERY SINGLE part of the museum. Take the time to explore because there are so many exhibits and little details that you won't want to miss out on. I will be coming here again!

The museum opens free to the public to celebrate the MidAutumn festival. It was more crowded than usual seeing a lot of kids and elderlies. The Into the China gallery was breathtaking for the display of model of the forbidden city, the golden throne, Terracotta Warriors and Zeng Houyi bells! And we spent most time in the Indian history gallery. The vintage cars gallery is definitely super cool and worth seeing.I think it’s a good option for kids’ weekend trip! They can learn things and the exhibits catch their eyes.

A small but eclectic collection of U. S. and foreign cars, all beautifully restored and displayed. Not necessarily worth a day trip to get there, but definitely worth it if you’re in the area. Gear heads and any lover of industrial design as an art form will appreciate it. The vehicles rotate in and out from private collections, so there is always something new to see. The rest of the museum is a sprawling collection of exotic animals and native and western artifacts.

This review is based on my interaction with one of the young gentlemen at the front desk (sorry I didn't get his name) and another gentlemen (Terry) who were both very professional.Terry was very informative and took the time to explain a little about the museum, eventhough I was not able to attend on this given day.He even let me walk in to the front area to view the lower area to take a "sneak peek".I could tell Terry enjoys what he does and judging by the reviews, it is obvious why people enjoy their experience at the Black Hawk Museum; because of interactions like what I encountered with Terry. We will definitely be back to check out the full experience soon!

This place took me by surprise in the best way possible. As a car n*** I came for the car exhibit which was nice and all, but the permanent installation Spirit of the West blew me away with the overall quality and informative displays. Then stumbled through the African Art and over to the China exhibits and I have to say they were both magical. Then found our way down to Nature exhibit which was absolutely packed with some of the most lifelike looking taxidermy I’ve ever seen. And I’m generally not a fan but they were so well done and in beautifully designed environments that it was a really impressive experience. Entry was $20 for adults which felt reasonable and well worth it considering the quality throughout all of the exhibits. For anyone in the area I’d highly recommend going for a visit with friends or family, make sure to have enough time (aprox 2 to 3hrs) to wander and read through all of the areas to get the most out of your visit.

Also many antique gas pumps.Native American/Western museum: excellent artifacts, historic information, beautifully presented. An extra treat: a display about Women In The West. Loved that, very interesting. Well done!African Arts museum: beautiful, well presented, I learned a lot. Very impressive. First rate.

Truly a hidden gem! I had never heard of this museum before this weekend, I'm shocked it's not more talked about. I took my car enthusiast boyfriend to the Blackhawk Museum in Danville on a surprise date yesterday, and he loved it! It's important to note--this place is FAR MORE than just an auto museum. They have five exhibits total, but the star is clearly the Don Williams Automobile Exhibit - truly just incredible lineup of cars ranging from 1800s historical replicas or models to modern day 2010s super cars. The "Into China" and "World of Nature" exhibits were fantastic as well. Expect about 2 hours to get through the whole museum, or 90 minutes if you're not stopping to read all the plaques.Tickets were very affordable. $15 for students and $20 for adults. I think children under a certain age get in for free. The staff were all friendly and nice when we walked in, there's plenty of parking. The museum is placed inside an outdoor shopping mall so you have the whole lot to park at, and there's tons of food options to go after.Overall, great day trip for anyone in the Bay Area looking to spend their afternoon at a quality museum for an affordable price!

I arrived a little while after they opened on a Sunday. Parking was easy and there were only a few other visitors. A sign at the front indicated the elevator was out of service on this day. I took the stairs to briefly look at the Old West exhibit upstairs but we were able to use the elevator with a stroller to see the World of Nature exhibit downstairs. The Art of Africa, Into China, and automobile gallery are on the main floor. I was surprised how much there was to see, particularly the Into China exhibit. Looking forward to coming back for a longer visit and spending more time reading about the exhibits.

A real gem of a museum full of special cars in addition to other attractions. There are historical exhibits as well that focus on natural history of the area. Interesting native Americans artifacts. Reasonable price and not crowded, great way to get out of the heat. When I was there "Eleanor" from the gone in 60 second movie was on exhibit. Really is a solid way to learn a few things and see some cool cars.
