Had my engine rebuilt. Wasn't told to come back for a 500mile checkup. Moved to Texas to find out the head gasket was leaking and i have metal in the oil and knocking from the engine.

Steve is a crook, lies to his customers and charges you hours not worked. He does not give a fuck about doing a good job or taking care of customers cars, Ive seen him slam customer car doors in frustration, and lie about the status of a customer car. I HAVE WITNESSED AND LIVED THROUGH IT ALL. He said he will do x amount of work on my car, did half, and charged thousands more of his estimate. HE WILL LIE TO YOUR FACE ABOUT THE WORK HE NEVER INTENDS TO DO, ONLY TO GET A HUGE DEPOSIT. STAY AWAY!!!!!

Clark's Auto Repair shop did an Excellent job of replacing my spark plugs and valve cover gasket...all in less than 3 hours! and at a very reasonable cost. I HIGHLY recommend them. They're also very friendly and knowledgeable about cars.

A long story bit will make it shorte. The first time they had my car to rebuild a sbc in my classic Ford they had it 4.5 month.Ok the cam went flat now it's back at Clark's to rebuild the engine again but with a roll cam kit... wait for it 7.5 months later they finally got it done had AAA bring it home, due to rain which I couldn't work o the tran cove to fit the 5sp o/d I had them instal. Now March got it back on the road again, drove it about 15 miles if that the next day, started it and it sounded like a lifter was a bit loose then pulled it onto the road very slowly and rolling about 10mph the engine started making a deep pounding noise stop a block away from home lifted the hood and listen which side the noise was coming from, closed the hood cheeping back into my driveway and shut it off fast. i called Steve which said there's not space to park it, I said ok then call me when you have a place to park it he's saying call me in a few weeks we'll that got repeatEd a number of times as I get the feeling now of being jacked around now that they owe me a motor 5 weeks of BS then by this time I have go in for lung cancer surgery as soon as I got out of ICU 4 days later I called and was told Steve was out on vacation so , I asked the person who answered the phone if the 40 was being worked on he says last week. Ok I've been h at the VA hospital from March 31 today date April 9 th 2023 hopefully I can go home Monday or Tuesday my wife said Steve left a message last week. The car would not go into gear bc air in the clutch line until pump the clu pedal about 20 times they replaced a front brake line I furniture's all tubing fittings , they reused a 1/4" old clutch tubing which looks like a 16 year old kid did. the chargued me $160 per hr that total 16k once, Im never going back. I hope your luckier then me..

My 1988 F150 had some issues. Ran OK but sucked gas like crazy and didnt seem to have much power. After a compression test I decided it was time so I searched for a shop that rebuilds engines and was very frustrated to find hardly anybody does this anymore, one shop said "you just cant find those engines anymore" and another quoted $9K to put in one of those Jasper rebuilt blocks. A friend told me Clarks still did it and I am very thankful for that information. I had forgotten that I took something there back in the '80s, probably a brake drum or something, and was happy with the work. They rebuilt MY engine for much less money and lets just say you dont know how bad something is until you fix it. It runs great and has far more power and fuel economy. I only have 200 miles on it so its not broken in but every time I accelerate I am amazed by the difference. Easy to work with and willing to patiently answer even the dumbest questions. Im a happy camper (I will only use the truck to tow a vintage camp trailer) with a great truck. Thanks Clarks!

They rebuilt the engine on my diesel pickup truck and about 2 weeks later the engine seized up again. The most ridiculous thing is they tried to blame it on me. In the end they rebuilt it again but the whole experience left a very bad taste in my mouth.

My review comes 2,800 miles after my engine rebuild with kit. Due to Covid and economic restrictions I'm left shivering. The staff is short handed and in a tidal wave of top dollar classic car warranty solutions. My 2003 4.7 Dodge Ram 1500 doesn't have a priority. They pushed me out the door and clogged gummed up my sensors with fuel injector cleaner. After numerous attempts twice replaced spark plugs, coil and fuel injector replacement I'm left misfiring til the end.

Had an awful experience. Dropped off my car with engine problem, one of the lifters failed. When picked up the car, engine was fixed, but drive line, two piece drive shaft were broken, and tiers have thread. Confronted the owner of auto shop. He denies everything. who broke then? New repair $3800. Wish I could give this place one star ???

This is the best experience I have ever had in dealing with car issues. The gentleman at Clark's has helped me with my car twice now and I am recommending this shop to everyone I know. They are honest and don't recommend work you don't need. As someone who is far from an auto expert, I appreciate this. I'm moving to a different part of the bay soon, but will still be bringing my car here for service, because of how stellar the service is. Also, they are just friendly and nice guys and you'll usually get a chance to see some fancy specialty cars when you drop yours off for work--- absolutely a bonus. I highly recommend this shop and will continue to do so to my friends and family. Thank you for taking care of me on the road and keeping me safe!

Clark’s Automotive charged me around 5k for a valve job because my Jeep was throwing a piston error code. After getting the car back from Clark’s after the initial repair I realized that if I accelerated too fast the car would kick into limp mode. I took the car back to Clark’s and they could not figure out the issue. The car was throwing a camshaft position sensor error. Clark’s kept trying to replace the camshaft position sensor but was unable to fix the issue. The 2nd time I took my car into get repaired for the limp mode issue, Clark’s returned my car and it was now in permanent limp mode. Every time I took my car into Clark’s to remedy this issue it got worse. The owner who was handling my issue said he thought I needed a new PCM, I bought the 300 hundred dollar part, Clark’s installed it and then the car no longer started. I literally had to have my car towed to a dealership because Clark’s had no idea what the issue was and honestly they had already been paid so I think they just wanted to be done with my car. I ended up taking the car to a Jeep Dealership, they figured out that the PCM fuse had shorted when Clark’s had try to install the new one. So the fuse was replaced, the new PCM was working but the Jeep was still in permanent limp mode and the issue was not PCM related. The dealership charged me another 750 dollars to figure out that Clark’s had blown the PCM fuse. I ended up taking my Jeep to Big O Tires in Dublin CA, because the price would be much lower than the dealership to diagnose the limp mode issue. Big O Tires master mechanic pinpointed the issue within an hour. Turns out the wiring to the Camshaft sensor had broken very possibly when Clark’s removed the valve covers during the initial repairs. The wiring was replaced for an additional 475 dollars and my car was almost back to normal. I started noticing that the car was burning oil, turns out the new low quality 3rd party valve cover gaskets Clark’s installed during the initial valve job repair were bent and leaking onto my exhaust pipes. This repair cost me an additional 200 bucks for valve gasket replacement because these parts were still under warranty, otherwise it would of cost an additional 1k for parts and labor. All in all Clark’s shoddy mechanical work cost me an additional 2k in repair costs. The original low quality repairs ended up costing me a total of around 7k, instead of 5k. Honestly I really don’t like leaving poor reviews but when you pay 5k dollars and your car has multiple new issues caused by the original repairs, potential customer should know the risks of doing business with Clark’s Automotive.

I don't usually write reviews, but I just had one of the best experiences ever! I own a 1972 Ford F-250 with a coyote swap in it and its extremely hard to find shops that understand custom builds like mine. Because of that, my truck had been sitting in my backyard for the last year due to an issue with the fuel system. I was told to call Steve at Clarks and sure enough, within 3 hours of the first day the problem was identified and literally a day later was ready to go. Shop is super clean and Steve is honest and knowledgeable when it comes to vehicles like mine. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a great mechanic shop that does custom work.Service: Engine repair

Had motor rebuilt and worn suspension parts replaced. My car was in and out of their shop for around a year. The whole experience was terrible. Multiple trips for oil leaks caused by them. Scratched my seat with a screwdriver or something. Way over charged. When I asked them where they got there pricing from, they replied retail. What if I have parts? They said they would mark up the labor to make up for the difference. They were way higher than retail. I asked a for particular brand of parts. They didn't provide. One of the items (8 per) are around $10 ea retail ($80). They charged $47.25 ea. ($378). Quoted $1800-$2200 for suspension rebuild (I was ok). Got a call the morning it was ready, new price over $4500. Watch for the bait and switch. I asked for pictures of the entire build. Haven't received one yet to this day. They couldn't even get the drum brakes right. Over $500 spent to fix their work after I left. After several talks and emails about rectifying the issues, I took them to the Bureau of Automotive repair. They had to return all $ I requested. Per BAR, I can make future claims if necessary. These are just some of the facts! If you have any intentions going here, Good Luck! BTW, I have never sued, or reported anyone to any agency. Clarks was the first, and hopefully the last.
