I’m have been a serious shooter for more than 40 years and I am absolutely thrilled with the work done at TJ’s Custom Gunworks. He put so much time into my gun, I felt like I was his only client. TJ is by far the best pistol smith I have ever dealt with; he kept me involved and asked my input throughout my project. He sent me progress pictures and when choices were possible, he sought my opinion before proceeding. He also made great recommendations to help me chose. TJ is a perfectionist with tremendous skills and great customer service. TJ’s modifications brought out the absolute best in each and every thing he worked on, whether it was reshaping triggers for me or turning my 1911 with 22 conversion into a distinct masterpiece! I can’t express how much I recommend TJ! I wish I could give him 10 stars and put Super Smith in his rating! If you are looking for old world craftsmanship with beautifully artistic touches, TJ’s Custom Gunworks is the right place, and if you are just looking for excellent work with a personal touch, you found it too! Give him a try, you will never regret letting TJ work on your guns!

TJ may be a big fish in a little pond, a pond filled with potential clients willing to wait in a long line for a nod from the 'god of gunsmiths'. But if he insists on running a one man show then he should seriously rethink his customer service policies. Not in the fine print but in BOLD letters at the top of his website we should read, "BY APPOINTMENT ONLY" and "IF YOU WANT A RETURN CALL IT'LL COST YOU $10" and "I'LL LET YOU IN THE DOOR IF YOU PAY ME $100".No one asked for my advice but I'm giving it anyway. Instead of flaunting an "I could care less if you bring your gun to me" attitude, TJ might try being a professional with a qualified front-man able to identify real customers and manage an appointment calendar.Reality check TJ, your business is not the typical firearm service that most gun owners are used to. I drove over an hour on the freeway to the address on your website only to discover that "Suite 37" is a mailbox at "Culver Mailbox" [see photo]. Adding insult to injury, you don't answer your phone! My friend, your customer service practices are rude and inconsiderate. Perhaps, earning only nine 5 star reviews since 1982 says something. In agreement with my review, the attached comment might offer a clue that your 5 star rating doesn't tell the whole story.Fine TJ, be the Grand Poobah of gunsmiths. But do the average guy a favor and practice some common courtesy. Please.~ Very Sincerely, TG

TJ did a trigger job on my New Colt Python. The single action trigger pull out of the box was close to 6 pounds. TJ got it down to a tad over 3 pounds. If you have a New Python and aren’t happy with the single action trigger pull TJ is your man.His turnaround time is amazing!

TJ is the man. For superb action work, I have found none better. I have had numerous high end firearms many with issues directly from the factory. I send them to TJ who quickly diagnoses the problem, proposes the remedy, and with the go ahead makes the fix. He takes the time to do the job right. A true master craftsman.

This place is great, I didn't need anything fancy done, just a professional cleaning and sight adjustment. They are good at what they do.

I had a reliability problem with an older 9mm Browning and wasn’t sure I could depend on it. I realized I needed professional advice. TJ inspected the gun and made suggestions on what he would do, and also told me what was functioning well and did not need any work, but he always left the decision to me. I liked his honesty and his responsiveness and the fact that he never tried to oversell. He does great work at a fair price.

I've had TJ work his magic on four of my guns and I'm convinced he's the best there is. My handguns are completely reliable, they are accurate, and they look great. TJ is a perfectionist (as am I), and it's nice to work with a master who is more focused on the details and making sure everything is right than I am. He kept me informed on the status of each project, including emailed photos. I think his prices are reasonable, especially when viewed in light of the guns' performance and reliability. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Great work done in a timely manner. Read the FAQs. You will better off for it. In addition to pertinent information on how to conduct business with TJ, there are pearls of wisdom within that are worth your serious consideration. Back in early 2000’s I sent him a Sig P229 I carried at work. I had a level one package done with hard chrome. I was very happy with the work he did and still carry that gun today, The hard chrome was so good that when I had it relief engraved it didn’t need to stripped off and refinished.
Fast forward to today (July ‘19). I had a very problematic compensated Caspian Commander 1911 that would shoot a ragged hole but would not reliably cycle. No one could seem to sort it out. I emailed TJ and asked him if he worked on problem guns to which he thankfully said yes. All during this process TJ keep me in the loop via email far better than if we were playing phone tag. I was able to tell him clearly what I wanted and he was able to make many helpful suggestions which I took to heart.
I cannot stress more importantly just how efficiently it is to communicate with TJ via email. Everyone knows exactly what is going on and why with a record of everything. I was able to communicate long after normal business hours. Do not be put off by his policies. They are to your benefit. I like to jawbone on about guns, ammo and etcetera as much as the next guy. What is far more important is getting the work done right and in a timely manner. You want him to work on your guns. They will not be gathering dust while he has them.

I needed a CA compliant 10 round mag for a Hudson H9. Unfortunately they dont exist!! TJ came up with a brilliant solution: welding an aluminum block into an existing mag. The quality is top notch and the price was fair... also the turn around time was 24 hours. Don't hesitate! This guy does amazing work!

TJ's completed repairs of a factory quality issues on my Sig Sauer P220 as well as some upgrades of the action and trigger. I can't speak highly enough of the quality of the workmanship completed on my firearm. More importantly they say what they mean and mean what they say about their service. A rare commodity in this day and age. I highly recommend TJ's for quality repairs and upgrades.
