My German Shepherd had an infection on her genital area and the vet at VCA Cotati tried to use some wipes to clean her with, but she said that the area was so swollen and sore, she really couldn't clean her properly. They sent us home with some of the wipes and a prescription of antibiotics. They told us to really try to clean her with those wipes which, by the way, contained alcohol! No wonder my poor dog couldn't handle the cleaning. After three weeks of trying to clean her with feminine wipes, we went back to this vet and again she just gave us more of the wipes and some powder to put on the area. I was completely fed up and disappointed that this vet didn't even work with my dog enough to clean the area and make sure she was comfortable. I took her to Banfield in Rohnert Park and the vet, Christie Stone, felt so bad for my poor dog. She sedated her so they were able to completely shave and clean the entire area. Then she gave us some really strong antibiotics and ointment to use on my dog. Within three days my dog was back to being the sweet, happy girl she always was. She was finally so comfortable, and no longer in pain. I will never go back to VCA in Cotati again. The fact that they can send an animal home, who is obviously in so much pain, is horrible. Lesson learned.

We have been coming here since 2011 for care of our beloved cats. A month ago our seven year old kitty was sniffling alot and making a strange snorting sound. We were told it was an upper respiratory infection common in most shelter cats, and we were given antibiotics. This did not fix the problem, so we went back last week. We just could not get a straight answer on what was wrong. Many "options" were presented - like a buffet of procedures without a clear recommendation. Our cat worsened in the coming days and in desperation, we brought her to a different vet. It was not an upper respiratory infection. It was quickly determined that it was something structural in the throat, and the strange snorting was actually her struggling to breathe. She was placed on oxygen and given an x-ray. They were correct. It was structural. An inoperable tumor in the throat. Within an hour, our baby was gone. My partner called VCA to inform them and to cancel the "care club". I received a call from them later in the day that my cat died - to collect the remaining balance from the damned care club - $27.00. I do not fault the manager - she was compassionate and very kind - I fault the policy that required her to call. I am so glad that we listened to our gut and sought alternative care. Had we not brought her to Country Care Animal Clinic (who were above and beyond wonderful) she would have suffocated in front of us within days. This was just tragic all around, and I'm seeking more competent care when we are ready to bring a new kitty home.

I would only go here if it was life or death emergency. Be prepared to part with a s*** ton of $$. I've used every emergency vet from here to Marin County and nobody charges as much as these guys do. Definitely a big business veterinary clinic. That said the quality of the doctors seems to be fairly good.

A lot of lies to cover up there mistakes. A lot Excuses. Very bad clinical environment and business practices. As a Disabled Combat Veteran with a Service Dog. Not a place to take any animal too.

Very difficult to get an appointment, they claim so many people bought puppies during COVID-19, they can't keep up.

Dr. Pengburn and the entire staff at VCA animal Hospital of Cotati gave our sweet cat Bubba the most expert, compassionate care that one could ever hope for. This was consistent over several interactions with several staff. We are extremely grateful to them all, and highly recommend to anyone who is looking for excellent care for their pet to bring them to VCA.

Our black lab, 12 years, old had gotten something in his eye. Took him to the vet in San Diego who he always sees. We were on the road and his eye was not getting better. We made an appointment with VCA of Cotati and they were able to see us the next day. They took a look gave an opinion and we followed their advice. Very good care and very accommodating.

I have been taking my dog Jimmy here for a couple of years now. Every person we talk to including front desk associates, techs and veterinarians have been friendly and knowledgeable. I don't ever feel like they try to sell me a service that's not needed. Although they are booked up now weeks in advance (like many vets are these days), they always try to get him in ASAP if he is sick. Thank you for taking excellent care of my Jim Jam.

I echo the recent comments of several locals. This used to be a great place but since VCA (Veterinary Corporate Abusers?) took over it has become a callous money making enterprise. Ditto to the comment that it takes weeks to get an appointment, and if your animal is really sick (even if that animal is a regular customer), you can't get an appointment and are referred to "emergency care" (even during regular hours...note that the expensive emergency care place is also owned by...VCA!) The phone attendant said something like "try getting an appointment anywhere the same day". It seems that patient loyalty has gone out the window. A saving grace is that Redwood Veterinary Clinic in Santa Rosa is open all hours, charges reasonable prices, and seems to have a heart. They aren't fancy, but they get the job done. Maybe they do a volume business? VCA lays the sugar on everyone with phony sympathy but are milking our dollars. What's next? Concierge animal care? I worked in my father's vet clinics in my younger years. I can tell you that this is not the way Vet care used to be, and several old Vets are now turning in their graves. VCA has become the Sutter Health of local vet care, seeking to create a monopoly with high prices. The mind set of the modern veterinarian is that they have the education of a doctor, but don't make the same money, ergo the mimicking of the human healthcare business, complete with corporate chains, healthcare plans, situational "gotchas", and monopolistic practices. Perhaps it would be wiser to make your $175k and maintain your honor rather than $250k by usurer's means (while the animals suffer). Suspicious that the 3 recent 5 star reviewers are from N Hollywood, Hawaii, and Fortuna. Maybe VCA provides a heliport for their pet visits.

Genuine, kind and amazing staff! I cannot express how grateful I am to the amazing individuals who work here! My beloved cat had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in early 2020. Genuine, kind and amazing staff! I cannot express how grateful I am to the amazing individuals who work here! My beloved cat had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in early 2020. Following that, there were weekly visits to the vet for fluids and the staff was always so sweet and accommodating to me and my pet. In some strange way, my cat too looked forward to our weekly visits. Needless to say, she had become quite beloved by the staff and received so much love and attention upon her visits. I became close with them as well and appreciated their service that was always professional and empathic to myself and my pet. Eventually, my beloved cat came to pass and the staff that I had come to know and love my beautiful cat insisted to be present and also pay their respects. It was the sweetest departure I could have asked for my baby girl! Lastly, I am forever thankful for the kind and amazing staff here at the VCA in Cotati. This staff went above and beyond for myself and my cat. Words cannot express how truly wonderful they are. I would recommend them and I look forward to returning one day once I decide to get a new fur babe.

I wanted to write a glowing review of AHOC, but it would take too much time and too many words. We have been taking our cats to them for about 14 years and each was treated as the special cat he or she was. We had 6 cats when we started going to them and not one cat was afraid or anxious. That says a lot about the doctors and techs that work there. I was especially glad that there were alternative treatments available. Two of the cats had acupuncture and loved it. We recently had to say goodbye to our last of the 6. She was surrounded by her two moms, the doctor that did most of her care and the techs that were closest to her although everyone in the clinic loved her and she loved them. I knew it was as hard on them as it was on us. We have a new cat who is somewhat temperamental, but she is absolutely perfect with them. We will definitely continue with them.

This place used to be wonderful. They went out of their way to help let's, now they sell you the "care club" and then refuse to give you timely appointments. I get a few days, but weeks? With a sick pet, that's ridiculous. Also the stupid VCA care club doesn't transfer to other VCAs. I highly encourage you to find a different vets. This place has gone to hell.
