I took my f150 to Mikes Automotive in Costa Mesa.Brett helped me and did terrific job. They told me there was a chance that the spark plugs might break off when removing them. They said it’s 1/2 hour extra labor ($60 per plug) if any do break off or can’t be removed.Next morning they called and said it was ready.I asked them if any broke off and they said “No, we did it the right way”.If this shop wasn’t a honest shop, they could have easily told me one or two broke and it was an extra $120 or more.I really appreciate their professionalism, honesty and their goal of being a reliable and trustworthy business. Id say they achieved that and more.I’ll be back for all my auto needs. Thanks againMike WestAnaheim!!Service: Engine repair

Avoid this joke of a business! Many people are already leery about having to bring their vehicle in for repairs due to the possibility of getting screwed; this place is an example of why. Its nice that the previous reviewers had such a good experience 3 years ago, but my recent experience was very much the opposite. On a recommendation of a friend, I brought my 2002 Honda Accord with 134,000 miles on it (a brand that should last 300k miles with minimal issues) for a routine/preventative maintenance to Mike's. Knowing I also needed rear brakes, I figured I would be better off going to a small business shop than the dealership. At first, both Les and Brett were pleasant and straight forward. I paid $360 for rear brakes and a routine/preventative lube and CHECK-UP (that's same price the dealership was going to charge me). And $300 of that was just labor/service. Oh well, that's expected at these sketchy shops I guess. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a responsible person assume that, at a trustworthy business, a part of the routine/preventative lube and CHECK-UP would entail checking the fluids levels, all belts for wear, and all hoses for cracks and stiffness (a sign they need to be replaced)? The VERY NEXT DAY, not 50 miles later, I find myself stuck on the I-5 freeway shoulder in 85 degree San Clemente, overheated. Awesome! The temperature gauge is over the red zone, the engine is steaming and the coolant reservoir is bone dry. Just because I have a minimal background in auto repair, I squeezed the easily accessible coolant hoses for cracks and stiffness (which is apparently my job, not the repair shop's). What do you know! They are all dry and cracking! Really Mike's? Less than 24 hours after I paid 85% of a total service bill toward "labor," I shouldn't expect that I paid for the vehicle to be fully ready for regular operation? Anyway, I had to get it towed to an after hours repair shop within 7 miles, in San Clemente because that's all my AAA would cover. I called Mike's the same night (Thursday) and left a voicemail to please return my call as soon as possible. They did not return my call the next day (Friday) nor on the following Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. I mean really, if you're going to be incompetent thats one thing, but to try to avoid answering for your mistakes is another. Bad business management! The San Clemente shop was unwilling to store the car until I was able to either get in touch with Mike's or somehow tow it over there, so I was forced to have a leaking coolant hose diagnosed and repaired by that shop. There's another $250 down! Good thing $ grows on trees! Luckily there hasn't appeared to be any further engine damage from running the car overheated on the freeway for any distance. If there had been, this review would be in litigation form with Mike's Automotive listed as the defendant. Since it was clear that no one wanted to call me back and face the music, I had to go into Mike's personally. I spoke to Les who claimed he called me and my voicemail was full. Interesting that I have been getting and returning other voicemails daily for the last week or two. I then reiterated the situation and my concerns, to which he stated "If you're asking me to reimburse you $250, that's not going to happen. That's not my problem. If you had brought it back here, I would have charged you just as much" to fix the hose. Way to stand behind your work like a real business! He then proceeded to rudely explain to me that their particular lube and maintenance includes checking essentially everything but belts and hoses. Basically, I will never be a returning customer here and I will extend the courtesy to my friend that recommended me here, by recommending that he and his family find another, more trustworthy auto repair shop. **Due to the incompetence and short-hand work of Mike's Automotive, my car now has a blown head gasket, at least, and needs either a new engine or I cut my losses a

Mike's Automotive might be the best thing going for car owners in the Costa Mesa area. My 1999 4Runner was towed to another mechanic with a sudden rough idle and loud engine knocking. Initial diagnosis was spark plug damage caused by a broken engine part, likely from below (rather than valves atop the engine block), requiring entire engine replace at a cost of $6,000-$8,0000. I towed it to Mike's for a second look (they'd been recommended). USING PERSISTENCE AND INGENUITY (details would take more words than justified here), they determined the spark plug damage was isolated, freed the metal piece from the piston chamber and -- with an overdue tune-up -- returned the car purring like a kitten for $625. Mike's went the extra mile by thinking (well) and caring, when it would have been much easier to take the path of least resistance and proceed with a HUGELY expensive (and lucrative) engine replacement. Thanks to the team at Mike's Automotive.

If you want honest service you must go and see Brett and Les at Mike's automotive. It feels good to go To someone knowing they're looking out for you and not their bank account. I cannot thank them enough for taking such good care of me and my family, you have a customer for life!

If I could give Mikes 6 stars I would! This place is awesome. I showed up late on a Friday and the owner Les was the only person around. He was working on his own vehicle, and stopped to help me even though they were closed. I needed a new battery and after replacing my battery he even proceeded to check the oil in my car. What a class act. I have been a customer of Mikes Automotive for about 3 years and have always been treated amazing. I will continue going here, they have a customer for life!
