Spare yourself time and money. Do not do to this vet. My family and I have been coming here for years. We walked in yesterday for my dogs rabies appointment, where the receptionist didn’t even greet us. She weighed my dog and kept telling her to Stand on the scale. I told my dog to sit down to help her get an accurate weight. She said “no you don’t need to do that”. Then some random person came from the back, didn’t explain the process (my dog has had a negative reaction to the rabies shot) and a different person came back to return my dog! No one checked us out only to find the bill emailed. Wow. We don’t even deserve a phone call to check us out? We will be going elsewhere.

A picture is worth a thousand words -see my 2 star review under Ann F. Maybe this is why I thought the heartworm pills were included in the already outrageous bill for a simple vet visit with 2 vaccines (estimated cost-$200-$250 max). By the way, whoever heard of charging $100 oops $10 for poop disposal when they insisted I bring one, even after I told Miss Snippy on the phone that his poop was totally normal. Surprised they didn’t charge me for printing the bill, sitting in the office, the glass of water I asked for, etc.

This was my first visit to Dr. Jennifer and I was a bit disappointed. First, the price is outrageous. I brought Toby, my golden, in for two vaccines, a heart worm test and to discuss arthritis meds as he ages. The bill was $415, which I assumed included heartworm medicine. Nope, I was supposed to pick that up the next day for an additional $185*, so grand total if I bought the meds if $800 oops $600. Really? A bit pricey, no? Oh, and even though my dog runs and jumps every day and had parents with hips rated excellent, Dr. Jen wanted to sedate him and take X-rays the same day for hip dysplesia (sp.?). Really? That would have upped the bill for a ROUTINE VISIT to $1000 at least, I am sure. Also, she did not do or at least did not do in front of me or tell me she did it(sure she would have charged!), the test for golden retriever pigmentary uveitis. It is an essential test for all retrievers over 6[my last dog had it at 6 and we caught it early and saved his eyes). It’s a simple test of examining the whites of the eyes for inflammation aka pink eye and checking for high eye pressure (glaucoma). For shame, Dr. Jenny. Also, some on the staff have a lot of attitude-one lady who “helped” me when I came in for the heartworm medicine, was very snippy when I questioned such a high bill. I have been bringing dogs to vets for over thirty years and this was theONLY bill that left me speechless. Finally, the doctor and her staff act like hairdressers, not professional women. My hairdresser, Heather who is in her 20s, has pink oops blue hair as do the other 20 something hairdressers. On young ladies it’s a cute statement of individuality (though they all have it so they are conformists) but on a bunch of female professions much closer to sixty than twenty, it’s trying too hard to be hip and young. So, assuming she’s pretty competent (but missed an important test), she’s still way out there on pricing. Even in Newport Beach, money doesn’t grow on trees. She shouldn’t use people’s love of their dogs to fleece them. Do the right thing, Dr. J. *** Heartworm medicine without extra add-one, is $62 at Chewy. She never asked if I wanted the triple formula or basic. My dog gets sick on strong medicine and we already have a prescription for flea and tick, so the $186 med was unnnecessary and dangerous. Let me guess-a referral fee for prescribing the med? All the vets that are money oriented seem to prescribe the expensive, strong formulas. I miss the days of James Herriot.

I've been going to CDM Animal Hospital for 24 years. This recent visit was my first time since new ownership took over. I brought my golden in because he had something in his paw (or, as it turned out, a broken nail). The new "owner" insisted it was a knee problem and insisted on x rays and insisted he would need orthoscopic surgery. I asked her to simply look at the paw, but she knew better. An hour later I was charged $775 for her services... and (because Dr. Aten happened to be on the premises) they confirmed a broken toe nail. No consideration to NOT charge me. I will NEVER return. I cannot stress this enough: do NOT go there! You will get fleeced.

I write this review with a heavy heart. I've been coming to CDM Animal Hospital for close to 20 years. Over the years, Dr. Aton and team have saved a cat, provided lifetime care and end of life services for our husky, and performed emergency surgery on one of our Australian Shepherds after she ate a rock. My parents even drove 45 minutes one way to seek care for their Labrador back in the day. Dr. Aton, Dr. Hanson, and even Dr. Hooykass (it's been that long) as well as their office staff have always been easy to work with, personable, and like part of the family. They've always put customer service first and been accommodating to their clients and pet's needs. A couple years ago, we moved to Lake Forest. Because of the relationship I've had with CDM Animal hospital, I didn't think once of changing vets. We've continued to make the commute. Today however, I think I'm leaving. I requested a refill of a medication we've used over the years as a maintenance for seasonal allergies. Most recently, we've used it to treat a hot spot. There hasn't been an issue refilling this medication in the past, but today I was informed that my dogs have not been seen in over a year, therefore they could not refill it without seeing my dog, administering vaccines, etc. They were last seen 10/30/21 for wellness and rabies, today is 11/9/2022, 10 days past their threshold. I explained that we were in the middle of hot spot treatment which was almost gone so I'd hate to lose momentum by not having the refill. I was told that refilling this prescription would be unethical and violates their oath for care. Regardless that it could leave my pet vulnerable and in discomfort. I was provided no alternative and quite honestly, surprised by the associate's response and lack of empathy, accommodation and overall well being of my pet. Especially with something that has been so simply refilled in the past. The hard stance and tough girl attitude I received was surprising and not the kind of care or communication I've ever received form this team.As I look up vets in my area now, I stumble across a website for CDM Animal Hospital, however it's not the one I've always known. It redirects to a company called "Thrive Petcare" which seems to take over your practice with promises of growth and prosperity. It make sense now why there's new doctors and office staff I've never heard of...and why the attitude has changed. I hope Dr. Aton can instill in his new team the core values that made his local business a success so that they can understand what it means to be part of the community, and provide it with empathy and customer service.

My daughter rescued 2 kittens who were malnutrition & full of fleas fighting to stay alive! After calling around with no luck we went to CDM animal Hospital I was inmediately helped by staff who were not concerned by payment but to help the kittens who you could see their little spine and bones. Carolyn, Parisa & Devin right away got into action by Making the kittens some food, it broke my heart to see how desperately they ate! Carolynn even change the Dirty towel they were in and gave them a clean one. They gave us some free food and instructions on what to do. Parisa gave me her personal cell and said to call her any time if their health deteriorated in any way! This really gave me comfort because we have never owned cats and I was really afraid of them not making it through the night! They gave us instructions on how to bathe them at home & care for them while at home. I am a single mom with limited income and they will save Donation of items for kittens. They are really Amazing Human Beings and I know because of their love and care for Animals these kittens are alive and Thriving! Tomorrow I will take them in for check up! They will forever be our vet for all our pets

I have seen Dr Cruz twice now, both times she was amazing. She took the time to listen to us and was very thorough checking our dog. I am confident my dog is in good hands. Huge fan, ask for Dr Cruz

We have been taking our pets, past and present to Corona del Mar Animal Hospital since 1996 when we moved here. The level of care, caring and veterinarian skill is outstanding. All the doctors and team members we have known over the years have always put our furry babies and their best interest first. Thank YOU!

My dog usually goes to a different vet, but CDM Hospital accommodated me due to an emergency. They were very busy but found time to see my sweet Lily even though she had never been here before. The customer service here is exceptional as well as the care and concern for my dog.

My dogs have gotten their shots here for years. I've actually gone here for 20 years! But DO NOT use them if you have a medical issue. My dog, 13, developed seizures out of the blue. Overnight I took him to the ER as recommended by CdM vet Carissa Cruz. The ER told me to follow up with my regular vet, I called Dr. Cruz the next day and she refused to refill any meds the hospital gave me (and said he'd need for life.) Although they had received all his ER records and test results Dr. Cruz refused do ANYTHING for this poor dog who was seizing, crying in pain (so loud the receptionist could hear over the phone, but he didn't care one bit). The receptionist actually lied to me and told me they don't stock a medication that I have gotten filled there before. My dog is suffering for no reason because this practice won't provide the medications that could help him. Zero heart. I just don't get it. AVOID if you love your animal. (And believe me, you'll get a fat bill for whatever ticky tacky things they can charge you for - super overpriced. I used to think it cost a lot bc it was top notch care Simply, they lack the expertise to care for sick animals, just healthy ones.)

CDM Animal Hospital is outstanding! I have been taking my senior Maltese to Dr. Aten since she was a few months old. He understands her health conditions and treats us both with compassion. I am eternally grateful for the care he has provided her, and for overseeing the specialized treatments and tests she receives elsewhere. There is no one I trust more with her health. The support staff is also kind and easy to work with.

I'm so grateful to have been referred here. The staff is so caring and professional. It is a beautiful office and our doctor took time and thought to really help my dog. She's on day two of already feeling much better. This is an honest, very special office. I hope my dog continues to stay healthy but CDM has our full trust if help is needed on the future.
