If I could give zero stars I would. Kim absolutely ruined my hair. My hair was chemically melted burnt falling out in clumps of hair. I went in for my 3rd session of getting hi-lights in my darkest brown hair. The first two months of getting hi-lights was ok nothing special. The third month in and third process is when she turned my complete head if hair fluorescent orange. She knew she had really screwed up and quickly had me out the door while my hair was still wet. I had her take a photo before I left the shop something didn't seem right. Being that my hair was wet it was hard for me to tell how ruined it was. When I got home my hair felt like a gummy sticky mess. As my hair began drying it became orange and as dry as straw. My normally thick beautiful hair has been reduced to 1/10th of the hair Thickness I had before she ruined my hair. I was in shock sad and so upset. I went in the next morning to show Kim what she did. Yes she offered to fix it... oh heck no was she going to touch my hair. I did find a professional to begin to fix my hair at a Professional Salon. My first appointment at the my new salon was 10 hours and 15 minutes. I am going in every 2 weeks for 2 hour reparative treatments appointments trying to salvage the hair that I have left. DO NOT let Kim put any chemicals dyes on your hair she has no idea what she is doing. I have learned a lot since my fiasco at Kim's ... hair is important and continued repairs are costly in the thousand dollar range to datas my hair continues to break.

I took my 95 yo mother for a haircut. She did the best if anyone I'd gone to and was super nice to my mom.

Swung by here on a couple occasions on my way up the east bay and have been thoroughly pleased by the haircut I've received here each time. I generally come by on the weekends which can get busy, but Kim works very very fast and can usually work on a couple people at a time (depending on what the client requests). I have very long and thick hair with side swept bangs, so generally I come in when I need a trim. I've gotten my hair layered here before as well and the layering was done very well. When my hair grew out, the layers were still there. Usually, my haircut takes about 10-15 minutes, so I can get in and out really quick which is nice. Something I really do appreciate is how Kim takes time to really talk to the clients and ask what hairstyle they want. If people have a hairstyle in mind, she asks for a picture so that she can get a better idea of how the style looks and from there, she'll actually see if the style you want works with your hair type and your face shape. If not, she'll work with you to see if she can make some changes to still get the style you want, but that works better with the features you have. I've gone to many salons that charge 5-10x more and don't bother even consulting you before hand, so Kim really does go above and beyond to meet her clients wants and needs. On top of that, she's very friendly and open to conversation as well! I'll definitely be back here for my haircuts in the future! Cons: - Expect a little bit of a wait if you come in on the weekends, but entirely understandable seeing as it's a one woman show and all that said, she's still remarkably fast Pros: - Prices are very reasonable - Kim takes all your opinions into account, but also provides her feedback so you don't end up with a haircut you'd regret - Ample parking available - Takes appointments as well as walk ins (very flexible schedule and very accommodating)

After moving to downtown Concord I was a bit worried about replacing my trusted hair salon in San Leandro. After letting Kim at Bright Star cut my hair, I'm perfectly happy and definitely will continue visiting her. Highly recommended.
