About COLUMBIA MUSEUM
The Columbia Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of this Gold Rush town. Though small, it is filled with well-preserved artifacts, photos, tools, and everyday items that bring the 1850s to life. Visitors can learn that Columbia was once the second-largest city in California during the Gold Rush, rivaling San Francisco for a brief time. The displays are clear and easy to follow, making it enjoyable for both history enthusiasts and casual visitors. The museum also highlights local history and features period clothes and a documentary. Many find the town itself to be like a living museum, with plenty to explore and discover. It’s a great place to slow down, learn something new, and appreciate how much of Columbia has survived over the years. Overall, the museum is a worthwhile stop for anyone interested in history and the Gold Rush era.

The museum was interesting but the whole town is a museum. Could have spent hours there. Most places were closed mid week but heard it can be a mad house on the weekend. Definitely worth another trip.
