Everything one needs for great fresh groceries at fair prices. I personally prefer to shop local….columbia Mercantile never disappoints with their meats, vegetables, and a many many various food items.

I haven't been this keen to write a Yelp review in a very long time... I have come upon the mother lode of hidden gems---- Teresa (@ helm) is from Walnut Creek, and I detect Brit in the other gentleman... but what they have managed to procure in their darling, picturesque store (directly across the street from the original mercantile-- think Mr Olson Little House) is NOTHING short of AMAZEBALLS inventory!! From clotted cream to Willamette Marionberry pie slices, to Japanese S&B curry, to Raymond's sourdough, this store is absolutely certain to sate the foodie who misses access to specialty items. My friend even bought a harmonica here! I absolutely think this place has platinum taste, and the decor of the large corner store is so darn charming!! I was waxing poetic to them about what a great job they have done as small business owners. Super rare finds like local soaps, and wines, cheeses... remember those 1970's candy stix? They're here-- which reminds me personally of Farrell's! Lastly, I scored two bottles of sarsaparilla soda here!!! What a total joyful visit and definitely will return!!!! Yay for the best thing I have Yelped about in over 5 years. Don't short yourself of this orgasmic experience and visit!!!!

I don't recommend using this store. The prices are super high and one of the owners refused service and called the cops on me because she thought I was high on something and was talking to myself. I was probably speaking out loud about the items I was trying to get but that is all. In reality I was just getting items. Horrible overall experience.

We’re in town with family for Thanksgiving and ended up at St Charles Saloon for dinner and drinks. We knew we had to hit a grocery store on the way home and popped into the small market across the street because I noticed the perfect 5-star review and had to check out the place for myself because 5 stars is incredibly rare. THEY DESERVE IT! I won’t go on and list everything that has probably already been said except to say that they absolutely nailed it on all fronts….selection, prices, customer service, ambiance, cute canine mascot, etc etc. sooo glad we went!

I've rarely been welcomed into a grocery store in such a pleasant way. Thank you, Thérèse!

This place is amazing. The lady who runs the store was so friendly and has put a lot of time and work into making this place like an old stay grocery store. Stop by and pick up some items to have a picnic in town or go in and grab items to take home and make dinner. There is something for everyone here. This is a place we will be back to visit. What a great experience.

My family and I are big fans of Columbia Mercantile 1855. They have everything and more that you need! From grocery items to wine and sweets you'll return for more and more. The owners are very friendly and bring this historic market to life in their dress and enthusiasm. One can also find some rotating art work featuring local artists. Be sure to stop by! Great prices. A true jewel of Columbia.

Impressive mini grocery store. The store carries premium cooking a d baking supplies. I especially liked the European products and fairly priced. Could not get those in a Safeway. Nice owner too dressed in a period dress. She loves her town!

What is there not to LOVE about Columbia Mercantile 1855! It's a wonderful local store (located in Columbia State Historical Park) that has a wide range of everything...including a wonderful owner! The store carries fresh fruit & vegetables, various meat, breads, pasta, spices, flowers, dairy and non-dairy options, alcohol, gluten free, vegan, art and collectibles...they even carry duct tape and fresh baked pies! You'd think the prices would be astronomical...they're NOT! Don't be put off by the wonderful decor, thinking you'll be paying for it, the prices are VERY competitive AND the service comes with a smile! Lastly, they take all methods of payment and will even carry your groceries to your car :o)

The Gold Country of California - Route 49 - is a gem for visitors to the foothills of the Sierras. It is like a miles long living history exhibit full of interesting places - both modern and historic - to explore. One of the unassuming locations is the Columbia Mercantile 1855 store in the historically preserved, walkable town, of Columbia. Ones first impression is of walking back in time to the best days of the gold rush and imagining what is would have been like for those seeking their fortune and spending their findings. The store has been wonderfully curated with everything from Raymond's fresh baked Sourdough Bread to the most gourmet food stuffs for picnics to items for stocking your shelves back home or at your airbnb. The products are of the highest quality, the variety amazing for such a modest space, and come from all over California and beyond - including French butter. You would be hard pressed to look for something and not be able to find it. The store rivals any large city gourmet market and the local Route 49 super markets yet provides a personal, locally owned experience that will not leave one wanting. The store also offers a wonderful selection of home goods and houses the Argonaut Fine Art Gallery. What more could you want - Straus milk and art.

Teresa and Columbia Merchantile are great! It is a little unfortunate that most of her business is visitors at the State Park (not that there is anything wrong with visitors). But she has so much wonderful, high quality food and other goods. We often stop by there to pick up fresh bread, dairy and many other items.

This shop is beautifully located in Columbia State Park and is really a top quality establishment. Everything sourced is unique and not just something that you would find at a gas station or basic grocery store. A lot of healthy options and interesting snacks too! A bonus is that the store owner is such a kind lady who welcomed me and my family in and was vocal about any questions/any needs we may have. You can tell that the shop has been designed with love and attention to detail and I can't wait to visit it again next time I am in town!

While vacationing in Murphys (we're from Virginia), we headed to Columbia State Park to see the Old Town. Columbia has lots of cool stores and a fabulous one: Columbia Mercantile 1855. The store has fresh market goods, gifts from all over and lots of need stuff to see and buy. You could find all of your hostess gifts and many other tchotchkes you might ever need! Stop in and see the owner, Teresa....she's a peach! And, don't forget to check out the Ranger Office and talk to Stephanie!
