Some folks can't step out without their LV bags. Others, Jordan's or Air Max's, and that's all breezy. When it comes to threads though, there are only few places that keep me eager and wanting for more, and one of those places is Human Catalyst. The Digs: Tucked in between a brewery and coffee shop in the ever-changing Downtown Chula Vista is where you can find Russell Takashima's humble store front. What I love about this spot is that his storefront keeps it clean and simple, allowing his products to be the main focal point once you step inside. The musical slaps welcome you in and invite you to browse around, eventually leading into genuine conversation and networking with other folks that happen to just stop by. The Product: The message behind the thread harps on the hustle that happens from 5-2-9: the dreams and goals that go beyond our own human restraints (my interpretation, of course). Russ truly catalyzed simple, yet effectively designed streetwear that gets straight to the punch. From hip hop to cars and culture, each piece of clothing invites folks from all ages and walks of life to trade stories at his table. The Why of It All: Community - plain and simple. This unsuspecting joint does so much more than just dish out merch. Russ opens his door and welcomes conversations with EVERYONE. He also invests in others with his time and talents to give back ten-fold to different community events and so much more. So the next time you find yourself strolling through 3rd Ave. and you see Human Catalyst, take some time to check out their website (because COVID :( ) and learn more about the brand. Whether you're browsing around or you're looking to add on to your already extensive collection (and yes, about 2/3 of my closet is pure HC wear), I guarantee you'll gain so much more than just a fresh look.

I found out about this great clothing company through a friend. I live right down the street. Russ was a really cool guy and he helped me with all my needs. Honestly really good looking urban apparel with great quality as well. I will definitely be coming back for more stuff in the near future. Thanks Russ!

This concept store and clothing line is what the world needs today. I have purchased merchandise for my nieces and nephews here for the past two years. It's a gift with a special message saying that you believe they (YOUTH) can help make this place better for the next generation. I also have Human Catalyst stickers on my electric car, my water flask, and usually throw one into a birthday card. Thank you Russell for your vision. We are all catalyst for change... May we all be inspired to do our part...

The best customer service I have ever gotten and on top of that, great clothes! Even months apart, Russell was able to remember who I was. He's very kind and very on top of his business ensuring all is great with his customers. If you're ever in need of clothes, I recommend stopping by!

HUMAN Catalyst is the truth! Truly a gem in Chula Vista/San Diego, CA. The mission and vision behind the brand is an inspiring one in which many of us can relate to. Make sure to stop by and see what they have in store, there's plenty of apparel & accessories that are dope for anyone to rock. HC is also heavily involved in the local community. Next time when you are deciding between a mall brand, keep HC in the top of your head and support a dope local brand! Looking forward to more of what HC will whip up

Probably the only real hip hop based clothing shop in Chula Vista/South Bay area (I consider the Avenue part of central SD). This is a local hip hop clothing line that also supports local hip hop events and dancers! The owner Russell is very passionate about his culture, community, and family. It's also a bonus that they're located right next to the Nest on Third.

Russell is a great guy operating a great shop. His clothing brand Human Catalyst carries top notch SD gear. From sweaters, t-shirts down to adorable pins, Human Catalyst offers quality clothing & genuine people. The shop is situated in "Old Chula Vista" where you can find plenty of street/meter parking. The shop is modest, boasting only the best, comfortable clothing. Shirts will run you about $27-$30 while the pins only cost $6 & the beanies/hats will cost around $14-$25 depending on style & color. Support small business & drop by the shop! Thanks for the gear, Russell. Much appreciated!

Russell and his clothing is nothing short of awesome. More than half of my wardrobe is Human Catalyst. I just wish that HC would make men's underwear.
