The General Patton Memorial Museum is an amazing and informative museum dedicated not only to General Patton but to many wars. It is very nicely put together with great displays, a fantastic staff, and a large variety of artifacts. These include good quality, professionally curated displays telling the story of the area and the war, blended with items from personal collections. These artifacts differ from those in other WWII museums and include both significant military items and more personal pieces. The museum sits in the area used for desert training, which is interesting but unfortunately far from a major city. It is literally across the street from the freeway offramp at Chiriaco Summit, making it worth a stop when traveling. Visitors can check out the tanks outside, which are a highlight, and sit to watch the movies playing inside. The Metropolitan Water District section is also wonderful. While a little pricey, it is worth paying to learn about one of the great generals. The museum presents General Patton as a complex man and gives him credit for his role. It is a place for those who like history and enjoy seeing what makes a hero, helping younger generations learn and appreciate these stories.
