Overall, Chico Sports Club is okay, not great, for all the reasons you can read elsewhere. I do have one major issue, however, with the club management, which has left a very sour taste in my mouth. I joined the club last summer and paid for the year in advance. That seemed a reasonable thing to do, even though I suspected I'd be moving in about a year. As it turns out, I barely even got started at the club because my out-of-state move occurred much earlier than I anticipated. For more months than I care to remember, I barely made it into the club because I was consumed with downsizing and preparing my home to sell in order for me to be able to move before the end of the year. I addressed this matter to the business manager in November, requesting a refund for approximately half the year or less, despite my infrequent use of my membership. According to her, it is against policy to refund any portion of payments made for a full year. Interestingly, if I understood her correctly, I could have gotten a refund if I was a monthly paying member and I could prove I was moving. That makes no sense to me. I think this policy is just downright poor business practice and, even worse, lousy customer service. It completely erodes my otherwise favorable opinion of Chico Sports Club. If I remember, an annual membership paid in advance is in the neighborhood of $500+. Surely, some of that should be refundable if the reason is legitimate. Why not? The business manager said the no refund policy was in the fine print of my contract. When I objected, she said she would "ask" the manager/owners if a partial refund would be possible. It took over a month and a half for that to happen, and only after I dropped in to check on any progress just before I left Chico in mid December. I just got the call this week (mid January) to say, nope, not possible. All I can do is sell the unused portion of my membership to someone else, but that would be entirely on me with no help from the club. I'm in Portland now. That ain't gonna work. And I never got an answer to "Why not?" Just, "That's the policy." I'm very disappointed in Chico Sports Club and would be hesitant to recommend it to anyone based on my sour experience.

This is not a gym where a bunch of kids are standing around taking selphies of themselves. It's a place you can workout and get some sets in without having to worry about someone wasting time on their phones

We switched from the other large, popular gym in Chico to Chico Sports Club around 2010. The differences were evident immediately.Since that day, I’ve never had to wait in line for a machine. I’ve never had to call and schedule Childcare in advance, other than for the convenience of the employees, giving same day/time visits. In other words, every time I brought my child in last minute, I was never turned away.I honestly can’t think of any reason why anyone wouldn’t want to join this gym. My favorite part of the gym is its members. They’re my kind of Chicoans. Friendly, clean, quiet, outdoorsy, etc. I really like the staff as well. They’re pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. There is a wonderful community within this club. With the exception of the morning and evening “rush,” around the time all the yoga/Pilates/spin/swim etc. classes are scheduled at once (and maybe the pool area on days when it’s over 100°), this gym is rarely crowded! Even during the peak times, one can pretty much always grab a machine or weights. It’s clean year round, has had a LOT of renovations recently. There are 2 heated pools; one is for laps and the other (a therapy pool) is for water walking/running, lunges, flutter kicks etc. It’s mostly for relaxing. And for kids and babies! The kids tend to hang out in the shallow end. Older kids are pretty good about staying clear for the adults in the deep end. Most of the locks in the locker rooms have 4 digit passcodes that you make up on the spot. There are private lockers available for a monthly fee, although there might be a wait list for those, I’m not sure. One particular staff member could probably be a little more chill and is a bit of a “bossy pants.” He comes off as a sort of a passive-aggressive petty tyrant, hidden beneath a cheerful exterior. I didn’t know that was even possible, but he swings it quite accurately. But again, I truly like ALL the staff members. They all seem to like working there, it’s one big family. :)I think the cost for a guest or visitor is a little too high (currently $15). I’m told that members took advantage of free/lower cost guest passes given out in the past, that there was an abuse of that generosity. I remember a LOT of college students used to come to CSC a few summers in a row, all using those guest passes, which were either free or $5. Perhaps there’s a way to hand out just one or two free ones a year, or maybe just charge less than $15 as it’s that’s quite a lot!As far as memberships fees, they have increased a bit over the years, along with the cost of living. If/once you’re a member, be sure to read all your emails and be prepared for any upcoming changes. Also, communicate w/membership, they can explain memberships better than the front desk people (some of whom are qualified to speak for membership because they’ve had training). From my experience though, I would suggest speaking to someone officially in membership, unless it’s a basic membership question. The cost of living is pretty high and we’ve all got expenses. Imagine the gym’s water bill, yikes! I think Chico Sports Club charges a very fair amount for what you’re getting.CSC used to cell smoothies and sandwiches, etc, but at the time of this review that area is for lease. They still sell sodas, chips, snacks etc. and there’s a big cooler with lots of bottled water for $1 behind the front desk.Anyway, I don’t need to sell this gym, it does a great job on its own haha. This has become a really long review, whew. If you run a great business and put in all that hard work, it’s only fair that customers/members should put in the time and the effort to write a nice review, it’s only fair.Chico Sports Club is an awesome gym for people of all ages and, so far, has been a great price for what you get. There are tons of amenities that I didn’t mention, such as the YOGA, which is why I switched in the first place!!So come check it out, but not too many of y’all, we don’t want it to get too crowded or we’ll need a 3rd big gym in Chico.

Steam room & woman's shower room was ridden w/ mold. Can't have more than 2 individuals on an account (even in same household). I have called 2 weeks in a row every single day and left a message w/ either the front desk or the manager and haven't got a returned call. I am vigorously trying to cancel my membership. I tried to go after work but the manager only works until 3pm! I would not come back here.

Chico Sports Club is a gem. the price is right. The equipment is top notch. Spacious. Excellent staff. Huge locker rooms. Everything is great. This place deserves five stars and we are lucky to have this in Chico. If I had to find constructive criticism, I wish they were open a couple hours later.

Chico Sports Club is the best gym in Chico in my opinion, there is a wide range of group exercise classes I believe there is something for everyone! The NXT Level training studio is my favorite part of the gym and the classes are very affordable for the class experience you get with a trainer. Highly recommend checking the classes out here!

I've been a member since 2015 and absolutely love this gym and wouldn't go anywhere else.
