Stopped in to get water and ice. I had 2 gallons and outside it said 25¢ a gallon. She charged me $1 for 2 gallons because I came inside. Couldn't find any pricing listed other than the 25¢ a gallon. When I asked about it, she ignored me. I have never encountered this before. I will not be coming back.

Times are wild. Doesn't stop this water and ice store from providing clean water whilst maintaining hygiene. Young gentleman put on a fresh pair of gloves, washed our bottles out, filled them, and wished us well. Time before my girlfriend met a woman. Same services provided, and she mentioned hospitality being present. Water tastes clean. No mineral tastes after, and no cloudiness like tap water out here. Wish I could afford alkaline more often! Nice that they have the option there.Found our new fill up spot.

I went pretty long here so it would be a miracle if even one person unrelated to me ever slogged through to the end of this. But heavenly H2o is a subject dear to my heart and here's why. Over forty years ago, backpacking in the High Sierras, I thought water purification kits were a pain in the rump and never used them. I had my own method: when I came across springs I used to go off trail and climb up to their sources to refill with the purest possible water, in which I expected that no fallen dead creatures had been stewing. I never gave a thought back then to how often wild subterranean rodents might p*** or die in the underground waters that were feeding the springs - or to parasites, dangerous types of which sometimes turn up in nature's water as well as municipal water. Whatever caused it, on one trip I got very very sick - knocked flat with apparently only tainted water available for the next feverish day and night. When I regained enough strength to walk I was still too weak to carry much, so had to leave almost all of my equipment behind and hike directly to the nearest road in a desperately thirsty state. See my note at the end re: how smart solo backpacking ISN'T. Safe, pure water has been especially important to me ever since. After breathable air, it's the next most important thing for bodily survival so thanks gods for progress because in developed countries ultra-purified water became very easy to get everywhere. REAL purified water, not what you get from screwing some cheap gizmo to your kitchen faucet; those make it taste somewhat better but don't truly purify it. This store has excellent reverse osmosis water for 25 cents a gallon. It's in a tiny rundown strip mall with a one-way drive, so one advantage they have over some other locations is that it's easy to pull up right outside their door and use one of their big steel carts to fill up a bunch of containers and wheel them just a few feet to your vehicle. There are outside dispensers built into their wall that you can use when they're closed. They keep their filters changed so the water's always tasted great - you can't always say that about the stand-alone water machines that you see all over the place, or about already-bottled water which may have been stored too long at who knows what temperatures: dissolved plastic particles often can be tasted and are proven to NOT be good for us. Glass gallon jugs are easy to find online and are better (but not for storing your emergency water obviously, in case of earthquake.) But probably even plastic-bottled water is better than tap water which is loaded with chemicals and who-knows-what; just try having yours tested sometime. And aside from avoiding piped water for health reasons, how anyone can stand the taste of it is beyond me! I'd bet you a year's supply of Perrier that every TV personality or reporter we've ever heard mocking people for buying bottled water because "you can get water right out of your tap" never drinks straight tap water themselves - they just consider it good enough for the rest of us. I wasn't always comfortable going to this little oasis though - some sleazy looking guys around sometimes, addicts and drifters who hang out on that section of Ramon Road. So I was glad to finally obtain my own home device. I only trust reverse osmosis or distillation and neither of those is cheap if you want a quality system. I don't think either saves you much money, if any, because R/O filters are expensive to replace and distillers use a lot of electricity - so owning a system is just for convenience. If mine's ever on the fritz it's great having this store so close by. They also sell a lot of ice of course, and water containers of various sizes and some other odds and ends including snacks. Because we're AMERICANS so dammit there'd better be junk candy and chips within reach at all times, even when we're out filling up o
