2 stars only because book selection is really good. But I randomly got charged $6 for something I didn't buy. I was visiting from out of town so I didn't check it until I got home 3 hours later. I emailed them a picture of receipt and asked why I received this charge. I thought it was the book marks but I the cashier asked us if we wanted "complimentary" bookmarks. I also called the next morning during business hours but there was no answer. I'll come back and will now always check my receipt before leaving the door. As of 4/9/24 - never got a reply - nothing.

It’s such a beautiful bookstore and I always love the locals collection where they feature books by artists here. There’s also lovely postcards done from artists around here. They have a pretty good selection and I like that they change up and organize the themes (the other day I saw some cute books about clouds!) so perfect for buying books as gifts or just browsing - there’s even comfortable chairs to sit in. Of course it’s perfect being right next to Carmel valley roasting coffee and sweet rebas!!

River House Books has a very wide array of books including books for children. It is nice to be able to browse and look at the books and periodicals. They also have been helpful in ordering books.

Bookstore is nice. The staff absolutely sucks. They don't greet you and ignore. Snobby beyond belief.

Amazing selection of children's books. I want to support our local bookstore but it's hard when the staff is so cold and unfriendly. Will take my business elsewhere where employees are more friendly to those who still want to shop locally for books.

An ok bookstore with the least friendly staff and manager I’ve ever experienced. Totally unwelcoming, two shoppers in the store were looking at each other in disbelief as the two store clerks grumpily rang up their purchases. The manager was drawing names for a raffle but she was not engaging anyone and was actively putting people off. We waited around for a while to see if we might win a raffle prize after buying several books kand then finally just left because it was clear we were unwelcome. Such a bummer. I really like to support local business but will not go back or send anyone there.

A pretty nice bookstore however, the people who work there are so cold. Downright rude, actually and unfriendly. I was there today and asked a couple of questions from two different staff members, and they both seemed really irritated to be even speaking to me. It was just not pleasant. I happened to arrive on a day when a local, children's book author was signing books. I would have loved to have known about this and brought my godchildren but it was not advertised anywhere - not even on the bookstore website. It doesn't seem like it's run very well.

Tourists beware: I stopped by to take a peek at the books since I stopped by other stores to buy gifts. I only bought a post card (to send to my family whenever I am in a new vacation destination). One of the employees (purple hair- nose ring) was trying to distract me with compliments regarding my crystal necklace while giving me the incorrect change (I was paying with cash). She tried to keep a majority of my change while handing me back the change equal to the cost of the postcard even though the exact amt. of change was written on the receipt.

This place is so cold hearted. While they have a good selection of books, it’s the holidays and not one display of novels for the holidays, nothing inviting to even want to buy a gift. What a shame! Go to bookworks in PG—at least there’s spirit and warmth.

I loved this cozy, beautiful bookstore. It helped me discover some wonderful picture books for my daughter while we were on vacation. They don't have everything but had many current and interesting finds. I recommend supporting a local bookstore like this one.
