Terrible experience. The woman behind the counter glared at us while we browsed and was extremely rude. Even our friends who were outside by the windows noticed how she was looking at us. It was really uncomfortable. The moment I decided against buying anything she changed her tone immediately. The name of the store really isn't fitting.
I do not recommend this store and will never return.

A very well curated store with a fun Alice in wonderland theme. One of the owners helped us and seems to really love her job and finding all these treasures.

Woman managing the shop literally pushed me out of the store onto my wife at 510p when they claim to close at 6

The star is for the store itself. It has a lot of well kept antiques, not just pertaining to Jane Austen but more so to her era. I love period-pieces, so getting to witness actual furniture, decor, and editions of literature from that time period was fascinating. The lack of stars represents the lack of decorum the shop owner or manager had for me and my family when we entered. We came in without anyone in sight, and as I was looking at the novels, I felt her sneak up behind and just watch us. No "welcome", no "hello", nothing. I took the opportunity to smile and say hello, but she just half-smiled. She then proceeded to say "ah ah ah" to my friend who was putting away his food as courtesy to the shop. He was at the doorframe while doing this and is well aware of store etiquette. My mom and sister felt incredibly uncomfortable, so they left and agreed to meet me outside. I wanted to give the lady the benefit of the doubt when leaving, and said thank you as I was heading out. I was again met with silence and a rude stare. Guess someone's a little too arrogant to think customers would want to give her business for her haughtiness. I'm just sad an experience my family and I were looking forward to was met in such a way.

A cute store full of antiques and literary treasures! It's located right behind the Cottage of Sweets. This is a great shop for collectors and anyone who loves Jane Austen novels or Alice in Wonderland. They have a large variety of first editions of class novels, as well as collectibles, tea sets, and more. Love the vintage themes and aesthetic. Definitely a cute place to drop by for any bookworms out there!

The name of this store conveys its charm. Lots of sweet Alice in Wonderland dolls, figurines and decor. And a fantastic collection of old and rare books, some first editions. As soon as we showed an interest they told us to pick up and look at any book we wanted to see. Which is usually the opposite experience in this kind of store. They were friendly and we felt welcomed.

This is the best hidden gem in Carmel. I was in love immediately upon walking in the door. This store stocks collector's books- lots of first editions as well as rare and old editions of books. The stock hit a sweet spot with me, full of classics and childhood favorites. There's also an incredible collection of Alice in Wonderland books and collector's figurines, houseware, etc. I'm not even a book collector, but I left with a beautiful first edition of The Secret Garden. It's such a treasure, and I wish I could have left with more (like the first edition Raggedy Ann and a copy of Alice in Wonderland from the late 1800s). The owner was incredibly thoughtful and informative, answering any and all questions about how she collects her books and what drew her to certain ones. This spot deserves way more attention and praise! If you collect books, it's a paradise. If you don't, it's so charming that you might start.

While in town for lunch and an afternoon of leisure, my husband and I decided to stop in. (Well, I insisted we stop in and he so very sweetly agreed.) I am so glad we did. I was in tears and overcome with happiness in finding a 1st edition (14th printing) A Wrinkle in Time which I promptly purchased along with several note cards. This place is so fun! I could spend much longer just browsing through their collection. If you like Jane Austen or Alice in Wonderland, or if you're interested in this period, you must stop in.

I enjoyed finding this little gem tucked away behind the candy cottage. Very much what I was looking for, little souvenirs and trinkets galore and some excellent vintage collectables. I walked away with such beautiful memories and real treasures. I bought an antique Sterling silver teapot shaped tea infuser and the best loose leaf tea! I brought it home and it was better than I had anticipated. The shop keeper was just a doll. I can't wait to return to my new favorite gem in Carmel by the sea.
