“In considering a recommendation for Grand Avenue Flooring, it is good to understand the project. In our case, it was installing manufactured wood flooring to 3/4 of an 1894 Pacific Grove historic cottage, where nothing was level or square. From Sara's review at the shop, we found it easy to understand how manufactured wood floors are constructed, and she also educated us about the various grades (quality) of various offerings. The store seemed to have a wide array of choices for appearance and grades. Sara encouraged us to take home several large samples so we could see how our ambient light would affect its appearance. We decided on Crystal Valley Prairie Wheat white oak hardwood. We contracted with her for baseboards and quarter rounds for a finished appearance.Here is where the important stuff begins. We chose a local contractor, Mike Millette, to work with, and Sara and he coordinated with one another seamlessly. The questions we had about the installation were answered before we actually thought of them. The cottage was not ready for installation when the flooring became available, so Sara stored it until the time was right. She did not charge for this and she held it for more than four months. She also had the wood transported to the cottage for "curing" in its unique environment for several days. She explained that this minimizes swelling/shrinkage problems later on.Sara's installation crew are absolutely without peer -- master craftspeople who managed to work with the eccentricities of the site beautifully. The job was challenging and we paid a little extra as it took longer than anticipated; but it was worth it! The finish and sheen add a homeyness and warmth I hadn't anticipated, and no problems have emerged from her standpoint.One other matter -- Sara made allowances for minor difficulties that arose, and nothing expresses her integrity and genuine interest in providing a satisfactory outcome to her clients than this. The process was friendly, expertly coordinated and, frankly, easy for us. Definitely check out this shop before you decide on proceeding.”
