Freedom Solar put panels on our roof January, 2024. They were great from start to finish. The installers did careful and aesthetic work. We did not have any easy roof!!. We are seeing the benefits now with our pg&e bill.

I'm not a customer and won't be. The reason... Either your salesman can't read or simply didn't respect my NO SOLICITING sign that is clearly visible on my front door.

We had Freedom Solar in Campbell California put on solar panels more than a year ago and we have been pleased with the sales rep Mr. Kennedy, the installers, etc. They always came when they promised and the panels they put on were Sun Run panels which are very reliable. Mr. Kennedy really impressed me with his satellite documents that showed how much sun our roof received. Note that the biggest savings for us is being charged only a minimal PG&E bill during the days the sun is out. After the panels were installed, they trained me on reading and understanding the reports I got from Sunrun showing the periodical electricity used versus produced. Note there are other Freedom Solar companies outside Campbell so the yelp reviews are not always for work done by the Campbell CA office.

In 2024, Freedom Solar still sends unsolicited door to door sales people to our homes and neighborhoods.

We were referred to Freedom Solar by a neighbor. Mark Kennedy was excellent and was easy to work with. The team at Freedom Solar were quick to get the permits and the installation was done in a few days. We are happy customers and would recommend Freedom Solar to anyone who plans to install Sunpower panels.

We had Freedom Solar install our solar panels in January 2023 and we decided to purchase a battery powerwall as I was tired of the power going out. We had our battery installed last month. Our interaction with Mike Obot (sales)
and the entire Freedom Solar team has been a pleasure. They kept me informed during the entire process and always available to answer questions. Thank Freedom Solar!

I would never recommend this solar to anyone either. Worst mistake I ever made is using a new company that don’t care about their customers and won’t take responsibility and they do not monitor their systems and I’m still waiting for this serial number to get in the portal that they never gave us in the first place. Since 2018 and still don’t have it. Solar didn’t work for a year and they never contacted me pg&e contacted me after a year and then sent me a $3000 bill and freedom solar only wants to pay half trying to act like it’s my fault. I only had the solar almost 4 years when it stopped working and what did freedom solar do and was not monitoring my system either or they would have known it stopped working they tried to tell me I must of bought an electric car or something. We are seniors no electric car or anything. The tech said the decline in production is a sign something is going wrong. Freedom did nothing instead they dropped me out of their system and my solar didn’t exist. We kept calling for help they told us we were transferred to sun run which was a lie. They couldn’t even find we existed so they told us anything they could think of. Then it took them 2 months to get a tech out here to find out what was wrong after I had to hound the owners dad because he sold us the solar at first he kept telling me I have the wrong number. Then he got someone to help me but I had to send them a copy of my contract before I could get help because when it stopped working they just dropped us out of their system. Then they found out the box went bad after 3 and a half years and took anothe 6 weeks to replace. I need a lawyer!!!

After the project was completed last year, Freedom Solar applied PGE storage (battery) credit for me and got rejected due to PGE exceeding the yearly quota. I thought that was it and forgot about it. Suddenly, I got information from Freedom solar that they are re-submitting the application again to PGE because we can still apply after x months of installation. After the lengthy application process (I only need to sign), it got approved, and got $1780 back from PGE.They didn't really need to do it so I really appreciate all the additional work they did to get me the rebate.

TL;DR, Stay away from this installer! Do not use this company unless you have a ton of time to waste and want to learn all details of solar installation. There are several negative reviews of them, but all were blamed to the company. To prevent this review being treated the same way, I want to be clear that this review is for Freedom Solar based in Campbell (95008) whose owner/president is Rich M.I seldom leave Yelp reviews, but feel that I have to share my experience with more people regarding this company. Also, their ops manager Michael C. encouraged me to share my experience here. Comparing to most other reviews here, I believe I know a bit more details regarding how solar system works, since I have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering. Before signing the contract, everything moves fast, and very person I talked to was responsive and reasonable. However, once I signed the contract and the made the $1000 deposit, everything stopped, no actual response from they anymore, except saying "will get back to you", but never did. After waited for more than three months (original estimation was 6 months, so they said they did me a huge favor), they contacted me and told me that they could schedule the installation after two days. This was a short notice, but I adjusted my schedule. Then, in the next day, the screws showed up in front of my house without any notice, and wanted to start installation. In the email from Dylan C, he said "We are going to use the Ironridge Flashfoot 2 flashings for your project. These are the equivalent to the Pegasus flashings!", but the crews actually used QuickBolt, which can save a lot of their installation time (google it to find out more), but how long this would last is unknown since this just came out a few years ago. The installation went pretty smoothly and professionally, maybe because of the QuickBolt? And the city inspection went well too. Then the long wait started to get the PTO from PGE. There was no communication or any update from Freedom Solar, the only messages I got every week was the request for final payment. I told them, per contract, my system didn't get the Permission to operate from PGE, which depending the review and approval of the solar system design by PGE. Without the permit from PGE, the solar panels are just useless. But Freedom Solar argues that their contracts with customers require final and full payment after city inspection regardless if it passes PGE review or not. I insisted making final payment only after PGE reviewed and approved the solar system design and sign off the permit to operation (PTO). Because the work has not been completed yet, and here is an email from Freedom Solar:"Once I get the PTO email I will go on the SunPower monitoring portal, turn on your PV, send you an email with access to your homeowner portal."During this time, I contacted PGE many times, and was told that PGE was waiting for installer into upload required documents via their portal, and suggested me to contact my installer. When I contacted Freedom Solar, they blamed PGE for the delay. After another 3 month waiting, the billing department repeatedly sent messages requesting for final payment, and threaten to send the bill to collecting agency. However, the company clearly told me that, they have to wait for PGE's approval before they can turn on the SunPower system and the App. The lady from the billing department then talked to the owner Rich, who is very reasonable, and helped me escalate this to their ops team (who never replied any of my emails), then guess what? The PGE approved the PTO within 36 hours! After the system being turn on, I noticed that power consumption is missing in the SunPower App, which should be a default feature by SunPower as they wrote in the website us.sunpower.com/blog/202…. However, Freedom Solar said this is an extra feature and their customers have to pay extra to enable it. I asked everyone I know who has installed solar, and everyone has this feature no matter what they installed, e.g., SunPower, Tesla, or

Super professional team at Freedom Solar, all the way from design and pricing on to filing for the permit in time for April 15 (NEM2) through to installation (which happened months before the targeted date) and finally to the inspection - just a pleasant experience. I wish more companies would do business like Freedom Solar! Thank you.

I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, it has been a "goat-screw" from day 1. It started out with a late start and wrong number of panels. Seems like there is nocoordination between Freedom Solar and NV Energy for inspections. It should have been operational between Sept/Oct time frame. After getting into my electrical panels for upgrades, waiting on re inspections by city, getting the correct number of panels on roof, waiting for correct paperwork getting back to city, and NV Energy. It has been nothing but trouble.when I call the main office for progress reports, it has been the same story. Paperwork has been resubmitted or waiting on interconnection specialist. As of today, I am 150 days passed my operational date.and still no time from Freedom Solar to have system turned on. This is the first time I have ever posted anything. I'm at my last straw.

Freedom was recommended by my roofer. After comparing the design from another company, I chose them for the project. They are reliable and perform great quality of work. I am very happy with the solar and battery project of my house.

Freedom Solar did a great job installing a solar system for us in late 2021. Rich, the owner, did the estimate and the system design. He answered a million of my questions patiently and knowledgeably, and I really appreciated the fact that he didn't try to sell us a bigger system than we needed. I think his original suggested design was for a system with 7 panels, which would just barely offset our average electricity usage over a year. In the end we elected to go with a 13 panel system to "future-proof" the installation against a time when we might install A/C and / or get an electric vehicle. To be clear, this was our decision and not something that Rich was pushing at all. The installation crew was professional and efficient--the job was done in one day. Maybe the best part was the way that Rich coordinated with our roofing company (we had solar installed right after replacing the roof). He worked very hard to get it all done before the end of the calendar year, which was super-beneficial for us in terms of the solar tax credit and may potentially be to our advantage in terms of the way that PG&E credits us for net electricity generation. Working with Freedom was a great experience, and we recommend them without reservation.
