They have a lot of machines so you can usually find something to use unless it's the busy hours. They don't really keep up on maintaining the machines. I asked about them putting numbers on the weights for the machines so you can tell how much weight your doing, that was over a month ago and still hasn't been done. Other machines are in disrepair also. They close early during the week and really early on the weekends. They need to stay open longer. The people are much more serious about their training here which is nice, a lot of people will let you work in with them. At Planet Fitness most people don't know what working in with them means but I have had two people offer which was nice. The people at the front desk are friendly most of the time. The 42 dollars a month is a little expensive but it is a serious gym not a Planet Fitness faux gym.

Visiting San Jose and they have a week pass that was perfect for me to get my gym time. Nice, clean and everything you need.

Popped in this morning for a workout as I’m in town for the weekend. I’ve been working out for 20 years and I would guess I have worked out in over 100 gyms across the world from U.K. to Brazil to Singapore and everywhere in between. This is hands down the best equipped gym I’ve ever been too. It had literally every piece of equipment you could possibly need for a body building or athletic training workout and multiple of the important/popular ones. Not new or flashy just everything you need and plenty of space. Awesome gym.

I cannot believe it has taken me 25 years to write a review on this incredible gym! Shame on me , but just the fact that I have been a member that long is a testimony to how great it must be. Additionally, I have averaged 5-6 days of attendance weekly in those 25 years, so i have used the gym thoroughly and have witnessed a lot of changes over the years. There are so many great things to comment on, but for me the personality of a gym means a great deal. I have used all of the American Barbell Clubs, but the Campbell gym has been my main hub over the majority of my membership, and the people at the reception area along with the managers are THE BEST..........hats off to Jaz, Kristina, Connor, Ren, Frank, Joseph, Jesse, and Kyle (hope I did not leave anyone out ). The group is warm and welcoming from the time you walk through the door. They are patient with members and will assist you with any questions or issues you have. Each person takes their job seriously but they look like they love what they do and the dynamic between personalities is awesome. Kudos to Robin for pulling the staff together and creating a "family feeling" among them but at the same time developing a sense of professionalism in the environment. The gym has always been well maintained, from the equipment maintenance ( Jon Navarro hats of to you for exceptional work on repairs and installation at how many clubs?) Also, the cleanliness of the gym has been great, especially when certain members have a disregard for any sense of cleanliness courtesy....if we all did our part when using the bathroom for example, it would make it that much more pleasant for the next person who walks in. I have visited a number of gyms throughout the country over the years, but I always feel at home at American Barbell in Campbell. I never want for more. Georgia E.

Was A Great Gym, Now Newbies hog machines and squat racks do a few reps then phone time with no consideration of others in the gym.

Pretty nice gym, especially if you like weights. This place has a very large variety of strength training machines, though there's still a good amount of cardio upstairs. The staff were pretty friendly, and you can get a 3 day free trial here. However, the equipment seems a little worn down or old. They don't have an actual water bottle filler, and the showers are kind of dark and creepy. There is also sometimes a chemical/cleaner smell, and the AC is not super great.

The staff is evil ;-) My shirts don't fit any more! No-one warned me that the XL shirts I've been comfortably wearing for years would get smaller from this gym. All my new shirts have to be XXL. I've got a drawer full of t-shirts that bind on my shoulders. This is incredibly unfair, the staff should have warned me. On the plus side, I'm going often enough to earn free t-shirts with their rewards program. Full disclosure, I've been going there for years, staff is super friendly, members are super friendly, and even if I only get in 20 minutes - it improves my day.

As the name suggests, they have plenty of barbells.…and machines, other free weights, cardio gear, and just about anything else you can think of whether you’re lifting heavy or not in your training. I’ve seen powerlifters, bodybuilders, boxers, and more here, yet as a more casual lifter, it’s a supportive environment with more than enough weights for everyone—I usually come in the morning, but I’ve never had to wait to use a weight or machine

Good equipment and lots of it probably one the best equipped gyms in South Bay , members are serious about working out health and fitness , staff is nice and very helpful.. Space could stand a redesign, some me paint and lounging furniture. Watch out for members who portray themselves as trainers , use the gyms good name and physical space , take deposits but don't perform services as agreed! Other than that thumbs up !

Less equipment than some of their other locations, but the staff is very friendly and helpful and listen to issues when you bring them up. Overall, I like this location.

I have been going to American Barbell for over twenty years ( stared when it was Golds) and it is a decent gym where you can get good workout. The quality of the staff fluctuates over time, but you can generally find them at the desk chatting up each other or friends. Last year I signed up for Silver Fitness, a program offered through my health insurance. It paid my gym dues each month. I was notified in Nov. that American Barbell would no longer participate in the program. The owner posted a letter at front desk stating they were not comfortable any longer due to control issues and not money. I would have to go back to my previous month to month dues. When I contacted staff I learned that I would not be going back to my old dues, but the dues more than doubled. So much for " not being about the money". Being an old dog, I don't like change, but don't like being fed B.S. either.

I went to this gym for six months and found it marginal. There's a lot of room and equipment to choose from, but as others have mentioned, a lot of equipment is also broken. However, the main reason why I'm only giving it two stars is because I had an experience where a manager lied to me. I spoke with a manager over the phone who said she could waive an enrollment fee because I left for a couple months and wanted to come back. When I came to the gym, the manager stated that she never said that the fee could be waived (as I a side note, I did find the main staff and also corporate membership staff to be friendly and helpful, just not the manager). I didn't appreciate being lied to and so I took my business elsewhere.
