Love, love, love this place. Wonderful pools (3 pools) that are heated with the hot springs water. The grounds are beautiful.

Awful awful awful! Hotel looks like a run down old apartment building. People are just wading in the pool with floating noodles. Signs going into pool say, if you have had diarrhea in the last 14 days, don't come in". Super overpriced and needs MAJOR remolding! Won't be back!

We stayed at Roman Spa two days in late April. The location is perfect, we never got in our car until the day we left. There are plenty of great places to eat just a few steps away so it's very convenient. We also loved the landscaping around the resort grounds. We were just in time to see all the beautiful tulips in bloom and it was something special. The rooms are outdated and nothing special but we knew that before we went and still had a good stay. It was clean and functional, no problem. We came for the mineral pools though and enjoyed them very much. I liked that the pools closed at 10pm so there wasn't any loud noise at night. It was a relaxing getaway and we'll be back!

We were looking for a relaxing hot springs hotel, close to all the action but affordable w/o a bunch of kids running around screaming (no offense). From booking to checking in and out, everyone was so pleasant. We got a regular king room (142) no frills, but the bed was comfy and their was a fridge. It was quiet and steps from parking or the pool, location was perfect. We loved that there were sitting areas everywhere and the landscaping was beautiful. The big pool was plenty warm enough, almost too warm. There's noodles to use for floating, you can bring your own snacks/drinks, except no glass. The pool is open from 8a-10p, watching the starts at night is magical!!They do offer coffee in the AM in the lobby, there is no store or food/drink on site. A huge plus is everything is very walkable. I did try a massage at the spa, it wasn't bad but I wouldn't do it again. The spa area is in a sep separate building and not impressive. It was mainly couples and an older crowd. We left there very pruny, but relaxed and would visit again.

I have just returned from a couples spa treatment at Roman Spa. It was a gift and though my partner had never had the Calistoga "mud" experience he was up for giving it a try.Growing up in Sonoma County, Calistoga and mud has been a part of my life for decades. I do think it is a very unique experience and one that if you have never been to Calistoga or taken a mud treatment, should read about the process and the history of Calistoga. The spa center is as I remember most of the spa's. A bit old fashioned and funky. It's a vibe I like. If I want a "modern feel and spa" then it would not be truly a Calistoga experience. Time and all of this wanting a newer, more comfortable, bright, modern space will push spa's owners to make changes but that's not necessarily a good thing. Authentic mud spa ambiance is Roman Spa. I give them kudos for not turning their facility into a posh or hipster environment. The smell. It's sulphur. It is what makes the mud "The Mud." It is smelly. It would have an odor no matter what spa you chose to have your treatment. Heat, it actually was not as hot as a few other places I have frequented. Don't get me wrong, it was definitely hot enough. I believe there is an art to soaking. Float, let the mud keep you afloat and push your body down if you want more heat. My own take, not for everyone. The staff. Unfortunately, I have to say this was the least friendly and least warm group of employee's I have ever encountered in all my years frequenting the spa's. From the very straightforward rule confirmation letter. The rules make sense. Giving them in a tone that is a bit more amiable is possible. The receptionist was cool, aloof and never welcomed us. None of the staff introduced themselves. We felt as if we were in their way. Now, this is very sad. Calistoga has always carried that small town friendly feel. The feel here was cool, not even professional, just cool and lacking any hospitality. When checking out the receptionist asked if we would like to leave a gratuity. We said yes and her very curt and a bit loud response was 15 or 20%? The lack of any civility was heartbreaking. If you can get past the staff, they are not the end all of the experience, then I would say before Calistoga becomes the next high end spa center, Roman is solid.

I've been staying at RHS for years. They've somewhat recently renovated many rooms. Which is great. But this place has a major draw. A large outdoor nature hot springs pool. That alone would be enough. But the grounds are very nice. Lots of well maintained plants and giant palm trees. Making for a very relaxing environment. Other great stuff, a large outdoor hot tub and the lathes indoor hot tub I've ever seen. Pros: you can bring your snacks/lunch and beverages to the pool. No glass, obviously. Cons: kids are allowed. So takes it down a big notch on trying to have a quite adult weekend. (On this most recent visit a Football toss in the pool was loud and included a lot of kids & parents shouting)Overall, this is a place I recommend. Just know what you're expecting.

Great hotel for a relaxing weekend or mid week getaway. The pools are so relaxing day or night. There is plenty of parking and the hotel is a 2 minute walk from Calistoga's main street. We had a mud bath, which I have always wanted to try! It was so relaxing. I recommend upgrading your room to either the room with the jacuzzi & fire or the deluxe room. All staff were so friendly and helpful. Thanks for hosting us!

Hotel room was fine for the one night we spent in Calistoga. It was clean and the bed was comfortable... oh and great water pressure on the shower. What I really want to rave about is the spa! We did the mud and minerals baths followed by massages and wow! Immediately after the mud bath, I felt how much softer my skin was and the mineral bath was so relaxing! The attendant was very kind, attentive and provided wonderful insight. Then came the massages... Rhonda was absolutely AMAZING! She was personable, pin pointed my pain and stress points. I think that may have been the best massage I have ever had. Rhonda was also very knowledgeable about the Calistoga area and gave a great Dinner recommendation! We also enjoyed the additional mineral pools/ tubs at the Resort after our spa service, which made for an extremely relaxing day!

I've been coming here literally since I was a kid (but I wouldn't bring a kid here.) This is a lovely place to relax. The rooms are honestly nothing special, but they're clean, comfortable, and the beds are comfy, too. I love the kitchenette option - it's definitely worth it to get a kitchenette. The booking system is old school, but that's fine with me.(I do miss the little waterfall pond - it was really relaxing to behold - but they ripped it out for a seating section that I've never seen anyone utilize. I hope they put it back in.)Safety: Calistoga is a very safe town.Walkability: Everything you need is within walking distance.

The place hasn't been the same since Covid and I'll tell you why. It's been a while since I visited the Spa for a massage then soak in the hot springs so why not stop by to relax, right? When I booked the massage, the spa receptionist told me that the only appointment was early in the morning with a 72 hour cancellation so I booked it. The massage was quite the experience. First she made an ordinary, big deal about where to put my mask. She wanted me to put it up on a windowsill like what an odd location. Was I supposed to have it hang by its strings on the windowsill's corner? I have had massages in the past so I like to keep my mask tucked under my shoulder so I can quickly put it on when it is time to roll over to my back. When I told her where I am putting my mask, she repeated herself. "Please put your mask up here. Your maaask." I was shocked and just asked her to leave so I can undress and she did. Not even 15 seconds later I hear a knock on the door to check if I was ready. I replied not yet then quickly got undressed. Wow the massage therapist is a talker. I didn't spend the money they charge to have a conversation. She bragged about her experience massaging sports figures but they are humans like myself. I worked around famous people before, not impressed. So when she finished, I was told I'd get a cup of water that never arrived. My wife was scheduled for her massage after mine so I thought I would wait on the comfortable couch in the waiting area. After I paid for both massages, the receptionist told me that there is no waiting and that I had to leave. I could only imagine that she made my wife leave while I was receiving my massage. It turned out that they were not sold out for the afternoon and just wanted to get the customers in and out early so the can relax for the rest of their day. I got a towel and robe and left for the hot springs. I took a shower to rinse off before I soaked and needed a second towel. A worker for Roman was rolling a cart of freshly dried clean towels so I politely asked for one wearing their robe. She said no and that I need to get one from the front desk. So I followed her to the reception desk to ask a man who appears to be a manager. While handing me one he asked what room I was staying in. I replied that I had a massage just now and raised my arm to show off my wristband. It was an odd question to ask someone with a robe with the logo on the chest. Most of the time we were relaxing, the manager and maintenance staff walked over to where we were and talked and watched us. It was a disappointing experience that didn't make is feel welcome.

I treated myself to a last minute massage today and it was incredible!!! Ronda was one of the best massage therapist I've ever experienced. You can feel that she is knowledge and in tune with the body. Highly recommend trying Roman Spa and asking for Ronda. I've done the mud bath here before too. Cool experience as well.

Calistoga is such a special place and we thoroughly enjoyed our 24 hour getaway exploring the town while staying at Roman Spa. I loved that we could walk to incredible restaurants/ shops bc this hotel is located at the heart of Calistoga. Def a huge plus! The geothermal pools (one indoor, one outdoor) were nice - both heated & clean.Probably my favorite aspect of this property was the abundance of beautiful flowers & landscape. My husband and I also got a mud bath... which was probably the most unique experience we've ever done together! He loved it, while I have mixed feelings about submerging in a tub of mud I DID however love the mineral bath that followed. All and all it was a unique, fun and cool experience to do together.

I had such an amazing stay at this beautiful resort!! The room was super clean and the property was amazing. My favorite part was definitely the pool- it was natural spring water and it was HEATED! It felt so relaxing, I would 100% recommend staying here for a getaway. The surrounding shops are great too- such a cute town to visit!

I use 3-star reviews for places that are ok-at-best experiences but would not choose to visit again. This place deserves 3 stars, no more. TLDR: The rooms are overpriced and outdated. It fancies itself a resort, but they have basic amenities (if you're not using the spa). It's basically a motel. We were in town for a wedding and out of town guests were encouraged to stay here. I don't know what I was expecting, but I'm unsure why some people are enchanted with this place. The rooms are outdated and basic -- I've actually stayed in nicer motels recently.Again, there's nothing necessarily wrong with the hotel, the room, or our stay, other than it labels itself a nice getaway, and charges for it. But the carpet, cobwebs, and crooked wallpaper patching tell a different story. The walls are thin, and the carpet is dingy. I would not recommend staying here. There are other places to stay in Calistoga, Napa, and St. Helena that are nicer and more reasonably priced.
