They said the pool was 100 degrees and the hot tub was 104. We were looking forward to a nice soak. Upon entering the pool on a chilly day we found out the pool was only 90 degrees and the hot tub was 95 degrees. Never staying here again!

On the surface this looks like a cute place. We stayed two nights. Upon checking in the desk person acted as if we interrupted his day. No offers of suggestions etc. when we opened the door to our room it smelled. I am assuming a combination of stale air and cleaning products. The refrigerator stunk, bathroom had no where to even put a cosmetic bag down , shower curtain had mold on it, shower water smelled when we first turned it on, only garbage can was in the bathroom, full size coffeemaker with single serve coffee... you get the picture. For $325 a night I expected more!! Stay somewhere else!!

If you want to stay somewhere cozy, clean, and close to downtown look no further. Carlin Country Cottages is the place. The mineral pool and hot tub is extremely relaxing and it's a huge bonus that there's a kitchen in the room. You can even bbq outside in the shared space. I highly recommend!

Friendly check in, however once checked in we found that the entire refrigerator was infested with mold (see picture), which obviously had us question the cleanliness of the entire room. We walked over to have this addressed and the best they could do was move us to a smaller room (no discount as we paid $350.00 for the night for our suite) or they offered to have us check out and not pay for the room (on a Spring April Saturday evening to where there wasn’t anything available on such a short notice). There is also nowhere to plug in any of our cell phones on either side of the bed or in the bedroom.I would not at all recommend this place to anybody and buyer beware!Noteworthy details: Unclean rooms, mold, the owner is not accommodating.

While the staff was friendly at checkin and the location was decent, we overall had a pretty frustrating time. Our cold water in the shower did not work so we were unable to shower during our stay. The mattress was an old hard spring mattress, and there were far more decorative pillows than functional pillows which made for poor sleep all weekend. We tried using the outdoor hot tub and the jets wouldn't turn on and the water was too lukewarm to sit and soak in. Our indoor jacuzzi was large and comfortable but the sulfur smell was so strong we were unable to use. I realize it is a hot spring resort and some sulfur smell is expected, but this was too strong to tolerate, especially when we didn't have a functional shower to rinse in afterwards. Incredibly overpriced for the poor quality of the room.

My husband and I have been going to Napa over the last 5-10yrs and have been to numerous hotels and cottages; because of this, we were initially excited to try out a new place and go to Carlin Cottages. Unfortunately, we did not have an ideal experience - I purposely purchased a room with a soaking tub, and when I ran the tub, there was a smell of rotten eggs. Initially, I made an assumption that this is considered standard, but upon researching, it meant that there was “bacteria” in the drain. Because of this, it also made me apprehensive to use the shower. I called the office at around 9pm, but since it was after hours, there was no response - I was not given an alternative phone number in case of issues like this this occurred. Because of this, I went to sleep, since my plans for using the soaking tub fell through. They called me at around 10:30pm, but did not leave a message, of which I did not see till the next morning. After the fact, I was told that I should’ve been informed of essential oils to be used to mask the smell, but upon check-in, I was not informed of this. Overall, I wasn’t happy with this experience, as I purposely bought this room with the soaking tub, which ended up being its downfall.

I read almost all the reviews, and they all have a good points to make about the cottages. However, in this era of Covid concerns, we really appreciate being able to have a separate, duplex cottage that doesn't share air conditioning, or anything else with the other rooms. We have never stayed here before, and we really wanted to stay in Calistoga for the first time in several years, but weren't able or willing to pay the price is that they're asking for even basic rooms! The cottages are spotless, with new mattresses, upgraded furniture, and whoever could not figure out the bathtub shower has some serious problems. It's like every other bathtub shower we've used- in fact, is exactly like the one we have at home. We were in cottage eight at the end, which has a king bed and a full kitchen -- plenty of room for two and a comfy couch to sit in while watching TV.The TV is a little confusing -- you need to remote if you want to use things like YouTube or Netflix. One remote is for the cable TV channels, the other controls Internet-based apps. It took us a bit to figure it out but the front desk explained it to us.As we are an older couple, we were concerned that there were many families with kids staying there. But every single family was wonderfully friendly, played with their kids, and then just leave them at the pool, unattended, and make sure we had plenty of room in time to have our own swim. We tended to swim in the mornings before any of the families got up, which works great for us but we also had late afternoons as well. The pool was the perfect temperature for us to go swimming but if you really, really, really don't like kids this probably isn't the place for you. There's plenty of patio space, and some barbecue grills, so we spent a lot of time just hanging out with the wine we bought in town and the snacks from the groceries we brought. If you're out to go winetasting or whatever you're not far from many wonderful wineries, and great restaurants. But we found it to be a great place to just relax on her own.But again, as others have said, the staff really make this the stupendous place that it is. If you're very lucky, you'll get to hang out with Matt, the owner's son, who has many stories about the history of the cottages, and of life growing up in northern California. It's rare to be able to stay in a place that's been family owned for over 60 years and not just some corporate IKEA quality lodging. And every single staff member we met from the front desk to the housekeepers to the evening staff, were gracious, helpful and willing to help us with any requests we had.The pool is small, in the hot tub as some have mentioned, sometimes does not get heated up to the proper temperature. But the staff are very willing to adjust if they see that people are using it and go out of their way to make sure it's hot enough. We really enjoyed our holiday. Stay there and we will be back. I have to admit we probably wouldn't stay there in the height of the summer season, as the pool and hot tub with both seem cramped if it was super crowded. But any other time of year, it's a clean, friendly, and well appointed space to just relax in.

It is an excellent or at least pretty decent $125/night place. At the actual price, not so much.On the first night we discovered the remote for the TV was missing. On the second night we got a remote and the TV died completely.Turning on the shower was a devishly clever puzzle involving... Well, no spoilers. Hint: you'll never guess.Hanging towels on the rack in the bathroom blocks the door. There were two envelopes of coffee ready and willing to serve in the morning, both decaf. It was like a brilliantly subtle hell for those with more money than sense.

Today's version of Carlin Cottage looks nothing like the reviews from several years ago. It's fully renovated at least from what we saw. The first word that came to mind when we arrived is clean. Everything is so very, very clean. It's like no one had ever stayed on our room or swam in the pool. We were in unit 12 which is the accessible room. Spacious for our family if 4 - queen bedroom and 2 twins in common area. They allow dogs under 30 lbs so that was another plus for us and we brought our 10lb maltipoo. The other plus is the full kitchen. We usually cook meals for the kids because all they eat is kids' food and that's not really worth the restaurant price. 12-15 walk to downtown came in handy to burn off all the wine and food calories and a 15-20 minute drive to Charles Krug winery where we saw a concert and was the reason we came into town. They have several outdoor patio seating areas. And I loved the decor chosen indoor and out. Check in was smooth and we checked in around 1. The pool was nice and clean and warm and I pretty much hung out there on Sunday. Two AC's in our unit. The loudness of those units and the walk-in blended shower bathroom toilet were the only downsides for us but that's more if a preference than the Cottages' fault. It is after all an accessible room so it's a plus for anyone needing that and we just opened the windows at night to get the fresh breeze rather than using the AC.

Love this place. Appreciate most how family friendly it is. Families can rent the various cottages, be able to have dinner and gather in each other's room. Rooms have kitchens, sofa bed in living room. Options available depending in your needs. Sadly, no pets allowed but love the laid back, family friendly ambiance. Staff are very friendly and responsive.

Loved our first visit so we came back. The rooms are remodeled to a more modern style and looked great. The service was also good - very responsive and kind. That being said, our room wasn't ready until 1.5 hours after check in (3pm). The pool was warmer than the hot tub - not horrible but not ideal for the brisk night we were there. Lastly, our power went out midway through cooking breakfast and we were told it would not be restored until after our check out time - which the reminded us we need to be out by because others booked the room. All in all it was an okay experience. I think I'll try a different location next time so I can compare.
