When he takes on a new project he not only focus on the architectural plans but also on the big picture from the home owner's perspective. I've worked with quite a few contractors in moving around Los Angeles, and Warren has been, by far, one of the easiest and helpful to work with! He not only knows what he's doing, but is also very caring and thoughtful throughout the process of the project which I really appreciate. Warren thoroughly enjoys what he does and it is super noticeable in the end results of his work, as they are terrific. So few reviews for a company that has been in "business" for 20 years should have been my first red flag. Imbuia, specifically its owner, Warren Bergman, took advantage of my trust and naïveté as he quickly sized me up as a young, first-time homeowner and a woman to boot. The dude cares about his bottom line and little else... on top of ripping me off, he was unprofessional, PUSHY, and immature. On a deeper level, Warren is not in alignment with his very own heart and soul. Honesty, integrity and accountability are foreign concepts to Warren. This was an extremely expensive lesson for me to learn but I now know what (and who) to avoid in the future. He left the job after 2 weeks (with my home in total disarray) after I began to pick up on the fact that he was charging 2-3 times the cost of other high end contractors and taking 20% on top. He labeled me as "mean" when I questioned why he was inserting unforeseen costs into my invoice ($1500 for a port-o-potty and $3500 for daily cleanup). A temp toilet costs $149 month and he estimated the project at 2.5 months. You do the math. For two weeks of work, he walked away with $30k for some demo, drywall and floor materials. I tried to negotiate the bill down but decided that I didn't want to go the legal route and ended up paying him to go away. There is no changing a guy like this ... but even though I don't have to deal with him anymore, it still feels yucky. Note to all future clients: don't learn the hard way like I did.

Hired Imbuia Construction for remodeling work for a rental property I bought in Tarzana. Was generally apprehensive about the costs involved and whether I was going to get honest answers from the contractor. Warren and his crew were nothing but professional. Not only did they finish the project ontime, they actually came in under the initial budget I thought I was going to have to spend. Wish all construction companies provided this kind of hassle free work.
