I have had several disappointing experiences at the deli here in our Burney safeway, all due to the management style observed there. The crew members are actually very good, but i truly feel pity for them because of the manager named Darrel. His behavior has consistently been a major concern. His approach often feels condescending and dismissive, especially towards newer employees. Phrases like "it's sink or swim around here" set a discouraging tone, and his reactions to questions—such as eye-rolling—create an environment where employees might feel hesitant to seek necessary guidance.Unfortunately, this has led to a workplace where guessing, rather than asking, becomes the norm out of fear of being belittled. This not only impacts employee morale but could potentially affect service quality. A good manager should empower and educate their team, not demean them.It's vital for leadership to treat team members with dignity and respect. If I worked there as long as he has I'd know everything he knows and would be able to do everything he does only I'd be a far better manager than he is because I would treat people like human beings with dignity and respect. Everyone deserves a work environment that promotes learning how to do the job the proper way, dignity, and mutual respect. Based on my observations, it appears that the current management style is not only damaging to the staff morale but could also be harming the deli's reputation within the community.Many people in town seem to have noticed this issue, which reflects poorly not just on the individuals involved but also on Safeway as a whole for not addressing the situation. Leaders like this do not foster the supportive, respectful culture that is crucial in any customer-facing business.I hope that this feedback will be taken seriously and that changes will be made to improve the work environment for the betterment of the employees and customers alike.
