The worst ER experience. Firstly, needing to go to ER IS TRAUMATIC enough and both their facilities and staff make your experience that much more unpleasant and scary. It took 7 hours to be fully addressed and that was after needing to be my own advocate. Staff rush by you and you need to yell after them several times (not always easy when you are in excruciating pain) in order to get any attention. Luckily i had my own water bottle and crackers with me otherwise I would have added dehydration and low blood sugar lying there on a gurney in middle of the hallway ignored. It was not even that busy. Go somewhere else. Jeremiah thanks for your response. Can you provide some actual next steps that would be taken to improve the hospitals overall LOW score?

First the upper floors, ICU and hospital are good, but the traveling nurses spend time just chatting on their phones rather than checking on patients. Now the ER needs help. They leave loved ones with high BP for 4 hours and do not give them anything. BP way dangerous level due to anxiety and not why they came in. WORST was the young light blonde ER nurse at 4 a.m. shift on Wednesdays. She is anxious, paranoid and threatens family members to call security if they don't do as she says over a simple thing like asking why mom was forgotten for an hour. Yes they left her with no care while we went to get her something to eat as they said the ER has nothing to eat or drink? She went off, "Are you blaming me...I just came on shift...I don't need this..." She should NOT be a nurse. It was shocking as we are in healthcare ourselves and retired nurses, and we would never ever treat a patient or family member like that! This gal was off her meds or psychotic. She paged for help from another nurse who had to pull her off the case and calm her down saying please forgive her. Don't you background nurses? Threatening to have a family member thrown out is sick when they did nothing but ask why she was left alone, not even hooked up to monitors as they forgot her!

The staff here is amazing, but the ER is always overflowing. Local urgent care centers, including Mills own Sutter Health Urgent Care, could help divert patients, and a mental health team could be added to screen patients who need that care so that physically injured or physically ill patients could be seen more quickly.

Worst experience ever!! I was sent to the ER on Trousdale from San Mateo Urgent Care to rule out a knee infection, which can be serious. The ER nurses I was in contact with were not friendly at all. The X-ray tech was real nice and friendly, and I have no complaint with Dr. Singh who was in charge of my care. Granted, it was a busy day, but I do not know what happened to Sutter Health, I work in the medical field and observed a lot of unprofessional behavior behind the desk. Employees chatting about vacations, etc., while very sick patients were in stress in the waiting area. I was not sick, neither was another patient who was waiting to be treated for a dog bite, but here we were stuck with some very sick people in the waiting area, couldn't they sequester us. I had Kaiser years ago and had an unexpectedly very good ER experience there for abdominal pain, made Sutter Health look ghetto. Getting back to my horrid experience with Sutter, after testing, including an x-ray, painful blood draw from a vampire, I was left on a gurney in a hallway with my husband, after an arthrocentesis by Dr. Singh, who unfortunately left as his shift was over. Finally, a decent staff member told me I would be discharged, but she was distracted and never came back. Then two other staff members gave me completely different instructions, confusing me even further. I politely asked a nurse passing by if she could send someone over to speak with me about discharge, she just said "this isn't my pod, I'm from (such and such)". I finally left, I advised the registration nurse I was leaving, she said she would note that. I never got to talk to the doctor after Dr. Singh. I left after five hours of mostly sitting around, with no one hardly acknowledging me. Now, I see my lab results on My Chart and they are startling for inflammatory markers. I have no treatment plan, no response from their staff on my labs, and felt like I had left a third world facility.

Hospitals. It's often easy to find out what is wrong... so I understand harsh reviews. They are useful & that's great because there is the ability to improve! Mills has been around for a long time- and yet it is modern, tech-savvy and the doctors and nurses work as a team. Our stay is at Christmas-time. The most heart-wrenching time to be here. However, we have been happily surprised at the willingness to find out what is REALLY wrong. We are here for a cardiac issue, that means a BP check every 2 hours... that means lights on at 2am and 4am etc, with questions and possibly consultations. The staff and Docs are great! We appreciate their diligence and thoroughness. The meals are hot, tasty and well-prepared + big variety on menu. Delivered in about 30 minutes / or preorder. The Room is super clean and comfortable. I was invited to stay with my hubby- wow, a bed was made up for me! Variety oof rooms, clearly marked with cautions like "fall hazard" marked on the door. Nurse / doctor names are marked on a white board so changes are easy to see. I am so grateful that everyone explains what they are doing, in a courteous and thoughtful way. I am confident they will figure out the issues, but while that is on-going he is resting peacefully. this is the best place for him to be, safe and calm. Thanks Mills, it's our first time here, and you are super stars.

Recently, I had surgery at Stanford Hospital. I could not believe the difference in every aspect of service at Stanford compared to my horrible experience. Being a patient at Peninsula Hospital two years ago. I urge you to try and find Dr at Stanford or anywhere but Peninsula if you are in need of hospital services Sutter health Peninsula was a very bad experience for me and I will never be a patient there again.

This is by far the worst place to go if you need immediate medical attention. If you have the option to go to a different hospital... you should.

Good level of care, but facilities need some updating. We've used this facility for years. The medical care has generally been quite good, but the facility could use a refresh. For example, this is what the seats look like in exam rooms. Fabric chairs were a poor choice to begin with and they've gotten filthy over the years. It's time to replace these with chairs that are easier to clean and disinfect. The current ones are disgusting.

If I could leave a 0 star review I would. If you are seeing Dr. Brad Angeja, don't expect a caring and reassuring doctor. I went in as a 23 year old who has been experiencing heart pain and left arm pain for over a month. It's taken a while to meet with a cardiologist, and I was finally happy I was able to get an appointment. I had hope that Dr. Angeja would be able to get to the bottom of my pains and symptoms. I woke up early to go to my appointment and had to drive 30 minutes to Burlingame all for nothing. During the appointment, all he did was cut me off. He talked down to me and would sarcastically laugh when I was explaining these symptoms that have impacted my life so much. He was not listening to me at all. He was very dismissive and seemed like he just wanted to move on to the next appointment. He didn't check anything at all. All he said was "you are a young man, it is not your heart". No tests done. He checked my heart beat like I was 2 years old. The appointment lasted like 5 minutes. This has to have been the worst doctors appointment I have ever experienced in my life. I truly feel bad for any patients that have to meet with him. I expressed my frustrations to the front desk, and the lady at the front was super sweet. She helped me schedule an appointment with a different cardiologist in November. Dr. Angeja did nothing to help reassure or figure out what I have been experiencing. He is very rude. I didn't feel cared for at all. He made me feel super uncomfortable. I had so many questions, but he kept dismissing them as if they were invalid questions. He could have been having a bad day, but to treat patients poorly who are expecting your CARE is truly unacceptable. I feel horrible for people who have to experience an appointment with him. I hope something is done after I post this review. I never write reviews, but this is truly a bad experience. I wish for no one to ever have to deal with this. I hope the Cardiology department talks to Dr. Angeja about his treatment of patients. Thankfully, I will never be seeing him again. I'd rather wait months for an appointment with a different doctor.

If you suffer from depression make sure you read this cause you will want to avoid this scenario. So I had a bad night. I was in a dark place. Granted I was surrounded by stuff i could use to hurt myself but I decided I will go to hospital and see if I can get some help. So I got in my car and drove to the emergency room and checked in. I was nothing but polite to everyone and I was left alone in places where if I was going to hurt myself I could have. (If I was I would of hurt myself already and wouldn't of chosen to go to hospital) So I am sitting in chair and guy comes up. He takes me to room. Next thing I know I am forced to strip all my clothes except underwear. All my belonging were taken from me and I was tossed into for lack of a better word a prison cell. It had a bed a window so they could perk at you and four walls and cameras on ceiling. It reeked of bleach and profanity was on the wall. Weird stains on floor that you could see at certain angles. It was disgusting. I was then ripped of all my dignity and rights as they claimed me 5150. I made no attempt to do anything. I was a prisoner when I just was seeking help to understand my darkness. For 10+ hours. There was no way to tell time. No windows, no clocks. I was treated like an animal. Most workers treated me like a criminal. I couldn't believe it. I sat in that room through the entire night. The floor had small clumps of i have no idea. Gross. The walls were dirty with writing and who knows. I sat in one place and stayed up the entire night. I paced a bit also but the floor grossed me out. There were some very nice people but overall experience was being treated like a criminal. Funny thing is most of the night there was stuff like sandwich plastic carrier and plastic water jug amongst other things I could of hurt myself with. But I didn't. A E.R. Doctor came into see me very early. She was nice and she let me have my phone and apple watch back. It really made me feel better. So Thank you to her. And I got to text my wife and get my head straight so that drama ended after about 20 -40 minutes being their. But the nurse or psych nurse something came in and treated me with Zero respect. She took my phone and watch and told me I am 5150 and a danger to them and talked to me like I was dirt. There was a very nice nurse on her shift though. But I was locked in this cell for 10+ hours. I was asked to take a piss test but I had to remove the booties they gave me after cause I had to walk in the bathroom and they reeked so I removed them. I wasn't offered to get new ones once. At least till they finally moved me. So no more pacing stuck in my little spot on bed. Problem was that my suicidal thoughts were already gone and they were just thoughts as I went for help. Just by the fact I went their instead of doing anything should of been a clue to someone. Anyway, I was taken to a better room after 10+ hours in a cell I think because my wife showed up. Gross thing was a guy was wheeled in as soon as I was wheeled out. No attempt to clean or disinfect room at all. What happened before I was in there? Anyway it was the single most horrible experience of my life and I will never go to Hospital again for help if I feel I need it. Not without being forced. Thanks for that. I trusted them before this. I was finally moved to a better room after sitting for 10+ hours but still pretty minimal. But a guard was placed at my door entire time. So still treated like an animal. Guards were super cool. One even sang to me. So bravo. Psychiatrist finally came after almost 12 hours of being captive. They wanted to keep me longer. Holy S--- Thank god she called my wife to vouch for me so I was able to leave. I didn't have a chance otherwise. I will never trust a hospital again. I chose to go and get help. What an idiot I am. I am 55 years old and I have never been so humiliated in my life. If I was suicidal I don't see how this would of helped at all. Keep that in mind. Stay safe. Get depression checked. But be ready for that experience if you go to hospita

This is more of a warning than a review. Duplicate charges for procedures done in the ER. Not only do they bill your insurance for the ER copay, but every single thing. Also, beware that some of the ER physicians they use may not be part of the hospital and therefore instead of charges considered as in-network, you will get billed for out-of-network charges. Unfortunately, they don't disclose this and you pay for it later. Definitely go to an urgent care facility if you can, otherwise, you may see a big bill. And yes, some of their healthcare techs can seem rough around the edges, but their nurses in the ER were much more friendly.

Came here to run some tests with my Dad. I had to drop him off at the front. They have a bench where he could wait. Parking is free, which was nice. The staff were super nice and accommodated my Dad nicely. They really run people through this place

I'm writing to submit a complaint and observation about my experience with a few of your hospital employees yesterday. I was waiting for an elevator's arrival and when the doors opened, three (3) female employees were standing in the elevator. Out of consideration for their possible exit, I asked if they were going up. I am both an expecting mother and I had my 2 year old daughter and elderly mother in my care so I wanted to be considerate and if they were planning on exiting and not going up, I wanted to give them space to exit the elevator. To my surprise, my courtesy question was met with complete silence and zero response from them. So I paused for a moment when there was no response and decided to walk into the elevator assuming they were not exiting. That's when one of the employees asked another employee "Why didn't you say anything?" to which she replied with an attitude, "I don't need to say anything" and they started giggling and mumbled some other words under their breath. I wasn't paying close attention because I was so shocked that they would be so rude to react and respond in such a manner. As an expecting mother with a toddler and elderly mother in hand, I was already stressed about having a smooth hospital visit and experience for the day. We came to get our flu shot and this experience absolutely did not help because they made me think that I wasn't deserving of a space on that elevator. When I came into this hospital facility and environment, I expected much more professionalism and personability from staff. When I think of a hospital setting, my first thought is the quality of care I will receive from beginning to end. During a time when there's another strain of COVID around and we Flu Season is around the corner, we arrived already a bit stressed only to leave feeling worse. Unfortunately their actions were a disgrace to their work field and environment and made me feel very unwelcome and very uncomfortable to continue coming back to this hospital. My experience at other Sutter Health facilities has been different and great and I definitely did not expect this kind of behavior from this Sutter Health location and your professional staff members. They exited on the 2nd floor, we got in the elevator at 1pm on Sept 5, 2023. I know their actions don't reflect all of Sutter's staff however please address this with them because I would hate for any other patients to deal with this type of unprofessionalism and behavior.
