My wife had a formerly beautiful sapphire ring that had gotten scratched up and dirty over the years. When we were shopping for some new jewelry, Maria at Cartier recommended Rafi when we lamented the poor shape the ring was in. So I dropped on by Rafi's place and found him quite warm and effusive. He said he could clean it up no problem, but it needed to be repaired properly by the Lab downtown. I was happy to have him manage for us. A week later he called, and I was so happy with how it turned out. I did not expect how well they did with it. And the price was so modest, I was really surprised. Most of all my wife is thrilled to have the ring back in all its glory. Thank you so much Rafi!

Awful experience. Broke the diamond on my wife's wedding ring during a routine cleaning, then denied it/blamed her and offered no recourse. Cannot recommend anyone go there unless they want a distraught wife and a year of seething anger.

Don't love long reviews and don't love one star reviews because they often feel hyperbolic but only after finally resolving a frustrating and expensive two-year saga can I bring myself to write this review. I understand that sometimes things can go wrong (no problem) how a business reacts when things don't go perfectly says a lot. Wife asked me to have her vintage engagement ring cleaned. I got a recommendation from Beverly Loan Company, where I purchased the ring in the first place many years ago (you can read my earlier 5-star review of this business to see the beginning of the story of this ring!) - to go to Fine Jewelry by Rafi. They inspected the ring with a loupe and took it into possession. It was all pretty casual (no official inspection record) as I had a high degree of trust (because of the recommendation from Beverly Loan Company) and low amount of knowledge about jewelry cleaning and repair. When I picked up the ring later that day, they said they cleaned the ring and tightened the setting. Brought the ring home and my wife immediately notices something amiss about the main diamond; it's cracked on the underside and no longer sparkles as it did. After a day of growing recognition that this was a serious issue, grief at the realization that the stone was permanently damaged, and researching what to do in this situation, I brought the ring back to Fine Jewelry by Rafi and explained the situation. They took no responsibility for the issue and instead said it was likely my wife never noticed it was cracked before the cleaning and repair. I said there was no way that was possible and even if that was the case they would have noticed it upon their inspection. They didn't have much to say at this point since they seem to have already made up their mind they were not going to admit anything. They offered to "take care of us" by recutting the stone (making it smaller) or replacing the diamond - at our cost. Because we didn't request a formal written inspection notes before the work was done, if the business refused to take responsibility there was little recourse for us so this was the end of our interaction with Fine Jewelry by Rafi and they get a 1-star review. Since the above is such a depressing story, I decided to include our final resolution. We took the ring to Sarah Leonard Jewelry who provided helpful advice. They were kind, professional and spent time with me even though we werent really buying anything. When looking for jewelry in the future this is the first place i will visit. When they inspected the ring, they saw tool marks on the setting which showed just how much force was likely placed on the stone during the adjustment. They offered to help in any way, but it seemed like there weren't really any good options, so the ring went into storage for months as my wife couldn't wear it without getting sad and angry. Fast forward a year or so and a friend who is knowledgeable in the jewelry business helped us over the course of several months replace the stone and do something creative with the damaged original. It still cost us, but thankfully the ring is again on my wife's finger, and we have another nice piece out of it as well. We were able to get to a positive resolution in the end but we were incredibly disappointed with our experience with Fine Jewelry by Rafi - which ultimately cost us thousands to rectify. The moral of the story for us (and any other people without a lot of jewelry knowledge) is to be careful who you work with and always get a written certification of inspection before giving any jeweler a piece of jewelry to work on.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The best. I had to get links off my boss' Rolex. I originally went to Rolex because I did not trust anyone else but they were not able to help so they referred me to Fine Jewelry by Rafi and I'm so glad they did. Rafi was so welcoming and helped me right away. He removed one link (my boss only wanted one) and did not charge me anything. My boss tried it on but it was still too lose. I went back to the store again the next day and he remembered me and helped out again. I did not pay for parking because I knew it was going to be fast so he told me to wait out by my car and he'll bring it out. He understood that paying for a 5 minute parking spot wasn't worth it so he accommodated to me. He is the best! So glad I went to him. This is my first time writing a review on Yelp. I never do but when I experienced this I knew I had to. Thank you Rafi!!
