I would give 0 stars if i could. I recently got a parking violation because i returned a car to the exact same location to where i picked it up. The original car i had booked had a battery issue so i was given another car which was parked in a different spot. I parked the car back exactly where i picked it up since the original booking was occupying the spot where i apparently was supposed to return it. 5 months later i get a $120 US violation charge. No warning, no email. Also, to top it off, the car was in an awful state. I'm attaching some pictures. Support is super unhelpful and won´t do anything about it. 0 stars.

My vehicle was to be in the shop for several days. A coworker suggested I try ZipCar as an alternative to booking a rental car. To my surprise, my application was rejected. After inquiring about it, I received an email with a comment "Your application was not approved for multiple reasons related to the following eligibility requirements". In checking the link there was just one item that seems to have disqualified me: Restricted licenses of any kind are not accepted. So bottom line, if you wear contacts or glasses, you are immediately ineligible to be a ZipCar customer. Seems odd that any municipality would allow a company such as ZipCar to lease out street parking when they discriminate against over 60% of the population that wears corrective lenses to drive, from having any access to their service. This review is to pay forward the time I wasted time trying to sign up with Zipcar in the first place.

Zipcar in Northridge is an absolutely horrible company. My college age daughter rented a zip car and it broke down at night on the side of the road in the middle of no where. She called the contact number for help and was told that they would send road side assistance. She waited over two hours and nobody came. They told her if she left the car she would be charged an abandonment fee. I finally stepped in and called Zipcar because her phone was about to die and I explained the situation to the customer service representative and I even spoke to the supervisor. There was no concern or urgency to help my daughter- it was after 11:00 at night and they were fine with leaving her alone on the side of the road, alone, at night. This company lacks integrity and has zero concern for their customers. After reading other reviews, it sounds like zipcar is notorious for renting cars that are in poor and unsafe condition. Don't make the same mistake we made- do not rent cars from zip car Northridge.

Zipcar is one of the most money hungry companies i have ever used. if the car is 2 mins late you will get charged $50. one time i got charged $150 in late fees because i was 2 mins late returning the car (my phone died) so in total that day i paid $198. yesterday i was 41 miles from home and my phone died, so the trip ended and when my phone turned on i called and they told me i had to pay $50 to start a new trip.....i've lost soooo much money with this company, it's very useful but the policies are so inconsiderate

I have never dealt with such a screwed up company in my entire life. I keep calling zip car and the mere act of calling causes my account to be cancelled; there is something wrong with their phone system. Now I have talked with a service rep and explained the problem, and she did not understand me. She was convinced that I wanted my account cancelled, and reassured me that she had removed my name from our account!!!!! This is nightmarish; like something out of Kafka. It is still ongoing. We have been zip car members and users for over twelve years. I can't believe this is happening.

I should have checked reviews before signing onto ZipCar. I rented a car for the day to get from SF to Santa Clara. When I went to open the app on the day of the rental it was completely crashed. I called and they said there was nothing they could do, and added 12 dollars of driving credit to my account for the "inconvenience". I ended up having to spend $200 in ubers for a last minute ride. I tried re-calling after the weekend to see if I could get some fees reimbursed (like the application fee) and they again said there is nothing they can do. So pretty much lost $50 in the process and never even got to drive the car. If they tried to fix it I wouldn't be so harsh with the review, but considering no one cared once they realized they screwed up shows me how horrible of a company they really are.

Tried to rent a car. Booked the slot. Show up, the car is not there. Call zipcar, can't get them on the phone, they say they'll call back when they can. Day ruined. Would not recommend ever.

Awful experience. Would give zero stars if I could. I reserved my car a week in advance. The car was switched twice within the week and was not present at the garage for pickup. The app was not loading. After waiting 45 minutes on hold and speaking to a manager, customer service told me there's nothing they can do and they'll give me back my money in 3 to 5 days. No credit, no acknowledgement of my lost time or money on missed appointments. Zero regard for customer experience and their "solution" was to give me back the money for the service I did not receive anyway and pretend like nothing happened. The service was terrible at every step of the way. They'll simply cancel your reservation if they feel like they can make more money from another one. Use another service if you can, they don't care about their customers at all.

This is a review for SF zipcar. But also zipcar in general. The cars are dirty, out of shape, two had tire pressure warnings, often need to switch just because of the terrible condition. On top of that, they are pretty much defrauding customers with fees. If you have a trip for $10 per hour for instance, you need to buy extra hours because if you run into traffic you either need to get on your phone while driving, which is encouraged (yes they mandate reckless driving), or pay $50 every HALF HOUR. That's right. The late fee is $50 even if you're one minute late. They were sued for these fees multiple times but they keep it up regardless. Go with a reputable rental instead.

Misleading! Zip car website says cars will be available in your neighborhood. I signed up -paid application fee, damage protection and monthly fee and service fee. After all this, I tried to rent a car. I was given a car that was a 40 min walk from my location - is that considered within my neighborhood? When I tried to cancel my membership, they only refunded the monthly plan and pocketed almost $35 saying its non refundable. Please do not use this service.

Crap service. I spent time on the phone to their call center team in MX city to highlight an error on my account. This eventually led to a driving credit issued. On searching for a new reservation weeks later the credit disappears. As I phone the same team to raise this issue I am informed it had expired. Was I informed at the time there was an expiration date? No. It was a mistake by the previous agent who did not make this clear, I am told. Given it was their mistake, this credit should be reissued. I am told this is not possible as credits can be issued once only! Zipcar has in effect given and taken away a credit in one swoop: they might as well as not given the original credit in the first place. This is underhand and I wonder if it was their intention and a tactic all along.

Avoid streetside zipcar locations, they are supposed to be "reserved" for two zipcars only but its located in the middle of a highly populated residential neighborhood and with no one to enforce the zipcars only reserved parking spots, so there was no way for us to return the zipcar at the end of our drive. When we called customer service, they said find a legal street parking spot thats available for at least 8 hours thats as near as possible to the original location. Find free street parking in SF is already challenging as it is, which is why we even chose to use zipcar in the first place, so we wont have to worry about street parking. We ended up driving around for an hour and eventually found a parking spot but the attitude we got from the CS agent and them giving us one hour driving credit for our "troubles" after complaining was not worth the uber trip back. Why does the responsibility to ensure that their zipcars dont get towed because they cant secure their own zipcar return locations fall on the customer? The CS agent also said "yeah we understand thats really unfortunate." So why operate zipcar spaces if they lack the infrastructure to keep their "reserved for zipcar" spaces? Really disappointed with the service all around.
