Bottom line: DO NOT sign up for their classes. I first signed up for an April class ~3 months in advance, making plans around it because I assumed it would happen. Less than 3 days in advance, they sent a cancellation email and offered to reschedule or sign me up for another class. I signed up for another class, again planning around it, and yet again they cancelled with less than 3 days notice.
The shop has great food-I've been going there for years when I've wanted high-quality meats. But the fact that they've wasted so much of my time and in both instances have only offered to refund the ticket (a discount, or *anything* to acknowledge the inconvenience), makes it feel like they don't care at all about me as a customer.

Top notch meat and knowledgeable service. Will definitely go back for more. SF is not known for scrapple and these guys make their own. And super delicious. Worth the trip

Beautiful butcher shop and friendly staff, but the price for pork is insane. My wife and I came in for pork loin. The butcher said he could de-bone it and trim the fat but we would be charged for the gross weight. Not a problem. He rang us up and the 3 lb. pork roast was over $100. $28/lb. for pork loin is outrageous. I can get prime ribeye for less. I was going to speak up but my wife was too embarrassed and gave me an elbow to the ribs. I like to support local businesses but I don't like to be gouged.

Excellent selection of meats and a constant rotation of delicious sandwiches. Their sausages are awesome as well, especially the pork fennel which is my favorite sausage ever. The prices are higher than other shops but you definitely get the quality that you pay for. If nothing else, go in and grab a sandwich

I don't hang out in this part of Berkeley like I used to. Now that my favorite pate place has closed, I've been coming here. It's not as good, but it works. And what they have is better than what you can find in the stores. It's nice and they've expanded. They have soaps, spices, and some storemade pickles. I asked for a bar of soap and the guy at the counter suggested told me there were samples so I took one. I'm glad I did. Beef tallow isn't very lathery and while I don't mind (I used to make homemade soaps and am aware that different oils have different lather properties). I'm glad that he made the offer. I like the old timey vibe and it's a touch more (gourmet ghetto - so not very) diverse than it used to be. The people who work there are very nice and welcoming and I appreciate that. I don't buy meat in this area, but if I had to I'd trust it. BTW, I paid for two pates and was a bit worried that I was overcharged (the piece was very small and weighed more than I thought), so I weighed the pate on my scale at home and it was perfect. No overcharging.I appreciated that.

I am reminded of the old song: there's nothing like the real thing. The food I've had here makes me salivate for a real hamburger or a real steak. If I were a vegetarian I would give a different review.

I haven’t eaten anything from here yet, but when we went to pick up our order they were very organized and had musicians playing to entertain people while they waited; very thoughtful. The staff was efficient and friendly.

Totally love this place. It is clean with a suprer friendly staff. I came in for the Liberty Duck which they butchered for me so that I could keep the head and feet seperate. They have all kinds of bones for stock and other little treats sprinkled around the store for you to find. I dond't eat a lot of meat but am a total fan girl of this place.

A great little spot recommended by a local! I was up in Oakland/Berkeley for a few days, so I was able to to try out some near little spits like this one. I was told about their sandwiches, which are premade and only having one variety for the day, where that day it was roast beef. Everything was laid out in a grab and go manner, so I grabbed a sandwich and a root beer, and made my way. Service was great and friendly! The sandwich was excellent, with some nice and soft bread. The veggies were a great complement, with plenty of peppery arugula and peppers. They gave the right amount of meat, and it I thought it was high quality! This is a very lowkey spot that I's love to return to, perhaps for their other meats!

I continue to adore this shop. Now it is employee-owned, which makes it even more valuable to me. When I go in to order my ground lamb, they cut and grind it right on the spot and I love the Acme buns to eat my fresh burgers on too! Also just recently discovered the chicken liver mousse- awesomely delectable. We don't eat a lot of meat (but my blood type requires insane amount of daily protein) so when we do, this is our spot. Oh, and, yes, pay for this- the humane practices and northern Cal ranch families benefit accordingly.

Beware! This shop charged us $26.50 per pound for a pork butt that was about 30% fat after 9 ounces of fat were trimmed off at home. When I called to complain I was told that since they did not use mainstream suppliers their cuts would vary from animal to animal. Apparently we got one fat pig. Across the street, boneless pork butt was $7.95 per pound, and a lot better looking.
