Best preschool around. I taught there and my grandson attended there! Highly recommended staff is highly trained and there's lots of love there ! I highly recommend a visit !

Step One School is such an amazing institution! We have been members of the Step One community for five years, as both our kids attended their early preschool years there. The teachers are gold. So caring and engaging and loving. They take play based learning to the next level. They really care for the little ones and create such a lovely environment for young minds to thrive in. We would wholeheartedly recommend the school to any family!

When we were planning to move from NYC to Berkeley with 2 young kids, everyone said we had to visit Step One School. We did, we fell in love with it and then our kids fell in love with it. Step One has been more than a school. It's part of our family. The place and the people are truly special and the experience has given our kids a powerful foundation from which to grow.

Step One School remains an excellent pre school. They updated and improved the buildings significantly, a project the was completed just before the pandemic. I've been on campus subbing for the past three summers and just love the energy. It is a play based school, however they have scheduled snack times, lunch times, indoor and outdoor times, and naps. The staff are a just amazing. The school provides snacks, the kids bring their lunch and water bottles. The outdoor space is large and has varied landscapes for different activities. My kids, now in college, attended 2005-2009. All of the wonderful posts are spot on, it is a special place.

Our three daughters went to Step One from 2011-2018. We had an amazing experience and are so grateful to the teachers and school for helping shape who they are as students -- and more importantly --as caring, empathetic individuals with a strong sense of self and a compassionate outlook on the world.We didn't know a lot about early childhood approaches before joining the Step One community, but after having experienced the play based curriculum for 7 years we have come to appreciate how important and impactful it is, fostering creativity, helping them navigate conflict and learn to collaborate and leaving the impression that school is a safe, fun environment where they can express themselves.We also loved the campus itself...the outdoor space is amazing, including a garden, waterfall, sand area, slide, etc.
