A few years back when my poor pet passed away I would have given this place 10 stars for being caring and compassionate. Affordable and willing to work with families.
2024- visit with my poor baby (2nd pet). The only compassionate person was the nurse staff. The new exotic doctor is only out for $$$$. You walk in and they automatically tell you $1,300...they priced multiple people here when we sat in the waiting room waiting for our pet to be triaged.
It gets worse...you go in the room thinking the doctor would have compassion NOPE because she was out for the money $$$ we were left with basically two options pay the hefty bill or kill our pet!
We felt pressured and we were in tears! Calling people trying to apply for loans!
Even suggesting to them hey let's just do the blood work at $200 but the $$$ hungry doctor wanted us to pay the $600 X-rays! We felt pressured I felt like they basically wanted the money!
We left there after being pressured on euthanasia our pet paying $605.00. This place basically made us choose to KILL our pet because of their ridiculous $$$ prices and the doctor was not willing to budge on their decision of working with us!
Avoid this place they are only out for the money. They knew deep down my pet would not make it, but to have the audacity to pry on families hearts for their beloved pets... for $1,300 and then to later euthanasia your pet at another $600. This place will rob you. My first pet I wasn't even charged this ridiculous amount.
They get you when you are in pain, hurt, crying....
This place and their new staff are heartless!
It sucks because exotic pet owners only have two places now to take their pets it's here or Santa Rosa. Each 45minutes to an hour drive!

I've had to bring my 9 pound small dog here three times for emergency situations, and one time for surgery to repair her torn CCL - Cranial Cruciate Ligament (basically like a human ACL).
Every time I've brought her in for emergency situations, the staff has responded with care and relatively quick attention.
When I brought her in for a CCL surgery consult and then the actual surgery, requiring an overnight stay, I am going to go out on a limb and guess I was as anxious about it as my dog was. In advance of the surgery, Dr. Meltzer and staff did a fantastic job explaining the surgery to me - she spent an hour with me to talk through everything. I had gotten two surgical consults elsewhere and ended up going with Dr. Meltzer for a variety of reasons. I'm really glad I did. The surgery was ten weeks ago and my dog's leg is almost good as new. I highly recommend Dr. Meltzer for small dog surgery.
The only downside to PETS is that I found them to be a bit loose with the appointment times. I typically waited 10-15 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. So perhaps go in expecting to wait a bit past your appointment time.

The staff here are very understanding, friendly and competent. Their lobby offers snacks for dogs, cats and people. Coffee is included too!
The pets here are all treated with love and care.

I am truly pleased with the PETS Referral Center in Berkeley, CA. I brought my poor 15 year old Poodle in as he was in distress. They immediately took him to the back and started working on him. The Vet was so gentle with us as she knew he was in heart failure. Unfortunately they had to euthanize him and she walked me through it every step of the way. I had him cremated and I received his remains back in one week! Everything was packaged beautifully. I was so pleased and it helped with the healing process from losing my fur baby. This is a great place to take your animal! Highly recommend.

This place has no human values, nor moral norms. Our experience for two consecutive times was horrible, o e time they made us wait for 8 hours just to tell that they are unable to see the pet, another time they made us wait for more than 10 hours to offer heavy sedation for removing a foxtail, without considering dogs age other health issues. This is very much profit driven place and they will give priority to pets who they can get milked more. The front desk is especially rude first to give you false estimate of wait time then refuse to update on where do you stand as a patient keeping you in state of unknown for 10+ hours. They fail to do the intake check in properly and just enjoy having pets and pet parents in the wait room.

Thanks to Dr. Burr and the overnight staff from last night for helping out my dog with an allergic reaction in the middle of the night. I have so much respect for all the techs, doctors, assistants and reception workers who give their time to our animals when the rest of us are sleeping. You are all heroes! There was a lot going on last night and many people had very long waits, but the staff was able to get us in an out very quickly with a shot that calmed the allergic reaction right down. They could have let me sit for hours waiting to see the doctor or waiting for discharge instructions, but since my dog needed minimal care they finished up with us quickly so we could get back home in record time, which I really appreciate. I've been to Pets Referral for emergencies, knee surgery, cancer, end of life issues and many other things for many pets over the years, and they will always be my first choice for emergency or specialty care.

Waited 6 hours to see vet then came back next day to get ultrasound since the radiologist was long gone by the time I saw vet. Now have to go thru entire process again—triage, see a different er vet then get in line for ultrasound. Here waiting 2 hours and haven’t seen vet yet. Very bad practice.

Waited 3 hours. Was fine with being last priority because we thought our cat wasn’t that sick. We are then taken into the back to tell us our cat has late stage cancer of some sort. He was suffering for hours before being looked at. Someone walked in in the middle of this horrible conversation to ask the doctor to sign something. I’m pretty sure it was Dr. Stephanie Burr and she didn’t say anything OR apologize so my mother had to inform her that that was completely unnecessary and insensitive. She kept referring to my cat as anything but his name. “kiddo” and saying “WE are very sick” No, my cat named MOOSE was very sick. After handing us an estimate of 2,000 dollars she came back in to “advise us” to pay more for a chest X-ray that we had already declined, as well as strongly suggest we should hospitalize our cat (even though she said they would only start treatment after 48 hours, which he would have likely already passed by then.) who can even afford this ? I can’t help but feel preyed on by this doctor who already knew my cat’s prognosis was “poor to grave.” there were several very kind receptionists and nurses but this was just traumatizing and frankly hilarious to see a woman this uncoordinated at a job that requires intense focus and coordination. Do better, and if you’re not sensitive enough to deliver information to families in a kind manner and closed-off environment then you should absolutely NOT become a veterinarian. A true disappointment to animal medicine and care.

I am so angry at this place I can say the most horrible things, but, will say this; there is no “compassion” in this place. It’s designed for one purpose and one only; MONEY $$$.
Staff is like robots doing the corporate job. They both feed ea other perfectly.

My oncology Dr. C.S. saved my cat from dying in a quick few weeks to living for more than 2 1/2 more years. Years my little man & I would not have enjoyed together without her and the techs tender care . Today I had to let him go They were so respectful & sweet Thanks to all who took care of my little man all this time. I am grateful.

We recently went to this place for our dog who had eaten a ton of rubber and plastic. We’ve been to multiple pet ERs and urgent cares for various reasons as we have a few pets who have been mischievous. This was by far the most impressed my family has been with an emergency care center to date. They were incredibly polite, showed genuine concern and got our dog back in about 5-10 minutes to begin treatment. Total time there was about 45 minutes including imaging. The cost estimate for imaging alone was cheaper than our own vet and we left with a happy and healthy pup! Our dog even had an accident while in the back due to stress and they cleaned him very thoroughly. We were absolutely shocked leaving with how amazing and stress free the whole experience was. Much cheaper than the Sage ER we usually go to which was 4-5 times more expensive than the quotes we got today for similar services (fluids, imaging etc). 10/10 would recommend them!

Wow! Thank you Dr. Isaacson and Lili, for helping my dog through a serious injury, and thanks to you, Leo is back to himself. I can't wait to start dropping your name like candy at a parade to all those who need care, especially emergency pet care. Your skill and kindness saved the day!

The whole staff is amazing. Attentive, calm, professional, and kind. Opthomologist Mitzi Zarfos worked a minor miracle with my dogs detached lens that was causing him terrible pain. I am so grateful to have this special service so near to home.
