1650 Martin Luther King Jr Way, Berkeley“I recently joined Strong Island Fitness LLC and I'm thoroughly impressed! From the moment I stepped into the gym, I felt welcomed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. The facility is always clean and well-maintained, which makes for a great workout environment. The variety of equipment and classes offered is a major plus. Whether you're into weightlifting, cardio, or group fitness classes, there's something here for everyone. The instructors are fantastic—they really know how to motivate you and make sure you get the most out of each session. What I appreciate the most is the sense of community. It's not just a gym; it's a place where you're encouraged by both the staff and fellow gym-goers. This supportive atmosphere makes it a lot easier to stick with your fitness goals.Overall, if you're looking for a top-notch fitness experience on Long Island, Strong Island Fitness LLC is the place to be. I highly recommend it!”

2036 Blake St, Berkeley“I was a member at Grassroots CrossFit for a year and loved everything about it. As a coach-owned gym, you can feel how much commitment and work that Kris and the coaching team (shout out to Patrick and Vini) put in to make sure every member feels welcome and gets the best out of the work out regardless of their familiarity with crossfit. The box is airy, spacious, and well equipped. And other members are really nice too! Highly recommended!”

889 Ensenada Ave, Berkeley“HH fitness is great! Xabi is a wonderful instructor who pushes you to get a great workout in every time. He's super energetic and supportive and as a result, the gym has a real community feel. Xabi offers a variety of classes (spin, weights, Bosu ball, etc.) and the exercises he leads you through change constantly such that it's never boring or predictable, which I really appreciate. I moved out of California and still make time to see Xabi and attend class whenever I'm back in town!”
“I cannot more highly recommend OKC! I have been training here with Denis Vasilev since January 2023. I joined simply with the intention of getting a good workout with kettlebells, yet almost immediately started the deeper dive into kettlebell sport. Denis is incredible to work with - knowledgeable, passionate, and motivating. His focus on technique and personalized training regimens has been incredibly helpful and appropriately challenging, especially for someone like me who was new to kettlebell sport. I've now competed a few times and love it.The atmosphere here is excellent, equipment solid, lots of camaraderie, great mix of other guys and gals, some who compete, some who do not. And bonus as it's a dog friendly locale!”
“My experience at Berkeley Muay Thai & Fitness has been great. Chris and his team do a great job at meeting clients where they are as well as maintaining a friendly/fun experience. I highly recommend this gym.”
“I like this gym but it's really small. If you go in peak hours be prepared to wait or work in with others on weights. It can get pretty crowded. Usually plenty of treadmills, though.”

1820 Solano Ave, Berkeley“Great staff, great trainers, great equipment, great location and reasonable rates for what they offer. They made me feel welcome after too long a hiatus due to the pandemic and my complicated health history. This is also a place that is comfortable for older patrons such as myself during the day. Can't say enough about them and so glad they weathered the pandemic and even upgraded some of their equipment.”
“This is the best gym in town. Memberships starting at $60/month or so and you get access to a great gym, pool, indoor basketball courts, decent locker rooms with a sauna and a steam room, plus great programming for all ages. Since I moved to Berkeley I’m at the Y at least 4 times a week!”
“I've been a member here for the last 2.5 years and it's very hard to see myself going anywhere else. The facilities are great, the sauna and showers are always nice and clean and the showers have Kiehl's products. There is usually enough workout equipment for the wait times to be pretty short. The gym has three squat racks with deadlift platforms, two flat benches, one incline bench, one decline bench, and several barbells in case the squat racks are occupied and you want to deadlift off the floor. The staff has also always been friendly and helpful. I've worked with Ian on the training staff for the last 1.5 years and seen significant strength gains (bench press 165 to 235, squat 185 to 315, deadlift 315 to 425) and a massive improvement in my body composition. The head trainer Kristi has also been a great resource for nutrition, training, and lifting technique. The only real knock on this place is they close pretty early (9:00 pm Mon-Thurs, 8:00 pm Fri, 6:00 pm Sat-Sun).”

“I joined Orangetheory Berkeley in Oct 2022 and have been a regular since. As I’m older, I wasn’t sure initially if this would be a good fit. I discovered all ages are welcome! I like the inclusive, friendly, helpful vibe from the manager Van, to the front desk staff, to the coaches. The coaches also invite us to let them know anytime if we need adjustments to any part of the workout. We are invited to both challenge and pace ourselves. While all the coaches I’ve experienced are good, my current favorite classes are coached by Jazon and Noah.”
