For the location, security and price… They have my vote… The two guys who run the place are great Yin/Yang balances… Both are very kind in the own way (one may seem a little mean, but he is just no frills by the book…) I have a storage and a mailbox for a GREAT rate… Automated billing too!

Whoever was working around 2pm on 2/2/2023 should be fired immediately.I’ve had 2 units at this place for over a year and attempted to call in today to get some really basic info, only to have whoever was working not only be unhelpful, but also incredibly rude.Newsflash buddy, customer service is part of your job.It’s one thing to be unwilling or unable to answer a simple question, but to be rude in the process is unacceptable.

What matters most is a caring, generous, and coureous staff!! I had issues with my ailing family member's storage unit at Golden Bear -- the lock was broken, and the manager repaired the door while I waited so that I could look for and retrieve some old photo albums. I wouldn't have been able to share those photos with the family without the manager's help. I am forever grateful!

I arrived today around 430pm, inquiring about getting the 4'x4' unit we had spoken of yesterday. The employee on site turned me around explaining to come back tomorrow because "he was sick," I thought that was odd, because if he was sick, I would expect him to have called out of work, especially since he would be encountering other customers throughout the day and I don't imagine he turned everyone away for the entirety of the day because of that reason. But that aside, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt because it was an hour before closing so I imagine he would have had to conduct some inspections or security checks of the storage site before leaving. But before leaving I had a quick inquiry about my lock to see if it would fit on one of the units and he copped an attitude, telling me "I should go try out any of the locks on any of the units, they're all the same dude..." when in fact the doors are not all the same (case and point my own 4.5'x6.5' has a different door than the ones across from it). I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to go buy a new lock. I understand this is all a very stressful situation given the COVID times, but honestly this was probably the worst customer service I have ever received. Luckily, this place has some of the best rates and location is great from University Village which makes up for this bad service today. And David, the manager, has been excellent.

Wow, this place has apparently been closed since prior to April 1 (due to orders from Alameda county) Not being aware of their closure, I went there in person on April 3 to pay my April rent. When I found them closed, I immediately mailed a check. Today, (April 10), I received an emailed late notice along with a $10 late fee. Also, since their office is closed (I walked by again today to verify), somebody is apparently sending out late notices to their customers without even properly verifying that their payments are actually late. I should add that I've been a customer here for over 16 years and have never been late in my rent payment. WTH? Is this how they are treating their customers during a national health emergency? I know one thing, when the shelter-in-place is over I am getting the hell out of there. I know I can get a space in a facility that is not only cleaner but better run and significantly less money. I am ONLY here for the convenience to my home.

I have been a client for many years, and am satisfied with the storage, security, accessibility, location and generally, the cost for storage. However, my partner and I are both very unhappy about a strange billing practice that recurs over the years... every now and then, Golden Bear either creates an extra invoice or fails to record a payment. Even though you pay reliably and on time, they began to send late notices and pre-lien notices, and they seem unable or unwilling to provide accounting details to prove their claim. Based on the threats to sell your stuff, you are forced to make extra additional payments, so it is not such a good deal, after all. I hope that these recurrent mistakes are honest mistakes, but I can not give a better rating until the management takes the time to correct their accounting and book keeping practices, and respond to our concerns.
