I bought 4 light fixtures from Phil. When the week they were supposed to ship and they didn't he requested a few more days. That was fine. We had ordered 2 Lincoln Slip Shade ceiling light fixtures. When I asked if he had matching sconces. He said yes but it would take a few weeks to paint highlights that matched the ceiling lights. They arrived well packed. But, the sockets on one ceiling light were the old style cardboard and the other was plastic. A couple of areas the painting was slip shod. One chain on each ceiling light was loose. Not tight like the others but limp. One each on both the ceiling fixtures. The sconces were a bigger mess. They were either dirty or rusty in the corners. Some areas appeared to be painted or need another coating. Some ares might have been skipped. I thought I was buying these thru Etsy but they have no record. I think they became a "private sale". Phil no longer answers my emails since I sent photos & explained what was wrong with the fixtures. I expected the fixtures to be perfect-clean, expertly painted and old parts replaced with new ones, Do NOT buy from this man/shop. Expensive lesson.

I sold Mr. Waen an antique ceiling fixture from my home. I am sorry to say that the check Mr. Waen wrote me was returned by my bank (they couldn't find the account). This was well before the pandemic hit and I'm sorry that his business now appear to be closed. But Mr. Waen would never return my calls or letters requesting a new check, even when sent certified mail. I would not do business with this man. He can't be trusted.

Phil is great. We have a 1930's house and he helped us find four matching sconces for our living room and some period pieces for our kitchen remodel. He's great in following up, and customizing pieces for our specific needs. If he doesn't have something, he can look out for it across the country and get one if it becomes available.

I met Phil during my first visit to the Alameda Antiques Fair. At that point, I had already decided that I wanted to replace the light fixtures after recently moving into a new apartment in San Francisco. Given the building was built in 1911, I wanted to use antique hardware to bring that original era into my space. Plus I have such an appreciation for antique hardware in general in its quality, unique character, and sense of days past. I was impressed with Phil's passion and expertise in his work, plus I knew the fixture he had would work well in my apartment, so I bought an antiqued brass finish fixture that day from him. I was curious to see more, so he invited me to come by the studio in Berkeley sometime. Which I believe I did the very next weekend. After a couple visits, I ended up with four additional antique fixtures which have all since been installed, I absolutely love, and look amazing in my home. I highly recommend Phil who was able to help me determine the right pieces for the areas I needed and of course was able to adjust each one to size as necessary. Thanks Phil!

I saw a listing on craigslist and stopped by. I was surprised to find a fantastic hidden gem. This little shop has excellent victorian, deco, antique light fixtures for all uses. Phil is extremely knowledgeable and talked me through various shade options and suggested great ideas for entry and bathroom fixtures in my older craftsman home. I am really happy with the lights I bought.

We've worked with Phil at his lighting studio a few times over the past year and have received excellent service and knowledgable advice regarding selecting, refurbishing, and understanding the history of the light fixtures we've chosen. So far, he's helped us select three vintage hanging fixtures - a beautiful Italian piece for our master bedroom, an incredible mid-century modern piece (Moe Lighting Honeycomb chandelier) full of color and texture for our son's bedroom, and two beautifully refurbished Holophane industrial lights to match our kitchen design. He also has been on the look out for two art deco pieces for us in the future for our living room, and has rewired another piece for a back nook in our home. His expertise has helped us transform our home lighting situation from boring to striking, and guests have been delighted with each piece. We love working with Phil and look forward to future collaborations - he knows his stuff!

Bought several lamps from this shop and they were all burnt out. When I asked for my money back I was told (and the quotes are here for a reason): "Well that's your problem!" To say this business owner is rude would be an understatement. Avoid this shop at all costs!!!
