This gym is subpar at best. The machines are super old and lack variety. They are also placed super close together so that if one person is on a machine you will almost hit them when walking by.While the cost of membership is low, anytime of day you visit will be busy. If you enjoy using machines/free weights be prepared for lots of high schoolers and towels being scattered across a bunch of different machines for the people who are “reserving” them for later in their workout.Unfortunately this is one of the only gyms in Benicia and they maximize on knowing this is people’s only option.

Love the hometown vibe and catching up with my community! Michael is always positive at 5 AM even when I want to be sleeping! Kyle is a great kid and nice to hear about how his life! The gym is fully equipped and has a bit of everything for all styles. Love the Yoga classes and those especially with Karen, Claudia and Kay!

I didn't realize about getting fit until I got old and started experiencing aches and pains. Coming to Benicia Health & Fitness made me think about how important lifestyle change is.

This gym is perfect if you wanna workout. I don't go to the gym to talk to people and be greeted at the door to make me feel better about myself. After reading some of the other reviews, I realize that some people go to the gym just for the sake of going and expect way too much. Prob the same people that have to post on social media every time they go so that people can say "good job Nancy... your such an inspiration". Idiots. And If you don't like the music, wear headphones. This gym is perfect if your in the area with plenty of weights, many different rooms, punching bags, cardio equipment, etc. And it's never so packed that you can't get your sets in. Overall, it's perfect for getting the gains.

Irresponsible lack of COVID precautions. As of January 2022 no requirement or enforcement of state and local mask mandate. Vast majority of members unmasked. Specific posted instructions as of mid January 2022 state, " We will not be the Mask Police. Do not come to the front desk to report someone for not wearing a mask." Tell that to the doctors and nurses at the hospital. Or the babies and cancer patients in the community that can't be vaccinated, or can and are still at high risk if they contract COVID. There are bad consequences for college students and workers who test positive even if they have no symptoms, and yet this gym is filled with ignorant, selfish, and irresponsible anti-maskers who couldn't care less. Shockingly, many of them are obese or elderly, and should be more worried about getting COVID. This gym has no other safety measures in place. The management continues to disrespectfully ignore the needs of PAYING members who would like to keep themselves and others safe, and who have current mandates on their side. I guess they don't realize that keeping down the spread is in their best business interest. I realize that anyone, myself included, is free to quit and work out elsewhere, but some of us do not have the luxury of having the time or resources to drive 10+ miles away, or over a bridge, for a fitness center. Very frustrating. Beware before joining- this place is risky!

BEWARE their horrible membership cancellation policy! I was told by one of the workers today at the front desk that in order to cancel my membership, I need to give a 30-day notice, pay for that month and then pay for another 30 days after that! I guess that they're trying to recoup some of their costs after staying closed for a year during covid. They should feel lucky that people rejoined their gym after they were closed for a year during covid, but it's obvious to me that the owners are just GREEDY and couldn't care less about their members. On the plus side, they do have a nice weight room that is well-stocked and clean. I was able to get decent workouts there, but overall I found it lackluster and not inspiring in the least. It is a neighborhood gym with a cast of very small-town, slightly redneck clientele. Even the help behind the desk always made me feel weird when I walked in, and they always acted slightly rude to me. What irritated me was the DEATH METAL they always played in the weight room when I worked out there in the evenings. I politely asked more than once if they could please change the music to something a little more neutral, and the kids behind the desk seemed worried asking the owner (Barbara?) if they could change the music. She refused to let them change the station because she knows one of the guys who works out in there and lets him choose the music. Yep, that's just like the whole small inbred town of Benicia - it's all who you know and screw any outsider who wasn't born and raised there. That's the final straw for me. Between her sour face glaring at me like I'm "trouble" and their sh*tty cancellation policy, I will definitely be voting with my feet this year! If you want a REAL weights gym, do yourself a favor and go to Olympic Gym in Vallejo.

I agree with previous reviews. Management and customer service is non existent. When you want to cancel you're told to email Michael. He doesn't respond. I've left voicemails and numerous emails to him directly and to the customer service email address listed on their website. No responses. No credit or refunds due to their latency. Money hungry owners. At $200 enrollment fee you would think they'd care a little more about their patrons.

I love this place. Its massive with different rooms for everything - cardio, weights, rowing, TRX, yoga, boxing, etc. My favorite are the weights arranged like Curves where you can get a full body workout just by doing each one. As a newbie to lifting weights, it makes it easy for me. Sure, this place is not new and shiny, but that's actually what I like about it. It's not crowded and I never wait for an elliptical/treadmill or weights. There's no "nightclub" type of vibe you sometimes get at these newer places where it feels like everyone is judging you. Just a clean, decent place where everything works and you can work up a sweat in peace. Haven't tried the classes yet, I find the owners to be very nice and the price reasonable. No complaints. I hope these small business owners make it.

I have some constructive criticism for BHFC. I have not been a member long, but I hope to be. Benicia is my home and we need a good gym of this size. For the price I pay, I would expect nicer equipment. I understand it's expensive--maybe one day. For now, I think there would be major ROI on fixing the smells. For some reason, the entire facility smells unpleasant. The air is musty, and in some parts of the facility (men's locker room and bathroom) it's rancid. Not sure if it's the paint, the floors, the ceiling tiles, lack of airflow, lack of cleaning, or all of that. Either way, please do something. It's also hot. I've been a member at Fitness 19, City Sports Club, 24 Hour, and Equinox over the years. This is is the hottest gym I've ever worked out in. Maybe 78 degrees in most areas and feels like it's over 80 in the weight room. Lack of central AC may contribute to the smells. This place is generally just run down and I'm sure we would all appreciate some updating and improvements. I give this place 5 stars because I would never want to hurt a business and especially because I want them to thrive and reinvest the money back into the business. Please support BHFC and help them improve.

Very disappointing! Horrible management! Very unprofessional! I would not recommend this gym to anyone. My wife and I had the worst experience here. We have never been treated in such a disrespectful way and we were long time members. There are plenty of other gyms in Benicia, don't even consider this one.
