In 1986 I went in to Mike's father, Gunter, with a car that I had been giving expensive yearly tune-ups. When I came to pick it up Gunter said, "You didn't need a tune up. The #8 spark plug [socket?] is drilled wrong. I just changed that plug." Instead of all 8! And it was like that year after year. He never did work that wasn't needed. When I was told to get a new car Gunter shook his head kept that old car running smoothly for another 60,000 miles, to 140,000. Gunter retired about fifteen years ago, and Mike took over, trained by him, knowing everything Gunter knew and with the same honesty and work ethic. I'm donating a beloved Toyota Camry this week to SPCA that Mike got up to 211,496 miles-- would have run forever, but Mike said no, the transmission change is too expensive. Thanks for the honesty again. My red 1992 Chrysler le Baron convertible runs great, and looks like Miami Vice. I get offers on it every few months. There's always a fantastic 1930s car or motorcycle sitting around the place that Mike is refurbishing. If you've just bought a classic car, Mike is the man. Mike is caring for our Lexus 460, Pontiac Solstice, and Porsche Cayenne and I trust they'll last as long as the Camry did. Like all the other posters, I cannot recommend Mike highly enough.

When we trust a mechanic to work on our cars we are literally trusting him/her with our lives: that's why Mike @ Gunther's is so important to me. I'm an elderly single woman who drives a 24 year old sports coupe that I bought, new, in 1993. Mike (& his father, Gunther) are only the 2nd shop to maintain my car (first shop closed) - and Mike has been keeping it in almost-new-running condition since his Dad retired, about 10 years ago. Mike takes pride in his work, treats customers like friends and clearly has ethical standards as high as his abilities. I admit, practically all I know about my car is its color, so Mike could easily take advantage of my ignorance. He doesn't condescend, he listens to my amateurish descriptions of my concerns (he says I know my car best) & I am absolutely convinced he doesn't ever overcharge me. He takes the time to explain exactly what he thinks needs doing immediately, what it will cost, & what can wait, if that's my choice. And as an example, a recent scheduled maintenance check showed almost no immediate work needed, so his total bill was an amazing $160.00! I've raved about Mike to all my neighbors, hoping to do them a huge favor. I am completely comfortable trusting him with my beloved Integra - & thereby, with my life. Jo T., San Mateo

Mike who took over for his Father is just simply put a GREAT mechanic. He has always did a great job repairing mine and my wife's vehicles. My 98 Saturn is not an easy car to fine parts for, but he goes above and beyond for you.
