Absolutely loved our sandwiches! The place looks a bit rough around the edges... BUT! The Ruben and the SW turkey was really really good and huge... on a different note the staff were very pleasant and I watched the guy making our sandwich wash his hands about 7times in a 45min sitting... very clean.

Nice workers. Their salami melts is so good, not a fan of pickles but I like the taste of it in their sandwich.

Friendly .staff and all kinds of stuff that you might have forgotten to bring. We've been in the area for about a year now and I just discovered this place inside the village. I have no doubt that I will be back many times.

I got married on 9/28/19 at Bear Valley Lodge and honestly could not be more happy with our choice of the venue. My husband and I cannot gush enough about our experience and feel that anyone looking for a mountain wedding in California should seriously consider this venue. We had about 120 guests, but the lodge can fit about 150. They do their own food and alcohol, which at first I was disappointed about, but it made logistics so much easier and the buffet was really good. The staff are incredibly friendly and easy to work with. So responsive. I live in Texas and had to plan remotely, but having Sarah and Mariah, the onsite coordinators, made it all possible. The wedding site at the top of the mountain at the Ski Resort is absolutely breathtaking. Our guests are still talking about it. The lodge where the reception is held is cute and rustic- with plenty of space to dance. Guests stay on site which makes the whole weekend all that much more special because there is so much more opportunity for your guests to mingle and for you to see them more than 5 minutes at the actual wedding. Compared to other California forrest sites, it was actually really affordable as well. For our dinner, alcohol, appetizers and the actual venue including staff and rentals, we paid about $14,000. You could have course spend more or less depending on your preferences, but we felt like we got a great deal.

Brides, run the other direction. FAST. You can find other venues that have beautiful views without having to go through the headaches of working with the wedding staff here. To sum up just a few things that happened for me: From the start the wedding coordinator would go weeks without responding to us. Even after emails, calls and voicemails. This was a destination wedding so I flew in from Nashville to view the venue after I had already signed the contract (big mistake). I had emailed the wedding coordinator and confirmed multiple times, and then when I flew to San Francisco and drove the 4 hours to the lodge we stood outside for 30 minutes knocking and the doors were locked. Apparently it was closed for the week... I was horrified. Thank goodness Arlene (the amazing lodge manager) finally answered the door and at least got us a room for the night so we didn't have to drive 4 hours back. We spoke with the General Manager who was incredibly apologetic and introduced us to a new wedding coordinator and told us he couldn't believe this happened and he would make it up to us. Shortly after, we could not get ahold of our new coordinator for weeks, called to speak with the GM again, and learned that he was no longer there. Just our luck. The new GM stepped in and apologized for the lack or responses (this was now weeks before the wedding and we didnt even have a final proposal). When we finally received the proposal (one week before the wedding) many of the prices had increased (rentals, food, and drinks) since we had seen the original price list when we first booked the venue. After so much back and forth Bear Valley honored the rental and food prices, but refused to keep the drink prices that we originally agreed to. The GM also said that he would reimburse our flight to CA, but could not do anything else to make up for the experience we had had thus far. We then found out that the first coordinator, who was unresponsive, had us fly out to a closed lodge, and we had to escalate her, was going to be our day-of coordinator (how uncomfortable). We scheduled a walk through with the coordinator for the night before our wedding so we could discuss day-of decor. We had never met her in person or been able to explain our vision to her in person. 2 hours before the meeting I received a call that she would not be able to make it. At this point it was less than 24 hours before my wedding and my entire experience so far had been unbelievably stressful. I decided to let it go and pray that things were ok the next day. We also found out on Friday that the wedding site had moved and was now right in the middle of a row of camping tents. No one told us they were moving it. All of the pictures of me walking to the aisle with my dad have a nice green porta-potty in them, and a row of camping tents. Very classy. Thank goodness the day of went smoothly, for the most part (aside from a rude bartender that dozens of guests complained to me about). When we received the final bill we asked to speak with the manager about the gratuity. We had been charged sales tax, a service tax, and a service charge on our ENTIRE BILL. There should not be a labor fee, sales tax, service tax, and a service fee on every single thing (chairs, alcohol, linens, glasses etc). For alcohol why would we be charged sales tax, service tax, and a service fee for both the alcohol AND the bartender? We paid for a bartender so why is there a service fee and a service tax on the alcohol AND on the bartender? When we finally got ahold of the GM, this also took days, we told him we were happy to pay the bill, aside from half of the Gratuity (Service Fee). Technically the wedding day itself went well, but the service was absolutely atrocious and I never ever would have chosen this venue had I known the nightmare it would have been. We wanted to pay 10% gratuity instead of 20% given our experience. The GM then told us that since our day went well we needed to pay the extra 20% on the whole bill and that we were "penny pinchers" for not wanting to

Stayed at lodge June 14-16 for wedding. The wedding venue with mountains in background was awesome. The Lodge was somewhat of a disappointment. It is over 50 years old and showing it age. No hot water for 2 days , did get 20% discount for inconvenience and use of condominium to shower prior to wedding for all guess. Swimming pool was green and fence around pool was on the ground. There was a leaking pipe that was flooding hallway and rock climbing school. Beds weren't comfortable. The lodge had a funny old age smell to it. There was no air conditioning and the 80 degree weather made room hot as only one window opens for fresh air. Place is in disrepair and needs and a major renovation to bring it back to a resort. The bright side was Smokin' Barrel Cafe, excellent food, and the Sky High Pizza & Pub, outstanding pizza. If you are looking for a place to rough it then this will work for you.

So the general store is also the post office. Be prepared to not get your mail. The grump behind the counter will just say you haven't gotten any packages because he doesn't want to look for it.

OMG I went to the best wedding there this weekend! The venue seemed odd as we pulled up to the celebration, but once seated, all you see is the crazy amazing view of an alpine valley with snow-capped peaks - an amazing backdrop for the bride and groom. Cocktails back at the lodge on the back deck were great. I met some great folks and it was very chill. Dinner in the main hall was delicious. The hall was decorated with col light fixtures and the soaring ceiling was awesome. We were ushered back to the deck for cake while the friendly staff cleared the tables for dancing and Karaoke. We danced our butts off until midnight or so. Pizza arrived as a late night snack. Then to the bar for the afterparty with pool. I had so much fun and it was such a gorgeous venue.
