The Rocking Horse in Arcata, CA is a gem, and the employees very helpful! They are always getting new items in that the little ones will love! We make sure to visit the store every time we are in town.

Mislead about the return policy.I specifically asked the clerk about returning the tap shoes I had bought as a surprise for my daughter prior to purchase in case they didn't fit.Surprise surprise they didn't fit and when I came back days later I was told I could only get store credit as a refund by a different person at the counter.I mentioned to the new person at the register that I had specifically asked about the return policy prior to purchase and was never told that returns were store credit only.I was then told, "well, our return policy is on our receipt, and also on this sign." as she moves some paperwork covering a small sticker on the counter.

The Rocking Horse is a beautiful boutique for children and adults alike. They carry many local products with sustainability and environmentally conscious ideas in mind. Mary, the owner, and her staff are warm, welcoming, and knowledgable. A class act and staple in our community!

My nephew took me to Jacob’s. A tiny mall type building with different stores. Mary, owner of The Rocking Horse, Greeted us with a welcoming grin. Kind words. Showed us how to play Where’s Waldo when my nephew mentioned trying. A game hosted by local businesses.The environment is very child friendly. My nephew was allowed to try gadgets and look around with curiosity. As a retired educator noticed many opportunities for fun purchases. Puzzles to learning games are available. Clothing, baby mom gear, more.What was especially cool is a previous patron who moved away was visiting with her grown daughter. Mary was jubilant to greet and chat with a family who stopped by from when she first bought the store.Child’s paradise for imaginative play things to do. Gift ideas for friends.

Still not thrilled with the way the owner handled this. She could have called me since she really screwed up. She clearly doesn't have any courage and left her poor (new!) employee to deal with her irresponsible behavior. It's pretty disappointing. I really hope my nephew's gift shows up eventually. I'm sad it won't be there anywhere near his first birthday.

Wonderful local store! I live out of town and always stop in when I visit my family. There is always something new and the inventory is extensive for a small space. I find toys there that I haven't seen anywhere else and it's great to be introduced to new companies with toys we love. During Covid I felt safe shopping there with my young kids too.
