I normally don't do Yelp reviews (good or bad), but let me tell you something: in my 28 years on this earth, Joey hands down has been one of the BEST influences in my life!!!! I started working out with him last year, and while I wasn't in terrible shape to begin with, in just a few months I noticed REAL changes. Not only did other people start giving me positive, unsolicited feedback ("Hey Brian you look great! When did you start working out?") but more importantly within MYSELF I felt more positive about my health & fitness than anytime beforehand. Joey's workouts are attainable for anyone no matter their age or fitness goals. Plus, the folks I got to work out with in the gym all had great attitudes & totally non-judgmental. I'm currently living out of state, so right now I really miss Joey & all the other guys I got to know & admire. But if/when I ever am back in LA, I'll make it a point to come back to Joey. Make no mistake, he is your go-to guy!!!!

Working out with Joey has been a LIFE-CHANGING experience to me! Joey is FUN, PATIENT, DETAIL-ORIENTED and most importantly, he genuinely cares about helping me achieve my fitness goals. I am a working mom with a toddler boy. After a day of juggling between child care and work, exercising was the last thing I wanted to do. I was tired, unmotivated and depressed by my postpartum body. Through a good friend's strong recommendation, I started working with Joey 6 months ago, and that was the best decision I've made in 2022! Here is why: 1. Joey's 1:1 fitness sessions are tailored to each client. I look forward to going to his gym every week because Joey never repeats himself. He is like a magician who assembles various workout exercises and makes them fun and challenging.2. His women's group sessions are full of positive energy. We support each other through tough cardio workouts. Many of Joey's clients became friends after working out at his gym. 3. Joey always makes sure I know the science behind each workout exercise so that not only I know how to do it correctly but also which muscle group(s) he wants me to focus on. 4. Joey knows exactly when to encourage me to challenge myself and when to let me take a break. 5. Joey is super approachable and he has a great sense of humor! Feeling good about myself and motivated to challenge myself to another level, I have already joined Joey's Fitness Challenge in January. I have been training with Joey 4 times a week in both morning group classes and private sessions for over a year. As you can see from the before and after picture, my body has completely transformed. Not only that, I'm feeling happier and more energetic everyday.I found Joey two years after I gave birth to my second baby. Different from my first postpartum experience, the journey of losing weight the second time was a lot harder than the first time. I guess aging started to take a toll on my body, too. Intending to quickly get in shape, I first resorted to what I was familiar with - dieting, intermittent fasting, moderate exercise (mainly cardo such as jogging and swimming), but I just didn't see my body change much. Around that time, I started doing research and gradually came to conclusion that I probably needed strength training to build muscles, so I can develop a faster metabolism that will benefit me in the long run.I interviewed a few trainers and finally settled with Joey. One year later, I can confidently say I'm in the best shape of my life and I have only Joey to thank for. Here are a few things that really set Joey Speakes Fitness apart from others. First, Joey's integrated approach is sensible, balanced and conducive to his client's long-term health goal. He doesn't sell you a quick fast-loss scheme that's either unrealistic or comes at the expense of your long term goal. He's there to build you as a person from the get go. From the very first session, Joey has emphasized on building a sustainable lifestyle so not only can I lose fat efficiently but also maintain my progress. He has been advising me on the exact calorie intake and macro nutrients percentage.He also emphasizes on a balanced diet which includes healthy carbs and healthy fat. I used to try to cut sugar completely out of my diet and I was MISERABLE. Now I'm eating healthy and also eating what I actually like to eat, never feeling deprived.Though his gentle approach focuses on the big picture and long-term benefits, it still has delivered great results. So far, I've dropped all my baby weight and have become leaner and toner than ever. Also, I've started to develop a curve on my body. I always think I have a cute face but my body is just a typical Asian girl's body, square and straight, with lots of skinny fat, but I guess I was wrong. I could actually have some attractive curves, too. :)Second, Joey actually pays attention to you and gives really clever cues.You may think, duh! Of course a trainer pays attention to his clients. Let me tell you! No no. That's not true at all. At my previous gym, you often see trainers check their phones or pretending watching their client's moves while their mind is somewhere else. Joey is different. He actually cares. He watches your every move closely and makes sure the correct muscle groups are being engaged. He notices when your knees go inward instead of pushing outward. He corrects your back shoulder curve when it's flat. He often asks me "where are you feeling it?" If my answers show that I'm not engaging the right muscles, he would stop me, having me try something different on the spot until I feel the right muscles and then go back to the original exercises. Also, his direction cues are on point. For example, he would ask me to push the soles of my feet down firmly to feel my hamstrings. I think his clear explanations derive from decades of experience in the fitness and sports field. It really shows in the gym. Last but not least, Joey makes working out extremely fun.Training with Joey is like opening a box of chocolate. You never know what kind of exercises you'll get for that day. He mixes cardio with weight training, boxing with jump ropes, disciplines and encouragement.For his group classes, you see sweat, but you also hear laughter, lots of it. I've been working out with Joey 1:1, 3 times each per week as my trainer in his gym for the past year. His gym is perfectly equipped, clean, and orderly. He is reliable, focused, and fun with great attention to detail. I've been able to achieve many of my goals through his careful guidance. He also respects that Covid precautions are important to me. Spending this time with him is a highlight of every week!

BEST TRAINER IN ARCADIA!!I don't live in Arcadia but I workout with Joey through Zoom. When I can, I travel to Arcadia to train with him in person even though I live an hour away. Joey has helped me and my daughter stayed focus, motivated and is helping us reach our fitness goals. He is always available to answer any questions I have. I'm so glad he is my trainer.

I started going to Joey a few years back at the recommendation of a friend. I wasn't very vested in my health or fitness but felt like I needed a place that would give me the opportunity to figure that out. Joey was fantastic with supporting as much or as little effort that I was willing to put in. He was patient while I found my drive for fitness, and once I was ready he made fitness fun and exciting. I learned new skills, like boxing (which if you haven't boxed before a trip to his gym is worth it for that alone) and got in the best shape of my life. He taught me how to find a balance between eating right and eating fun. Whether you're looking for a place to tone up and keep in shape, she'd serious pounds, or just have fun and meet cool people JSF is the place for you. He is so passionate about helping people meet their goals you can't help but get excited too. I could not imagine a better decision I could have made regarding my health, fitness, and overall happiness.

I've been working with Joey for a little over two years now and I have never been happier with the coaching I have received. He is always available to answer any questions and always loves to have discussions about workout routines, nutrition, or even life. While receiving Joey's coaching I have lost 50 lbs in the last year and am feeling stronger and healthier everyday.

Joey has a way of talking to you that makes you feel like you can do anything, even while he's kicking your butt with a solid workout regimen. His easy-going, positive attitude is a refreshing change in the personal fitness space. That being said, don't be fooled. He'll work you hard and will work hard for you. He won't stop at the workout plans either. He'll provide you with detailed meal plans tailored just for you. The individual attention he gives is truly impressive. I highly recommend him if you want to get in better shape and feel good doing it.

When I started at Joey Speakes Fitness I was looking for a trainer that could help me lose weight and build muscle. He helped guide me with my meal plans and within 4 months I was down 20lbs and have kept it off since. It’s been almost 2 years!

I have known Joey for over 20 years now. He has always kept himself in peek shape. Always looks like he could roll out of bed and play at a high and professional level. One of the several things that makes it a great to work with him, is that he can make it so that even the most novice person can feel comfortable starting out, and then slowly increase your levels. Despite the fact he has already achieved the most advanced levels personally, he makes you feel as if he can help you achieve your maximum level possible. Most other trainers I have tried before I met him, cannot or will not do that for you and that can be very discouraging. The pace he uses is tailor made to your start up level, and increased accordingly, so it keeps you wanting to do more. Another plus, is his easy going personality. He can push you to do what needs to be done, and in between he gives very valuable advice, regarding technique that makes your workout enjoyable and allows you to understand what the importance is to why you are doing that exercise at that given time. Another awesome thing is, you can do it all at his gym, Cardio, strength training, and everything in between. His expertise is in aspects puts him head and shoulders above the rest/competition, and cannot be rivaled by any other in today's market. His gym is cleanest establishment I have ever been in. That includes all of those commercial gyms too. I highly recommend you first stop and talk with him before you consider signing up with a gym or trainer. If you are already affiliated with an organization, I still recommend you talk with him, because even after getting to know him briefly, you will want to switch over. I personally know several that have done so already, and they told me, they will never switch back. It is that serious. He is that serious and committed to his clients. He is the real deal. Try it, I promise you will not regret it. Simply put, none of us have money or time to waste in our lives. With Joey Speakes Fitness, you feel satisfied you get the most value for both.
